Faces come and go, flowers left to dry out, cards piled on a side table, unopened.[break][break]

There are only a few people she actually pulls herself up to see, the rest are chased out by an overprotective Lycanroc.[break][break]

Her short-term memories are a blur, painfully being pieced together as the days or weeks go by. Time flies when you're having fun, and when you're not.[break][break]

She'd been in a coma, they said. In and out of consciousness, restless, uncomfortable, in so much pain that they'd considered putting her back under, indefinitely. But sheer stubbornness and Rocket's reluctance to let one of their strongest members slip between the cracks stayed their hand.[break][break]

But she wasn't the same, and she never would be.

[attr="class","sunshine"]When Wolfe didn't come back to see her it wasn't a disappointment, or even something that stuck in her mind for more than a couple hours. There was no relationship to be broken there. Only a few surprisingly nice moments, incapable of being tarnished by a white lie.

Plank left the medical bay without seeing the admin again. Went back to her missions. All without Wolfe coming to mind once. Then she suddenly was forced to reconsider the why of that "lie". The fact it wasn't a lie at all.

At first hearing the woman had been in an accident and slipped into a coma was whatever. Lunchroom gossip about a woman she barely knew. With time, though, it became a bit of an earworm. A thought that kept coming back up while she was training, or eating, or brushing her hair.

That's why she finds herself wandering back into the medbay awkwardly. Shuffling her feet in a way that betrays how reluctant she is to be there, but there nonetheless. The first time she puts eyes on Wolfe, Plank can't help sucking her teeth. She looks rough.

"So, ya dead or what?" she asks as she saunters up to her bedside, ignoring the Lycanroc that stares her down from Wolfe's feet.

The door creaks open, tentative steps bring a woman close to her bedside. Hades is ever vigilant, but far more relaxed than he had been with any other visitors. Rather than greet her with wild eyes and a guttural snarl, he watches her quietly. Perhaps all of his constant watching has exhausted him.[break][break]

He hasn't eaten in days, unwilling to rest until he knows Emma will stand back up again.[break][break]

Emma can hear the intake of breath- it was pretty much everyone's first reaction. Even oscar clayton had looked uncomfortable with the extent of her injuries. If she looked as rough as she felt, then she couldn't blame them.

Her eyes blink open although she cannot see through the bandages wrapped over her eyes. Emma groans softly, stirring at the voice nearby. It feels familiar, especially with the sarcastic tone.[break][break]
"Feels like it."

One of her hands tucks itself into her hoodie pocket while the other reaches up to scratch at the back of her head. She scans the older woman's body -- what's visible above the blankets.

Silence hangs for a couple seconds as she finds herself at a loss for words. She isn't worried, wasn't worried, but she's not not concerned. Maybe it's just a transactional tit-for-tat thing; but she'd feel bad leaving her high and dry after Wolfe helped with her concussion.

(Would she even be leaving her high and dry? It's not like Wolfe is as friendless as she is here, right?)

"So uh, what the fuck happened?" she finally speaks up again, "I mean I figured ya were just flakin' on me until I found out ya were uh . . . a vegetable? Or whatever? Well you're not, obviously, a vegetable -- you're awake but . . . I mean it's not like the other grunts know anythin' aside from ya were in the medbay for-fuckin-ever. No one really knows why. So, like, what happened?"

Okay yeah maybe it's better if she go back to staying awkwardly silent. Thank god those bandages keep the admin from seeing the faces she's pulling at her own word vomit.

Emma's head aches with the slow attempt at recollection. The voice matches to a young woman with long auburn hair- short now. It was short now, that's right. She sighs, leaning her head back and into the shitty pillow barely keeping her aloft.[break][break]

Eventually, the silence is swallowed up again by Plank, seeing as Emma has no interest in responding.[break][break]

But the babbling and the reminder and the questioning curves her lips into a frown. She glances away, not that she can see anything for it to matter. There is a long second of pause before she starts to answer.[break][break]

"Some stupid kid detonated his Pokemon."[break][break]

Her mouth is dry and her voice off-tune. It forces her to take a breath and swallow, uncomfortable.[break][break]

"I.. can't remember."

[attr="class","sunshine"]It's not until Wolfe frowns that Plank considers maybe revisiting the trauma that put you in a coma is something the woman is loath to do. This is why she doesn't visit people in the hospital. Not that she's ever really had a reason to until today, but at least in principle this is why she shies away from the idea.

"I mean, it doesn't really matter. I guess it's just important you're alive or whatever, ya know?" she spits out in a rush, crossing her arms and unsure why she's so fucking anxious right now.

"Kinda fucked that ya can't remember, though," she continues. Speaking without thinking again.

There is a bitterness in her tone that reflects more than simply the situation she's in. Her thumb rubs at the ring finger on her left hand with a ferocity- like she's trying to pop a knuckle. [break][break]

"It's called 'post-traumatic amnesia'. I just need.. time."[break][break]

Emma exhales, frustration leaking through. Her emotions are difficult to maintain control over, her anger white-hot and fresh. It runs rampant now in her recovery, a side-effect of the pain.[break][break]

"Are you just here to drill me on what happened? Or is there something you need, Vela?"[break][break]

The woman's stomach growls, and Emma leans back into her pillow, agitated.

[attr="class","sunshine"]Wolfe's response earns a short bark of laughter from Plank. Like most of their interaction so far the reaction's definitely not appropriate, but it makes her think of the last time they were together in the medbay.

"Now who's bein' dramatic?" she asks, grinning, "Alive is alive. Dead is dead. Even if ya feel like shit it's better you're able t' feel like shit."

She nods along quietly as Wolfe explains her condition, and can't help but laugh again at the sound of her growling stomach.

The frustration she flings Plank's way rolls off like water on a Ducklett. She knows what it's like to be wound up and helpless to do anything about it. You throw anger wherever's closest at hand.

"It's good it's not permanent, kinda need your brain t' do admin stuff," she says, "figure it'll put itself together better if we get ya some food, though, so how about I stop 'drillin' ya 'n' see what the doctors'll let ya have?"

Laughter is typically contagious, but Emma's blank expression as a result of Plank's laugh throws a wrench in that theory.[break][break]

"Hm."[break][break]

She is stubborn, offering only a cold front to Plank's encouragement. But she's right, and she knows that. There is a burn in her chest, a need to fight and to keep on fighting. [break][break]

The mention of food, regardless of her attempts to be indifferent, bring Emma's attention back around to Plank. [break][break]

"Anything but mashed potatoes."[break][break]

Her nose crinkles.

"No mashed potatoes, got ya," she confirms with another light laugh before walking out of Wolfe's special corner in the medbay and looking around. When she spots a doctor she whistles. Yes, like you might call a Houndour.

"Hey, what can small, dark, and helpless over here eat?"
