Slate slid over a tumbler, the ice clinking in the glass. The sound of @everett ’s piano played lightly in the background.

“Whad’ya know, Slate?”

The tall, lanky man—who’d been a long-time member of Rocket, as well as the only remaining bartender leftover from Ritual’s prior ownership—responded in a gravelly, dry voice, “Been a slow night, Roach.”

The owner ran a finger over the burn mark which ran all the way across the length of his bar-top. “Yep. Fig’re it’s prolly gon' be like this fer a while.” The pool tournament had not been his brightest business move. To be fair, though, the incidents which had occurred could most certainly be credited to mostly shit luck. Something Roach found he was bountiful in.

After a long moment of silence he clicked his tongue and let out a long sigh, picking up a burning cigar out of a nearby ashtray and puffing on it pensively.

[attr="class","bryanbody"] Huh, so the bar he last visited with elijah gardner added some piano? Kind of fancy for some a bar where rocket's hang out. Bryan went back to the same exact table he sat at before, groaning a bit. He was dissapointed in his performance during the excursion, he knew someone at rocket was gonna chew his ass out for acting out of line like that right? He put his head down on the table as his audino saw him obviously upset and continually pat his back and patted it, trying to comfort her trainer. He waited for the server to come up and ask for his owner.

Slate would have been a familiar face to Bryan. The man had been in Rocket for years, held over from the old days. He was an older, stony man, who didn’t talk much. He was typically the favorite among Rocket patrons, for the obvious reason.

Whatever Bryan’s preferred drink was, if he was any sort of regular, Slate would remember it. That drink would be set in front of him, wordlessly, because Slate didn’t ask people how their day was. He had been at this job too long to have to, even in the presence of his boss.

Taking a nursing sip of his drink, Roach peered over at their lone patron as his head nuzzled the bartop. “Rough night?”

[attr="class","bryanbody"]After the shit storm that was bryan and Cillian Quinn's meeting, this was desperately fucking needed. Eris Halla was injured, his clefairy was injured and the tree was barely secured. Good fucking job bryan, you're doing amazing sweetie. He had to get a drink before heading home to quell his thoughts. The drink set in front of him was a whiskey on the rocks, he frequented this bar pretty often so he had it already ready by the time he came in. [break][break]

It was a common hang out spot among rockets and shady people of the like. He sat down and took a rather large swig from the glass in front of him. The only thing that cut in-between Bryan and the sweet sweet smell of the aged oak liquor was a person's desire for conversation. "You have no idea bud." He replies as he moved the glass in pointless circles and continued "One of my mon's is in the hospital right now. A stone edge pierced it's arm." he added as the guilt washed over him.

The depression of sinking profits was lessened by the plight of another. Whiskey warmed emotions in the cauldron of a cast iron heart, and when the brew was ripe, he spooned an ear to all his patrons willing to consume his bullshit. From a king of sorrow, an elbow anchored to his bar, jaw turned into escape. Worry about something else. Somebody else.

Ice clinked against his teeth as he took a sip he didn’t need. “Sorry t’ hear that. Shit sounds rough. Y’wan tell us about it?”

Slate shined a wineglass with a silk cloth, making eye contact with no one, and willing a silent ear. Nothing was his problem but his own.

Roach had a lot to learn.

[attr="class","bryanbody"]Where one found a depression of of sinking profits, another found an alluring charm to this bar. He contrasted Virgil's sip with one that was desperately needed, he had gone without it for quite some time and his body was craving it among other things. [break][break]

He licked the remaining whiskey off of his teeth instead of letting the taste linger as he heard virgil speak to him, "Not entirely if im being honest." as he was coming off as cold and uncaring. He didn't care but honestly having someone to at least talk shit with at the moment would prevent him from losing his shit so. "What about you? Why are you here? Drowning your sorrows too?" he asked curiously.

