Public battling events always rub Plank the wrong way. It all feels so . . . sanitized? Kiddy? It's weird, maybe even gross, to take issue with a fight being safer and more structured; but she does anyway. It's not how Plank was taught to battle. It's not what she's familiar with.

And yet, here she is. The girl who thought she'd never take the kitschy gym challenge, now supplementing said challenge with public battles at this All Stars Tournament or whatever it's called.

But what else can she do? She needs to get better, and she needs to get better fast. If she wants to rise in the ranks and escape the vulnerabilities of grunthood that's her only choice.

At least most people won't know it's her out here.

Why was everyone in Rocket trying to hide their identity? and , he understood. They were both wanted by the League. But why Plank? Did he miss a memo or something?

Killian sighed, observing Merlino's protege from across the beach. He wouldn't ruin her disguise. She'd done a great job, but Killian had enough experience to see through it.

"Bloodborne, Cerebro, don't take it easier on her. I'm eager to see what our mutual friend has taught her."

The Metagross and Poipole move onto the battlefield.

"You can make the first move."

[attr="class","sunshine"]"Huh?" Plank's initial tone is openly hostile to whoever's approached her so brazenly. When she turns around her mouth is twisted into a sneer and her eyes are narrowed. Then, she sees who it is. For once she recognizes the face of a Rocket elite.

Not because they've met, but because she's gotten sick of not knowing the features of the people most likely to pose a threat to her health.

"Ah, yeah, sure," she changes her tune pretty quick, rubbing at the back of her wig with one hand while creating a bit of space between herself and Killian. Nerves fight against excitement as she pulls a couple pokeballs from her pocket. The last time she battled against an elite it ended with a nasty scar on her leg, and the time before that it had . . . well, ended the same way. Like mentor like student she guesses.

But . . . this is a public place under league battle rules. And if she wants to become a Beast like Gavin recommended she needs to prove her battling abilities to the higher ups.

This is nothing but an opportunity then. With a flick of her wrist she sends two pokeballs flying from her finger tips. In flashes of white her Pelipper and Sharpedo reveal themselves. Instantly the air immediately above them clouds over. Swabbie's DRIZZLE starts a steady flow of rain that turns the sand under their feet and across the space between them to sticky mud.

"Let's not waste any time fellas, hoist sails and get the fuck in there!" She orders her pokemon.

Immediately Swabbie beats his wings, creating a stiff TAILWIND to propel himself and his partner. Said partner shoots forward, closing space between herself and the admin's pokemon. With a roar Baby sends energy rippling through the wet sand, an EARTHQUAKE that sends the shells and rock resting underneath straight up in jagged chunks at Poipole and Metagross.

A few fly around by Swabbie, but the Pelipper easily uses the drafts of his TAILWIND to float around them and out of harm's way.

In the aftermath of her attack, Baby's muscles tighten. The Sharpedo's SPEED BOOST ensuring she'll stay one of the quickest fighters on the field.

Plank starts strong, covering the battlefield in a downpour of rain. Killian's not concerned with the drizzle at the moment. The earthquake about to rock the sandy arena is more important. Metagross feels weathered grains vibrate underneath its feet. Cerebro's reaction is quick. Its legs tuck into its body as it lifts off the ground with magnetic force.

Poipole isn't so lucky. Serrated chunks of hardened sand stab into it from all angles. Its armored body lessens the damage, but the attack is still super-effective.

By this point in the tournament, Poipole has seen enough action to no longer need direct orders from Killian. A hyperactive toddler high on a sugar rush, the Ultra Beast zooms across the battlefield. Acid bubbles deep within Bloodborne's stomach. Unable to keep it contained, gastric acid vomits from its mouth at Sharpdeo.



Poipole is hit by Earthquake.
Metagross uses Magnet Rise to become immune to Earthquake.
Poipole uses Gastro Acid on Sharpdeo to disable its ability.

[attr="class","sunshine"]The opening is weaker than Plank had hoped, but not fruitless. The Metagross managed to easily float out of the reach of the stabbing rocks, so Plank zeroes in on the Poipole. She opts to emulate and the way he'd focused one of her pokemon to start their gym battle.

"This baby looks ready for a nap!" she shouts to Baby and Swabbie, "Put it in the dirt!"

The order comes as said baby burps up all over Plank's Sharpedo. Her muscles that were tightening under the effect of SPEED BOOST slacken back to their normal tension thanks to the GASTRO ACID; but with the TAILWIND at her back she still has ample support for her next move.

She gnashes her teeth twice, stirring up energy that makes them glow dangerously, before lashing out with a retaliatory PSYCHIC FANG at the Poipole.

That isn't all.

Swabbie begins to beat his wings again. This time the action calls forth whistling gales instead of a pleasant TAILWIND. The HURRICANE the Pelipper summons surges out towards the Poipole as well, growing larger and fiercer with the support of the rain and rushing winds around the combatants.
