above them, stretching down the hallway and up the stairs, are nests of various bugs. he can't identify all of them but he's sure he sees ariados' webs.

she considers if maybe a dragonbreath will do the trick faster - but darren's probably right. "good thinking," she nods.

she cycles between the pokeballs fastened to her belt, letting loose a squat little poliwhirl. "alright, bubbles, you're up."

gloved fists raised, a short burst of concentrated bubbles rip through flimsy web with ease.

after zipping up his backpack, his hand falls to his belt, fingers brushing against each pokeball before stopping on one. it pops open, calling out his politoed who's just about as short as nat's poliwhirl.[break][break]

darren's preemptively snapping his fingers, calling for albert's attention.[break][break]

"albert, buddy, ALBERT PLEASE LISTEN."[break][break]

after a croak, the politoed finally turns.[break][break]

"finall—thank you. now, spit water at the webs."[break][break]

another croak, then a HYDRO PUMP follows.

the webs snag and snare as their combined power knocks them loose. nat reaches for her flashlight, its beam piercing through the dimly lit apartment for the presence of actual pokemon.

she motions for them to keep moving, boots stepping over the fallen web as she keeps her eyes trained forward.

even after the now-drenched webs splatter against the ground, albert's HYDRO PUMP doesn't stop, not even after a bonk on his head.[break][break]

"you're KILLING me here."[break][break]

with a sigh, darren scoops an arm around albert and lifts the politoed up, which seems to does the trick. the HYDRO PUMP stops, allowing them to carry on.[break][break]

bubbles lets out a gurgling laugh at their antics, before hopping her way over to nat's side. "he's speaking a little more. still a little shy around strangers though. always a handful, not nearly as much as albert over there, though," she smirks.

the flashlight pans across the apartment before a flash of red snatches her attention. "we've got company," she warns, switching up her roster and returning her poliwhirl. "fluffy!"

comical name aside, the archeops answers the call with a high pitched screech, mirroring the chittering of the ariados staring them down viciously, protective over its clutch.

once holding dominion over the skies, the archeops stalks its foe cautiously, claws digging into the wooden beams overhead. she watches nat for her signal.

"steady," she watches for the ariados' movement. as it poises to lunge and strike, she shouts, "now!"

fluffy's jaws split open, a bolt of electric blue flames wreathing the creature in a dragonbreath.

fluffy scuttles along the ceiling, flurry of white pins chasing after her. she launches herself off, putting all her weight against the creature's back and sinking her razor sharp teeth against the back of its neck. the ariados flails its four appendages wildly, screeching in pain. her talons are next, keeping the spider from bucking her off.

the collective weight of both of them sends it hurtling to the ground. fluffy lifts off, just in time for nat to turn to darren. "now, finish it!"