He didn’t want to talk about it. Roach could understand that. He shrugged it off. Far be it from him to pry at another man. Returning his eyes to his drink a moment, he rolled the soft end of the cigar on his lips; pepper and molasses.

Slightly crooked teeth teased at his counter assault of questions, releasing Unovan twang only thickened by whiskey. “Tch. Yeah, guess it’s some'm’ like that.” It was good-natured, albeit wounded. For the reminder, he took a sip.

“I own this shithole.”

Its emptiness would speak volumes for how that was going. Slate, finally, broke his silence with the lightest slip of grim laughter, replacing the glass in his hand on a high shelf and grabbing another to polish for the third time.

He was surprised it took him this long to meet the owner though, especially when the owner was drinking like a customer here. "My friend likes the nachos and I do too. They're a pretty nice snack, not a good pairing for whiskey though." he says smirking at his statement and suddenly craving some nachos despite the clashing tastes. [break][break]
"Why do you call it a shithole though?" he asked curiously.

Roach’s bewildered eyes cut and shifted to Slate at ‘nachos.’ They didn’t serve food here. Someone was in trouble.

As a whole, though, of Ritual: “Oh, it ain’t that bad. I’m playin’.” His weight leaned into a shoulder to turn towards his dusty kingdom. The creak of the stool was loud, and echoed. “Just slow lately.”

Legs stretched towards the doors, back into a plank’s edge of mahogany. “Now, if I were gonna make a menu, with say, like, couple sandwiches, sum… whatever the hell, kettle chips? That what them shits are? Uhh. Some fish, maybe? … I don’ know. Food.” Never mind buying and moving equipment and going through the legal processes of selling it in the first place. Fuck it. “What would you suggest?”

"Then again, maybe they're too scared to even leave their house." he adds as he pulls the drink away from his lips and rotates the glass on the bar, the water underneath the glass from the condensation making it slowly easier and easier to lose friction. "Hmmm. Depends, do you want this place to be fancy shmancy or like a local gig. If it's a local gig then i'd say anything greasy and fast to make. Maybe potato skins or some shit?" as his words slurred for a second, damn this shit was strong. He then smirked a bit and laughed at his own comment that he wanted to share "Get someone drunk enough and it wont matter, they'll find anything delicious."

Roach sighed.

“Yeeuaahh… I mean, guess I don’ blame ‘em.”

It was his fault. At least he realized it. Wrong decisions. Hard business lessons. They’d recover, maybe with the addition of kettle chips. Them shits.

“That’s a fair point.” he nodded, about things being delicious when drunk.

“Tch. We ain't really tryin' to be anything but open.”

He thought too hard into the side of a pool table and took a long, lazy sip of his drink. The thought entered his mind that there was a much higher probability of fire with kitchen equipment, and began steering away just as quickly as he'd set course.

“Y’know, shit, what do you think about jus’, like... deli sandwiches?”

Ritual would be the only seedy cigar lounge in the city that specialized in them, after all.

However he did offer a reply "Nah man. That's a weird combo in my opinion." he said as he took another sip "You know maybe someone else could handle food for you? I've seen restaurants sponsor bar food. Maybe new spots or something that open up partner with you to get their menu out their? Let them handle food n shit. I don't know. maybe if they come to this bar after the resturant they get a discount or some shit to bring in customers? I'm not business savy." he continues. [break][break]

Roach listened and spun his glass in his hand, propped on an elbow. He would seem rather captivated by Bryan’s suggestions. The whiskey had fine-tuned his focus in an odd way, and so had his plummeting profits.

“Huh.”

It wasn’t much of a response, but he appreciated Bryan’s insight, regardless of where it was coming from. Roach knew plenty of investors who worked within the service industry. Several were regulars to Ritual itself—some of the few who had stuck around since the tournament’s fire.

“Well. We got quiet goin’ for us.” As far as cheap went, Ritual was middle-ground—and Roach didn’t know whether to drop or raise his prices at this point.
