Okay, technically Cardamom was just here to help out with her parents' booth, and she'd mostly signed up for the tournament just as an afterthought. After all, there were supposed to be several other events she could participate in to earn points. Still, actual battles were actually quite the thrill to direct. And since Banana Bread had missed the last one due to being stuck on advertising duty, she figured she owed him one.[break][break]
Which was why the two of them were currently flying a ways above the beach, looking around for other people who might be open to a challenge. Banana Bread's advertising board had also been helpfully replaced with a quickly hand-drawn "Seeking Challenges" board, in font hopefully large enough to be seen from below as well. Then again, maybe they'd encounter someone else also taking to the air to find a challenge.[break][break]
"You're the only one I've got who can do a Sky Battle," noted Cardamom, patting the Tropius on the head. "So let's try and see if we can find someone else in the sky to challenge, alright?" The Tropius let out a murmur of assent, bringing a smile to her face.

kyle has set the filter for his challenges to be open for anything on the vs seeker app specifically developed for this event. the skies were just the most convenient place to look for battlefields for most of them.

sitting atop his aerodactyl as he tries to find places on the beach that weren't occupied yet, he spots something else entirely that catches his attention. he waves his hand towards the tropius.

"oh, hey!" kyle calls as he sees someone with him in the skies. "you in on the tournament too?" he asks.

his aerodactyl lunges at the tropius, but kyle manages to rein in his fossil pokemon to slow down its advance instead. it'd slow down, and then just stay in the air with enough distance to hold a conversation without shouting.

Cardamom heard someone calling out to her, and turned, taking a moment to make sure that it was actually directed at her. Not seeing anyone else in the general vicinity, she nodded, directing Banana Bread to turn in Kyle's direction and fly a bit closer. "Yeah! I was kind of planning to just participate in some of the games, but battling was pretty fun too!" She started slightly when the Aerodactyl lunged forward, but Banana Bread's response was simply to glare intimidatingly. Luckily, Kyle seemed to have the fossil Pokemon under control.[break][break]
"Anyways, I heard there were bonus prizes for certain types of battling, and one of them was a Sky Battle! Banana Bread didn't get to participate in the last fight, so I thought I could crack two eggs with the same bowl and let him stretch his limbs a bit!" She patted the Tropius on the neck affectionately as she spoke, just to make clear who she was talking about.

"banana bread? that's a nice name."

before he gets distracted and trails off to the wrong topic, he quickly shuffles from his aerodactyl's back and looks for the one pokemon he had always tried to use in a battle.

"i got a pokemon in the same state too. let me have it have a match with banana bread."

from the ball still attached to the holster on his hip comes a rotom. it zooms around in the air in erratic patterns. at least the orange part of its body was easy to spot in the sky, as opposed to the blue plasma surrounding it.

"now it's like three eggs, or something." he smiles at himself since he thinks he's being witty before turning back to cardamom. "wanna take the first move?" he asks.

"Well, it was actually my mom's idea. All her Pokemon have names like that." Cardamom wasn't quite sure how to respond to the compliment about the name, since she herself found it a somewhat odd choice of theme. Still, she wasn't about to complain to it to someone who seemed to like said name.[break][break]
Cardamom nodded at the offer to go first. "Sure! Just let me get situated first," she added, Banana Bread already diving down to set her down on a nearby rock before flying back up to meet the Rotom head-on. He wasn't as agile, of course, but as he flew back up to face his opponent he let out a low bellow, a cry of challenge. Cardamom grinned up at him, cupping her hands to her mouth to call out her first command.[break][break]
"Let's start big! Leaf Tornado!" The Tropius' leafy wings started flapping even faster as she ordered the move to be used, and slowly bits of leaves started gathering around him, collecting into a ring around his middle before they flew forwards, encircling the Rotom in a whirling dervish of leaves that sliced and cut at the Ghost-type.[break][break]

he never really used this rotom in an actually serious fight before besides acting as a swiss army knife on high stake moments, so he's not sure what to expect. still, the rotom can't be that bad since he did somewhat train it.

leaves cut through the rotom as much as its small body try to evade. the leaf tornado circles the ghost-type, limiting its options in terms of repositioning, and kyle plans on doing the same to their opponent.

"thunder wave!" he cheers from atop his aerodactyl, who seemingly is disappointed that it's not the one fighting.

from the eye of the ~~leaf tornado~~ storm, the rotom manages to shoot a nigh invisible string of electricity towards the flying beast. a thunder wave makes it way through everything and flies straight towards the tropius.

