it does, however, awaken after the attack connects, perhaps the pain helping to stir it awake.

roaring in pain, the SHADOW BALL sends magmortar into the ground, sand bursting all around them.

but the temperatures soon rise as a LAVA PLUME erupts, scattering across the battlefield.

the shadow ball seemed to hit its mark as the sounds of a dying sandstorm started to wane leaving room for the sound of a loud thud against the sand pierce through and the palossand turned its attention to where it was coming from. a costly mistake as a lava plume shot through the sands and blasted the ghost type's face with heat.  with a grunt of effort the sand castle ghost pushed again the lava and with a wail let out a stream of green energy that snaked its way towards the fire type to  giga drain it and recover some of its lost energy by stealing form its opponent as the sandstorm disappated.

sandstorm count 5/5!

[attr="class","matias"]the SANDSTORM begins to dissipate, perhaps signaling for the battle to come to an end.

GIGA DRAIN does little to deter the magmortar; its natural fire-type giving it enough resistance for it to simply power through. it raises a heavy arm and once again, a FLAMETHROWER pours out, looking to end the battle.

as the flamethrower managed to burn the sand castle even as it decided to shore up its defenses it did a lot more than either it or kazimir could even think about as the castle moved forward oonly for a small flame to suddenly burst from out of its side. the flamethrower had managed to burn the pallossand and it was enough to weaken it to the point of being done with the fire as it crumbled and deflated into the sand with kazimir silently cursing as he took out a pokeball and returned his pokemon. "oh man...taken out by a status effect, that always stings no matter what. guess ya take this win today man. was a pretty great battle still." he complimented with a hand outstretched in good sportsmanship.
