Death rode into Fallarbor on a mare paler than ash. It struck in the dead of night, a silent predator who found its prey in a young man with a head full of dreams. Fantasies that couldn't save him when the deathbird's bell tolled.

Ian stared at the ash-covered body. It lay messily in a crater on the outskirts of town.

He was supposed to feel something, wasn't he? Shock over finding the body, disgust for the brutality of the kill. None of that came despite how hard he searched for it. The lack of emotion should frighten him, but something else ate away at his apathy.

Officiousness.

Who killed this man? Why? Was it a kill of passion or planned? Were the killer and the man strangers or friends? The violent nature of the kill suggested the latter. Round and round turned the gears in his head. Until Ian couldn't stand it anymore, he hopped into the pit.

"Let's see what answers your body gives." Ian muttered as he began to search the corpse.

One of the rats pulled it's eyes away from Surtur to look at Summer. Their head tilted at her question. He? Did she mean -

Lightning flashed and again the Rattata scattered. All but one fleed to other rooms of the luxury home. That single rat stood before the shattered window kitchen with a figure looming behind it.

CRACK

Another bolt of light struck illuminating the familiar, haunting form of Killian Decker. When the next strike came he was gone - and so was the Rattata.

Rodents often showed up where they were least wanted. Ian's mischief of black Rattata moreso than most. They drummed a steady rhythm against the dining room window. Who cared if glass was fragile and they were many. To escape the rain they'd chew through iron if needed.

Tap Tap - Crash

Unable to withstand the beat of a dozen tiny paws the glass shattered. In a hurry, the waterlogged rats scampered inside. They dashed along the countertops, slipping behind the fridge and into cupboards. Two made their way out of the kitchen and toward the spiraling staircase.

They froze at the first step. Their beady eyes starring up at the woman descending. She seemed... familiar.

The smooshed pack of menthols Killian pulled out had seen better days. They both had. He only began to bring one to his lips when the bar door opened.[break][break]

Killian peered out from the shadows, locking eyes with a stranger. Not his target. He sighed and finished bringing the cigarette to his lips. Strangely enough, he didn't light it but chewed on the butt.[break][break]

This was a difficult choice to make. I've been on Hoenn for 2 and a half years - a long time - a great time. But all great things come to an end eventually. And for me, that's now.

My life has gotten too busy to keep up with Hoenn. Which sucks because I want to be here writing with everyone. I want to be creative and tell fantastic stories with talented people.

But I don't have the time, and when I do, I don't have the energy to write. So I think that's my cue to step away.
