kyle pulls out his phone and stares at a list of pokemon he's going to capture. it's easy to single out the ones he needs from the ones that he doesn't simply because he already has two out of six in his pc somewhere, though if he gets too lazy to use up all four captures, he knows which pokemon to cut from the list.

"you ready?" he asks his mightyena, who barks back in approval. "then let's go."

he steps out of the building that acted as the entrance to an open area for the safari zone. sunlight blinds his eyes at first, reminding him why he doesn't want to go outside too early.

the first thing he sees after being unblinded is a ponyta chewing on the plains by the entrance of the safari zone.

the convenience of the pokemon's location alongside it being on the list makes kyle hopeful that today's just going to be a quick trip. finding a pokemon with a unique ability, pastel veil, right off the bat is just something that makes the process faster.

"crunch"

the mightyena quickly swoops in faster than the ponyta can run away. it shudders though, having an anticipation that it'll get mauled earlier. unfortunately, its reflexes weren't as fast as its reactions.

"don't let it run away from us."

kyle throws a pokeball at it while his mightyena keeps it from running away.

after the ponyta gets absorbed into the pokeball, the mightyena fetches it and brings it back to kyle like the good dog that he is. as soon as he arrives, its head whips to a direction.

kyle follows its stare and finds a hatenna. he heaves a sigh, disappointed that they weren't going to have a streak of running into pokemon in his wishlist.

"just ignore it," he tells his pokemon.

and they ignored it.

kyle looks upon the sky to take a rough estimate of the time since it took them a while to find the next thing in the safari. he sees a rare twinkle in the middle of the day. "make a wish," he tells his mightyena absently before it registers.

he chases after it to where it crashed. its shields were down, revealing only a brightly colored core that has next to no defenses. kyle is quick to ready a pokeball to catch it before it runs away.

"thunder fang."

the mightyena lunges at the minior as it struggles to bring itself away from the earth it crashed into. with one of the least used moves the mightyena had, it finally is able to use it on the wild pokemon, electrocuting it with the bite.

kyle ends its suffering with a pokeball.

he sees a happiny and then turns away without sparing it another second.

he supposed a lull once in a while is very consistent with his luck. there was no way he'd get all four that he wants straight away without hitting any snags along the way.

kyle takes the pokeball that he caught the previous wild pokemon in and starts walking to a direction.

he thinks he sees another one of them, but then realizes that all he saw was a hue of pink. there's too many small, pink pokemon in the safari zone that he had to double take.

"wait, i need you."

he whistles for his mightyena, who had gone ahead to look for something to bite on, and then brings its attention to the shellos. his ears perk up before he rushes at it with thunder fangs ready.

he jumps on the water-type, teeth clinging on it firmly. it shakes the target to unconsciousness before kyle whistles once again for his pokemon to stop.

a pokeball to capture it follows.

finally, they appear.

"bird."

kyle isn't the only one eager to see the bird. the mightyena quickly shifts its target from the pokeball that contained the shellos they just captured to the oricorio that appeared before them.

"crunch!"

it tries to fly away, but the bird was too fat to quickly allow it to escape the sprinting canine. the mightyena launches itself at the oricorio and bowls itself at it, causing it to drop back to the ground. its teeth sinks into its shoulders while its legs pin it by its wings.

it has zero chances of escape now.

kyle throws a pokeball at it to capture it to finally end his safari zone trip.
