Once again, a battle on the beach. A tussle in the hot sun. Giona was like a cat in a way; he did things sort of arbitrarily. Having built up a collection as of late, he was planning on shooting for being something of an expert on Ghost types. On having something his name was attached to that wasn't a forest fire.

To that end, he was met with not one but two people against whom he could put on a show. A sort of demo-reel for the general public. He nodded to the other two, and stood with his back to the sun. He wore black denim shorts, and a slightly oversized white rash-guard tee to block the sun.

Giona held out a white Premier-Ball, and pushed the button. It opened, and clattered to the ground after a red flash. Nothing came out, as far as the two of them could tell.

"I think the cooler's nearby... I gotta quit camping out by it. Hey, are you down to clown?" He said, looking to the two older men. He was 23, and just a hair under 5'8. His shadow grew long and purple, waving in the wind like a flag. It then stood up, taking the shape of a Gengar, with its trademark wicked grin.

Fuck the ELO.

That was basically it at this point.

Sure, he didn’t mind having those three wins, but there was something—calling out to him. He didn’t exactly know what, he didn’t exactly know why, but there was something that was trying to catch his attention…

Or maybe he was overthinking things.

Either way, he’d bought several more snow cones again and was going through a raspberry-flavored one when he heard someone was looking for a challenge—

And he was really looking for more people to ~~bust nuts~~ cross Pokémon with.

“Yeah, I’m down. You packin’ a Gengar, then?” he said as he bit through the snow cone, leaving a sizable chunk missing in it.

He had a Pokémon with him, however he wasn’t going to reveal who it was just yet—

At least, until the proper challenge was issued.

Another day of challenges and battles. This time, however, thing might be a bit different. As Balder stretching his topless body at the beach, coincidentally near Lars, he heard an individual challenge the two of them. And a Gengar emerging behind the challenger. As he observed the reaction of Lars, who seemed to want to take part as well, the alolan finished streching.[break][break]

"Sure, but don't expect it to be your usual match." The man took a few steps back as he proceeded to summon two of his teammates: Heatran and Zeraora. "I'll take both of you on at the same time. So you better not hold back, especially you Lars." The Heatran roared whilst the Zeraora was jumping on its feet, ready to throw down.

Once again, a battle on the beach. A tussle in the hot sun. The two nodded, seemingly taking him up on his offer. He reached for his tee, tugging at the collar to try and fan himself. It blocked the sun, sure. But he still managed to sweat like a dog in the heat.

Balder made it clear that this would be no ordinary challenge. Normally, it'd strike him as just bluster. He'd have humored him anyways, being mostly bluster himself. However, a Heatran landed on the field, its four gargantuan paws displacing sand merely by standing on it.

Giona smirked. He was really in for some shit. Nonetheless, he had to pretend that he wasn't trembling, that his smirk was genuine. That he was just fooling around, with an impish expression like a cat slowly pushing something off the counter.

"Alright. I'm ready when you are." He said, looking to the two older men. He whistled, with a note descending. Like someone doing an impression of something falling off a cliff. Gengar took note, snickering and "falling" into the ground. Into a tunnel created by Phantom Force. The entrance looked like a grey smear of paint on the sand; the sand that was gold, save for the glass-like sediment inside that occasionally caught the sun and flashed white.

His eyebrows went up at the sight of Balder literally—wow, okay, this was going to require some coordination on their part.

“Of all the things,” he began, before pinching the bridge of his nose. Someone was breaking out the big guns and they weren’t afraid of using it. However, there was a chance they could still wing it thanks to Safir’s ability…

“Alright, Safir, you’re up,” he remarked, tossing out the Moon Ball and watching as a Malamar hit the sand—ready to go.

“Take out the bigger threat… who knows what it’s packing.”

The sight of the Heatran was one thing. But the thunder cat—well, that was more than enough to set Lars off. He remembered how close he’d been to one, only to end up getting denied…

The Malamar’s eyes flashed for a few moments, before a Superpower attack was sent hurtling towards the Heatran.

Malamar used Superpower! Instead of its stats being lowered, its stats are raised due to its ability Contrary!

It seemed like they knew things would get real. While one of them smirked at the sight of the Heatran, Lars wasn't too pleased with this, if the bridge pinching was revealing anything. But at least, they all focused on the Heatran instead of keeping in mind the threat that Zeraora could be.[break][break]

The battle began, the Gengar sliding into the darkness whereas the Malamar was charging forward, using the typical Contrary tactic: Superpower. It also helped that Heatran had a certain weakness to fighting types too, so it was a logical choice. However...[break][break]

A snap of his fingers was enough of a trigger. The Zeraora leaped forward, fists covered in plasma and aiming to stop the Malamar in its track, to take the hit for the Heatran while dishing out his own attack. "Inferno, trap it." The grumpy Heatran grunted before stomping the ground, sending his energy through the sand before a tornado of lava emerged under the Malamar to try and trap it.

gengar tried to attack zeraora with phantom force.

Balder made it clear that this would be no ordinary challenge. Normally, it'd strike him as just bluster. However, he had the attention span to keep up with the battle from every possible angle. It was intimidating, but in a context where that didn't matter. Giona saw fit to speak, only to communicate to his partner. "If he's gonna block with something smaller and weaker, we should show him that that's a bad idea."

