One word is enough to shuttle Kohen through the silver gates of his ascension. For Silph Co. is the place to be for anyone who hopes to progress humanity. No matter the field, should you prove talented, Silph Co. will find a way to utilize your skills. No exceptions.

An excruciatingly long elevator ride will take him to a middle floor. Behind the opening doors is a hallway that divides every room. Fernando’s is at the end with an obvious lobby ahead. The only thing separating Kohen from his destiny is a wooden door.

Should he enter, the glamor of Silph Co. is replaced with the business professionalism of Fernando’s office. It lacks décor, personality, and anything that may distract him from being his best.

He remains behind his standup desk, surrounded by four monitors as he noisily types away.

“Good morning,” he announces, locking his computer with a quick combination of hotkeys.

“Mr. Oakly.”

And with that he steps away from behind his desk, lowering it alongside the monitors. They spread with the glide of several mounting arms, dismissed to create a clear view between Silph and Oak.

A BOLD PERSONALITY IS NOT ONE TYPICAL FOR THOSE WHO STAND BEFORE THEIR DESTINY. Fernando is taken back, mentally, but his expression never so much as twitches. Kohen is not the first to betray his expectations nor will he be the last. If anything, his first impression comes off as incredibly blunt—not necessarily a bad thing, but one Fernando keeps in his back pocket.

“A necessary evil considering the vastness of our layout,” Fernando answers with a playful hum. “Better to have the more used floors fitted with shorter rides. A small price to pay for being unpopular but one I’ll gladly take to ensure those who ride the elevator more often have a smoother ride.”

KOHEN’S VENACULAR IS A STARK REMINDER ON WHY SILPH CO. IMPLICITLY DISCRIMINATES AGAINST YOUNGER APPLICANTS. But Fernando has dealt with worse. Stomaching the League’s upper echelon has grown his digestive cultures into a biome capable of parsing through anything, even this young man’s phrasing.

“An interesting proposition,” Fernando appropriates, curious but by no means sold with a simple elevator speech. Much like his ride into his office, Kohen’s exposition is long winded with the hinted promise of a reward worthy of the wait.

“I’ll bite,” he succumbs with a soft, practiced laugh. “How have you revolutionized the frontier of Pokemon capture?”

KOHEN’S FERVOR IS INFECTIOUS. Before Fernando is an individual, he is a Silph. Success runs in his veins. Someone with this type of passion, if blessed with just a smidge of talent, will be able to bloom if nurtured. The only ask is, do they have the seeds of ability deep within them?

“Status ball,” he repeats, forcing curiosity into his voice. He does so to make up for his lack of genuine expressiveness, one too saturated with the supernatural to sound astounded by more ‘vanilla’, human interests.

“Indeed. Go ahead, Mr. Oakly.”

THE SPECTACLE IS ENOUGH TO SELL FERNANDO. Kohen, for all his intricacies, has earned the President’s approval. He’s a bit rough around the edges for Fernando’s taste but every eccentric scientist has their quirks. It’s all about how he puts them to use–a personal hobby from the man of tomorrow.

There is no congratulations. Fernando’s endorsement is silent, kept to himself as he mulls over his decision. There’s no point in revealing his own assessment without further knowledge.

He clicks his tongue, staring at the Statusball.

“And you created this on your own?”
