It wasn't that Cray had never traveled before. He had traveled loads in high school and some after he had settled into his former job. But traveling was entirely different from moving into a new region where none of your friends or family were. He was here for a new job and whatnot but the idea of being a gym leader was absolutely daunting. Which was why he was a few towns over instead, looking for some more Pokemon to help flesh out his team. After all it would be a lot easier to get a feel for the region and whatnot if he had some Pokemon that were actually from here.

At least that was the lie he told himself as he snuck out of his place this morning. Ignoring the boxes piled up everywhere and the mass amount of work that he needed to do on his gym. This wasn't like him. Normally he was a go getter that loved doing his job. But this wasn't really something he thought of himself doing for his next step of life. What he wanted to do was help mold the future minds of a region and instead he was the new gym leader of a town of senior citizens...

Life never worked out the way you wanted it to it seemed and it really, really sucked.

Cray was startled whenever wings flew overhead. It was his own fault since he had been lost in thought about how miserable his lot in life was right now but that didn't mean he was happy about it. For some reason he felt like he needed to act all cool and tough now that he was a gym leader. Something that he wouldn't really be able to pull off probably. But he could just learn as he went he supposed. Rubbing his face and trying to recover from the Vullaby scaring the hell out of him. At least no one had seen him make a fool of himself.

He could have always released his Pokemon in panic too now that he thought about it. His hand had edged closer to the Pokeball that was closest to him whenever he had been startled. Cray had never been one to rely on his Pokemon to get him out of tough spots unless he absolutely needed them to. Why was he so jumpy nowadays? Was it because of the threat of rockets he had been told about? Or just because he was in a new region? If he could handle children certainly he should have been able to handle himself here...

While the bird before had gotten the better of him, it seemed as though he had wandered upon quite the pudgy thing on the road. The most rotund of Murkrow he had ever seen he wondered if the thing could actually get up off of the ground with how large he was. Not that Cray thought exactly that it was an awful thing but surely someone around here had been feeding the wild Pokemon just a touch too much at this rate. Either that or this Murkrow was quite the snack thief. It could be either or. At least that was what he thought until the bird came waddling up to him quickly.

Loud and obnoxious cries from the bird as he hopped on his feet and circled him with mouth wide open let him know that he had grown accustomed to being fed nonstop by people. It was something the bird had probably picked up quickly since humans liked to entice wild Pokemon in with food in order to get a closer look. In theory it wasn't a bad practice but once you got a Pokemon that thought it could boss people around because of it... Well it probably became a bit of a local nuisance. And old habits would be hard to break.

"Being rude won't get you very far at all young mister." Especially not with him. But his chastising fell on deaf ears with the bird. Or perhaps he didn't hear him at all with how loud his caws had gotten. He supposed as a gym leader he couldn't let this sort of thing go on with him acting as a menace to people who just wanted to live their day to day lives without a Murkrow screaming at them for food. Dropping what would have been a good Pokemon's lunch onto the ground to distract the Murkrow he sighed some.

It would take a lot of work to deal with a Pokemon like this. But luckily it was distracted enough by the fact that there was food within his reach that the Murkrow didn't even notice the gym leader taking out the Pokeball and also didn't notice when it tapped him on his overly round side either, pulling him inside and hopefully to stay.
