There were a great many things Captain Skyler Dross was very good at, especially when it came to the ocean.

Give her a boat and she'll make sure to sail to you safe waters. Ask her to explore underwater caves and she'll return bearing treasures (or at least a very pretty shell for you to remember her by). Stomp on her toes and have the pleasure of being kicked overboard by a lady captain - and mocked for it too.

One thing our dearest captain was not very good at - was fishing.

This wasn't the first or the second time she'd tried her hands at it. Friendly sailors and fishermen alike had invited her for a reasonable amount of fishing trips; which usually ended up in one of two ways: either Skyler refused and went about her day, or she accepted and inevitably grew bored out of her mind.

The last time Skyler had gone on one of these fishing trips she'd amused herself by challenging everyone aboard to a game of chance, which had somehow resulted in poor Charles losing his pants, one overturned table and a drunken enactment of Moby Dick featuring a small fishing vessel and her Wailord.

Regardless, Captain Dross was far too restless to attempt fishing. It was, she'd long since decided, dreadfully boring and not worth wasting her time. In her humble opinion, it was much easier (and fun!) to just... chase the fish. And you got a decent workout out of it!

She'd brought a fishing rod with her, but she'd long forgotten about it, deciding instead to grab an ice cream from a close-by beach stall and spend her time exploring the nearby coastline.

She hadn't expected her short stop in Slateport beach to be spent running after an ice cream thief, but that just went to show you that sometimes it was just easier to embrace the chaos. Thankfully, Captain Dross was in possession of well-trained muscles that enabled her to give chase, parkouring off of nearby boulders like she belonged in a 007 movie - all the while keeping the giggling thief in her sights.

It didn't help that the Kirlia knew Teleport. As far as Skyler was aware, it could've Teleported itself as far away as it wished, leaving the captain behind. But whenever it flickered from place to place, it always made sure to reappear somewhere Skyler could see.

It was, Skyler realized an embarrassingly quarter of an hour later, toying with her. Which only made the captain grit her teeth and press on, disregarding the burning in her muscles as she jumped over a large crevice set into the ground - and fell short.

Before the captain could hit the hungry waves lapping at the seashore beneath her, a force stopped her momentum. Looking up at a pair of burning red eyes glinting with amusement, Skyler couldn't help the grin that curled her lips.

"Are you going to help me up or what?"

The Kirlia did, eventually, help Skyler up. And although they didn't resume their chase, the captain let the Psychic type keep the ice cream, and even bought her a second one just before they returned to the ship. Together.