Banana Bread and Cardamom both winced as the bolt of electricity came flying towards the Tropius. He didn't even try to dodge, instead choosing to fly forwards right at his opponent, closing the distance before the thunder crackled around him, making his muscles seize up tightly. He froze in midair, struggling to move and get in closer. However, halfway to approaching his opponent, his body finally froze completely, his wings barely able to flap enough to keep him upright. Cardamom let out a worried hiss.[break][break]
"Come on Banana Bread!" she whispered. "You can do it!" But for now, the Tropius was a sitting Ducklett for whatever the Rotom planned to do next.

unfortunately for the tropius, the rotom's trainer intends of just stacking one status on top of the other. might not the best play on hindsight, but it's the journey at the end of the fight that matters.

"confuse ray."

with the tropius seizing up, it was easy for the rotom to flash its lights at the grass-type. the confuse ray travels towards the paralyzed tropius while the rotom remains from a better altitude.

"Close your eyes!" yelled Cardamom, but it was too late. Already the Tropius was mesmerized by the flashing lights, unable to break free of the paralysis in time to avoid seeing them. He struggled to move, his wings slowly spreading wider and flapping towards his opponent, but as he tried to dash in closer he suddenly veered away, his neck twisting in midair as his head slammed into one of his own forelimbs. He tumbled in the air for a moment before righting himself, looking very haggard.[break][break]
"Banana Bread!" called Cardamom, looking extremely worried now. "Can-can you still fight?" The Tropius didn't seem to hear her for a moment, but finally let out a low bellow, still determined to face his opponent to the end!

it's not a pretty move, but kyle decides that it'll make the most interesting turn of events in the end anyways.

paralyzed, distressed and disoriented, kyle wasn't sure why he wanted to pile on with the headache. the rotom decides to zoom upwards in a higher altitude, where it would release a booming sound that caused ringing in kyle's ears.

he'd yell at it to stop later, but realized that his voice would just get drowned with the noise. maybe the rotom will stop soon or something.

Cardamom heard the order and immediately moved to cover her ears, closing her eyes as she ended up feeling the vibrations of the sound nonetheless. Unfortunately, Banana Bread didn't have the limbs to do the same, and received the full force of the Rotom's scream. He let out a pained bellow as it reverberated through his body, making his very bones vibrate. Still, upon seeing the Rotom flying higher, and Cardamom unable to give a command, he fought through the paralysis trying to freeze his muscles up and started flapping his wings, climbing higher and higher as he prepared to summon another Leaf Tornado, hopefully reaching upwards enough to toss around the ghost that had been causing so much trouble. Cardamom, watching this, smiled just a bit, since that was pretty much what she would have ordered in this case anyways.[break][break]

kyle covers his aerodactyl's ears for it, as he is somehow used with loud noises ruining his ears already. years of living with more dogs than one should ever own gives him some kind of immunity to it.

at least he doesn't have to do it for any longer when the tropius finally shuts the rotom up. a leaf tornado disturbs its flight, knocking it all over as its light body can't handle all that turbulence.

he supposed he just has to support itself by its own to recover from it.

"ominous wind!"

gusts of wind suddenly blow from behind the rotom and towards the tropius after its leaf tornado ends. for the most part, the rotom manages to regain stability in the air.

Banana Bread winced as the wind came flying at him, shuddering as it passed through his body. He faltered in his flight for a moment, dipping lower as he glared up at the ghost darting back and forth. Cardamom racked her memories as she tried to recall what berry Banana Bread had-it was a Dragon-type one, right? So it wouldn't be particularly effective in this case. She'd just have to hope that the Tropius didn't run out of energy before the Rotom collapsed.[break][break]
"Keep that up!" she called. The Tropius nodded slightly, both wings spreading wide as he summoned yet another Leaf Tornado. He was definitely tiring, though he still seemed determined to take his opponent down as fast as he could.[break][break]

kyle utters a single word of surprise when he sees his rotom start to lose altitude after the attack, seemingly defeated from it. it falls from the sky, and with its descent, kyle can only see the plasma surrounding the bulb grow brighter.

"you can do another attack, right?" he shouts, ears still defective from the earlier sound-based move.

with its trainer's voice, it starts to cackle, and as it cheekily closes the distance from its act, it discharges a high voltage lightning strike to everything that surrounded it.