He said, looking to the two older men. He whistled, with a note descending. Like someone doing an impression of something falling off a cliff. Gengar rose again, flanking Zeraora, who bravely chose to already take a hit for Heatran. It was an uphill battle; winnable if they concentrated their fire on Zeraora first.

“I agree,” he nodded, before the Malamar’s eyes turned to catch his.

“You know what to do, Safir.”

That was the ‘key’ in his case; all of his own companions knew when they could act without his guidance, and for Safir that was the word.

Even if there was a huge-ass whirl of electric energy headed their way, there was only one thing to do: tank it. And tank it did. It did hurt, but the damage was still passable. For now.

Looking down at the ground there were flames, however he was not going to be made a fool of twice and therefore leapt out of the way at the last second before—

The eyes of the Malamar flashed in the Heatran’s direction, an attempt to Hypnotize it into sleeping.

Malamar tanked the Plasma Fists BUT dodged the incoming Magma Storm, moving to one side before attempting to use Hypnosis on Heatran!

Something smaller and weaker? Heh... Balder smirked. Just as calculated. It seemed like they forgot that Zeraora wasn't just a regular pokemon: it was still mythical in nature, for many reasons. One of them being it's speed being quite high. And thus, as the Gengar emerged from the shadows to try and strike at the cat, all it struck was.. fur flying in the wind.[break][break]

Using its Agility, the cat moved out of the way, ending up behind the duo and keeping them at bay between it and the Heatran. "Feels like you were underestimating my little cat, folks. Hope you don't end up regretting it." And upon these words, both the Zeraora and Heatran roared in unisson.[break][break]

The magma-related Legendary, unaffected by the Hypnosis attempted from the Malamar, stomped the ground once more with its forelegs as it exhaled a massive breath of hot air, forcing a massive Heat Wave towards the opponents. Now, how would they react to this pincer formation?

gengar's ability cursed body went off, giving it a 30% chance to disable heat wave for now. gengar tried to attack zeraora with hypnosis.

Giona saw fit to speak, only to communicate to his partner. "It's gonna get a lot tougher, but it'll get easier eventually. If we hypnotize one of them, I can stall until you come up with something else."

Gengar was struck. Waves of heat and humidity lapped at it, orders of magnitude greater than even the hot sand under it. Thanks to its ability Cursed Body, there was a 30% chance of Heat Wave being disabled for a brief period.

He whistled, with a slow series of notes, like one you'd hear in a mobile installed over a baby's crib. Gengar turned to face Zeraora, and tried to blast it with the dulling, slowing psychic wave called Hypnosis.

“Honestly—they’re both annoying,” he continued as he pinched the bridge of his nose again as another blast of powerful fire came rushing out at their Pokémon.

“We have to pin one of them down.”

Never mind if the Heatran was there just as a blockade—the way that he saw the cat zipping around was more than enough to piss him off, internally at least.

On the outside he kept his cool.

Seeing that the Gengar was going after the cat, Lars decided to go after the cat as well—if one didn’t work, then pincer-ing their target from both sides would work, hopefully? Maybe?

Taking the fire damage from the Heatran, the Malamar’s eyes flashed once more as he whipped around, attempting to catch the Zeraora with a second attempt at Hypnosis.

Malamar tanked the Heat Wave attack, tracking the cat before attempting to use Hypnosis on Zeraora this time!

A joint Hypnosis... Whilst Malamar's attempt was met with failure, it still served as an opening for Gengar to finish the job, making the cat fall asleep. To make matters worse, a cursed aura was floating near Heatran, as if indicating it did get Cursed Body by the opponent, disabling the Heat Wave.[break][break]

Thus, the options were slightly limited. Get rid of the Gengar, or the Malamar... Actually, this wasn't much to be considered for. "Go for it, Inferno." The creature finally moved, deciding to rush forward, aiming to strike Lars' Malamar with Iron Head

dream eater is a move, not unlike giga drain, where the target is hurt and the user is healed. dream eater can only be used on sleeping targets.

Gengar was let off the hook for now. Wounded, sure. The thing that was just a shadow texture with a mean grin somehow looked dried out. It then saw an opening; Zeraora finally fell to hypnosis. To a sleeping spell. Gengar closed the gap, trying to use Dream Eater to heal itself, at the expense of Zeraora.

A bead of sweat rolled down Giona's forehead. It trailed down his nose, and hit the sand. He then smiled at Lars, trying to lie and bluster.

While it failed on one, the efforts of two attacks that contributed to the same effect eventually worked—and one target was taken out; for now.

However there was still the pressing matter of the ‘fire spider’ as Lars called it to himself.

“I’ll have to take the fight to him, then,” was all he said.

“Forward!”

He knew that the Malamar was already injured from earlier, however the chance was there.

So Safir took the attack head-on; grunting through the pain—however this allowed him to get close to the Heatran once again, and unleashed another Superpower attack.

Malamar tanked the Iron Head attack, approaching in the process and using an up-close Superpower!
