Everything about the atmosphere feels off. From the restlessness in her actions to the obvious lack of quiet rambling or humming echoing through the lab, it's clear to anyone that Eris isn't acting like her usual self.

She measures out a beaker of alcohol, absentmindedly grounding violet flowers, leaves and stems without care for how fine a mush the pieces have been mashed into. All that she can think of are the two missions she's been sent on in the past few days, the casualties of each one and the League personnel who remember her name. As far as she knows, she's done nothing to warrant suspicion nor directly incriminate herself.

But fear is an irrational creature, burrowing deep into the consciousness of every person. She's run into Eva Morales and Locke Jamison after the retrieval of the supposed life tree, bonding with them over little adventures and experiences. And she remembers Hideo Kino and John Sullivan from the time they'd stumbled across numerous dead bodies for an admittedly harrowing experience. What would happen if they truly knew of her allegiances? Would they have been disappointed? Would they attempt to turn her in?

What if they hated her for lying to them?

The newest page of her usually messy notebook remains empty today, unease stunting her thought processes as she fails to pick up the pencil to write. Letting go of the pestle, Eris turns her attention away from the paper and towards her companions, her gaze following the idle movements of a tail and electrical sparks as she leans back into her seat.

Though her mind is filled with a multitude of worries and a handful of scientific thoughts, it is hard for Eris to ignore the way Theo enters the room, her eyes lingering a second too long on his gait as she gingerly sits herself upright.

"You're hurt." The response is quiet, bitter even as she bites her bottom lip at the thought. Hopping off the chair onto her own two feet, Eris wastes no time in moving over to the cabinet in the room, pulling the drawer right open and rummaging through its content before pulling a few objects out of the mix.

"Painkiller. Water. Don't choke." Everything is named as it is placed down, a singular tablet and the cup of thermos flask as she fills it with water. If necessary, she even has antiseptic and bandages on hand, a pair of safety scissors placed in the drawer right under her desk as she watches Theo, expecting him to show the wound if he has any to begin with.

"i'm fine."

to prove his point, he rolls his pant leg up enough to reveal a somewhat fresh wound that's been stitched up. it looks fine, albeit a bit gross to some. he unrolls the pant leg back down.

"i was bit by a houndoom."

She barely blinks at the wound, indifferent to the gruesome nature of the wound but most definitely curious about the circumstances.

"Did you intrude on its territory or something? It looks recent." Though she's not medically trained in the slightest, Eris has learnt more about human injuries and infections than she could ever expect to know through sheer experience alone. In fact, she's gotten a similar wound in the past before, fingers gently tracing her sleeves over where a long faded bitemark would be.

She nudges the pill and the water forward, an unusually blank expression accompanying the action as she glances at Theo, waiting for his answer.

The title of head scientist hits her like a brick, one that she most certainly wasn't expecting as her eyes narrow at the wound. Now, she hasn't quite met Lulu just yet but something tells her that there's more to the matter than he lets on. And yet, she knows better to pry in such situations, allowing her attention to slip back to her notebook as she picks up her pencil and points to the empty glass.

"I had an earlier side project revolving around injuries... bandages incorporating Alomomola membrane helps the wound to heal significantly faster. Medicine using the membrane as an ingredient also helps to speed recovery from illness." She pauses, briefly glancing at her notes. "Oh, but those pills were just normal painkillers. Don't worry."

Flipping a few pages forwards, it's clear that she hasn't achieved quite as much in her recent trips to the lab, observations and hypothesis surrounded by unrelated notes and odd doodles that all seem to share a common trait - All of them are related to the two missions she's been sent on thus far. From a sketch of the tree they'd extracted to the suspicious blob labelled crazy Melmetal, there's been a lot of thoughts on her mind that she hasn't been able to sort through.

"Other than that... not too successful. Just testing out things and readjusting accordingly."

The next two questions Theo poses earns him an uncomfortable silence, the only noises left being the quiet humming of her Rotom as it buzzes around the monitors.

"I... don't really have an answer for that." She replies eventually, idly twirling her pencil between her fingers as she turns her gaze to the ceiling. "I've had a lot of thoughts and they're usually something that I can just brush off with work. But there are a few that I can't really shake." She stands on the precipice of the unknown, a lone traveller on a journey that doesn't seem to have a goal or an end in sight.

"Gavin couldn't answer when I asked if taking the tree had made Yveltal upset... nor did he say what changed Lugia into its current state." Her pencil moves across the white space, scribbling down yet another set of repeated questions. "What exactly is the tree? What properties does it have? For Yveltal to have suddenly attacked us at the site and even tried to destroy it, it must have been of significance."

After a while, she finally puts down the pencil, taking in a deep breath before letting out a lengthy exhale. Her fingers find themselves entangling in Reiner's mane, the Luxray having moved closer to her to offer her comfort in the form of his warmth.

"Chu-e doesn't seem to well either, from the last time I saw him. And I can't stop thinking about the look Ms Eva gave me when we ran into each other at a daycare centre..."

Of all the emotions she had expected to arise, Eris most certainly hadn't expected THEO BECKETT to be worried. The hand he places on her head is somewhat heavy, yet comforting in its weight as she allows herself to find a moment of peace in the touch.

"Ms Eva... Eva Morales is her full name I think. Chu-e said she was a famous doctor or something. I met her during the excursion to retrieve the tree and she helped save my life after Lugia almost killed me." She's actively thinking about it, the memories flowing back to her as the movement of her hands seems to mimic that of a past experience - Specifically, one where she's using a stethoscope to listen to the heartbeats of pokemon.

"She recognised me at a pokemon daycare centre and she looked like she was going to ask me something about the excursion and it kind of scared me. She looks like she knows too much... and she feels so strange to be around. It's like I've seen her somewhere before... even before we met at Route 113."

The name 'Kanto' draws her attention like a serpent, biting deep into her mental as she flinches away from Theo. It's a poison that she has had running through her veins for years, yet one that has had its effects ignored in favour of seeking light in the shadows.

Whether Eva stands as good or bad is suddenly subjective to her allegiances - While she might have saved a life, she has been bound to this duty by her pledges. While she may wish to heal others and cure pokemon of their ailments, she undoubtedly stands in opposition to whatever Rocket stands for and plans to do.

In turn, she is most likely an obstacle to the future Gavin seeks.

"Would she hurt him?" Her question is left ambiguous as to who she may be referring to, but it is probably safe to assume that she means the whole lot - As far as she knew, Bryan had started the fight with a shot right at her and Gavin hadn't seemed to pleased by her presence. Priam had somehow managed to cling onto his cover but she doesn't quite know if Chu-e and Eva have met.

His plan works, a seed of doubt sown deeper into her heart as she averts her gaze to the ground. Would Eva Morales really break her code to bring harm to those she cares for? As long as she stands by the League, a clash seems to be inevitable...

"What do you mean 'dying'?" Eris' voice grows sharp with concern, perhaps even brimming with fear as she forces herself to take a breath. Death means separation, an irreversible parting of ways - She'll be alone again. She'll have no one to place her trust in. She'll no longer have a place to call home...

"There's no way he's dying. He can't die. He promised..."

Denial, a ravenous beast that seeks for reassurance as it burns quietly in her chest. And yet, there is no way of hiding the traces of tears welling up in her eyes. She thought she'd grown numb to the sensation of loss, that she'd gotten used to being alone. When had she allowed the scars to reopen? When had she begun to bleed all over again?
