[attr="class","sunshine"]The smoke is already thick. The summer heat mingles with the waves of hot air just wafting from the burning building. The scene is familiar to Millicent on an intimate level. Already she's scanning the building as she throws down a pokeball beside her.

Bibarel bursts forth, at first looking excited and curious before suddenly growing serious. Just like Millicent she's no stranger to this kind of situation. She clicks her teeth to let her trainer know she's paying attention.

"House fire, Honeybunch," she tells the pokemon in a hurry, "we're not suited up, so we're gonna focus on trying to keep it from spreading to too many other houses. We're only going in if there's anyone in immediate danger inside."

The fire is a surprise. Millicent was out shopping when the shouting started, and she's far from in uniform. The usual kind of large, fluffy dress she wears on her days off bounces and swishes as she looks around. With one hand she reaches into her purse and pulls out a badge.

"Okay guys!" she shouts to the crowd that's started to gather, "Keep your distance, okay? I'm a ranger! Me and my pokemon will do our best to, like, keep the fire in check; but I can't guarantee your safety if you get too close!"

With that she nods over her shoulder to Honeybunch. The Bibarel nods back before running her eyes over the house. Soon Millicent will be able to give her more specific instruction, but for now she spots a window billowing smoke and begins blasting at it with a WATER GUN.

It's a half measure. Already flames begin to spread across the yard and lick at the next house over.

naturally, darren heads in the opposite direction of the rushing crowd, forced to shoulder and grunt his way through them before reaching the scene of the fires.[break][break]

unlike his counterpart, darren's in uniform, badge flashing in his hand as he approaches. his politoed hops close behind, seemingly unaware of the dangers of the situation.[break][break]

"em! what are you wearin— fuck, we don't have time for that. what's the situation?"

[attr="class","sunshine"]For a moment Millicent gets to focus on the fire. With civilians properly warned and distanced she turns around to address the house. She gives a short, affirmative nod at the sight of Honeybunch's chosen target before looking around. She catches sight of the burning yard and is quickly snapping to get her Bibarel's attention.

"Good job, Honeybunch, but right there! See that, like, little trail of fire? Make sure that doesn't spread!" she commands and Honeybunch gets to work. WATER GUN swings from the window to the grass. Then it shifts, arcing higher and lower, sweeping side to side. Desperately attempting to outrun the flames.

Millicent turns around again at the sound of her name. She flashes a tired, anxious smile at Darren as he approaches.

"I'm not on duty right now, so much for days off right?" she says with an uncomfortable giggle, "House fire. Don't know what part of the house it started in or why, but it's, like, pretty much spread everywhere inside from what I can make out."

She points to the house as she speaks -- dragging her pointer finger from the smoking front door, to the fire flashing in the kitchen window, to the stream of smoke pouring out of a window on the second story.

"As far as I know nobody's inside, but it's spreading fast, Darren. With how close these houses are to each other things could get, like, really seriously bad if we don't get it under control."

but there's not much that can be done to save the inside. they'd have to focus on controlling the flames to stop them from spreading. tense, he runs a hand along his belt to call out two more pokemon.[break][break]

henry the raichu floats up, hovering by darren's head; burt the pincurchin sticks to henry's back.[break][break]

"i think our best bet is to continue spraying it with water. henry can do his best to keep it from spreading too much."[break][break]

[attr="class","sunshine"]Millicent chews her lip a bit. She was kind of hoping Darren would have some magical answer to their situation, but they are just two rangers. More like one and a half at the moment, since her outfit has her pretty limited. Preventing further damage is probably all they can do.

"Yeah, that makes sense," she replies, still smiling anxiously. Honeybunch is already hard at work. She stands on the blackened grass she just put out and is now back to blasting WATER GUN into the broken out windows and onto any stray sparks that threaten to light up the yard again.

The house next door once being merely licked at begins to quietly burn in one corner. It's slow building and out of sight to both Millicent and her Pokemon.

"Maybe we can . . . shoot," she mumbles, looking sadly over the already burning house, "Yeah I guess all we can do is, like, burn time until backup comes --- Oh that's awful! That wasn't a joke!"

Her face is red and very genuinely embarrassed when she looks back to Darren.

but at least they're both on the same page. he just wonders how long exactly they'd have to hold out — he peers over his shoulder for nonexistent backup, sighs, then turns back to focus.[break][break]

"but yeah! let's burn some time. HENRY! ALBERT! BURT! TO YOUR STATIONS."[break][break]

henry, with burt on his back, surfs forward, floating towards the fires. his tail twitches in a PSYCHIC that looks to keep the flames at bay, holding them in place for albert on the ground to start a stream of HYDRO PUMP. it's not much, but it's all they can do.[break][break]

burt does the same with gentle BUBBLE BEAMS.
