Vic was sure that the Dragonite would act as if he didn’t care for his praise, but he gave it nevertheless when seeing the ball paralyze the Riolu, effectively leaving it unable to strike back against them. Then again, it probably wasn’t that great of an idea to praise Pez for constantly punching things as his solution for everything, but surely there’s no way that would come back to bite him later…

Alas, that’s another story for another time. Since here, at this dodgeball game, sadly our dear Pez was about to be left unable to punch anything for some time.

The Orbeetle’s Hypnosis fell on their team as if a curse, taking what seemed like a mere 0.5 seconds for the Dragonite to fall unconscious and plummet down to the ground. Vic himself hadn’t even gotten a chance to get up after catching that last ball, and it took incredible effort for him to fight the grogginess enough to look around him and assess the situation. Pez was down. So was his Arcanine. Most of the team had already been hit. Where was his Dragapult when Vic needed him?

He couldn’t see him, but his gaze did fall on one pokémon who had been there all along, providing helpful and reliable support (just nothing shocking enough to be mentioned in these posts, since we’re building a narrative here). The one pokémon that wasn’t actually a member of his team, but that his dear friend had insisted he should take with him to the tournament. One who, perhaps by choice or perhaps by luck, seemed to have been far back enough in the arena to have avoided the effects of Hypnosis. This pokémon was, of course, no other than leo del río ‘s trusty Bouffalant. Arceus, bless that buffalo.

”Fudges,” he called to the pokémon’s attention, mustering just enough strength to throw the ball straight up in the air. ”Hit it with Giga Impact.”

At this point, the game was lost, but at least they could go out with a bang, no? Make this memorable!

it was a good effort, that much was sure.

[break][break] for perhaps any other match, it would've been the turn of the tide. the tie-breakers among tie-breakers. a truly epic defeat at the hands of some unknown diety.

[break][break] unfortunately, luck was not on Victor Wexler side.

[break][break] jayden watches the light crashes around the bouffalant as it surges up for it's attack. the ball is tossed loftily into the air, and the headbutted with all the force of a Rhydon mother protecting it's offspring.

[break][break] every person and pokemon on jayden's side tenses, terrified, of the impact that is about to come.

[break][break] jayden lifts a hand. "Protect."

[break][break] Nyx's body morphs into an Orbeetle, and along with Klaus, the two insect pokemon buzz forward. A clear shield shimmers in front of them as the spinning dodgeball spirals for them, heat and fire and intent gathering behind the throw.

[break][break] A true act of heroism — if it'd work.

[break][break] The ball spins against the PROTECT, thrown up into the air by the sheer momentum of the attack. His Metagross behind him glimmers with the shine of a new attack, arm cocked back to toss the weapon with equal ferocity back at the team. However...

[break][break] "Psychic." With the power of his Gothorita aiding him, the balls spin is cut short as a light glow surrounds it. It floats into Jayden's palm.

[break][break] He walks over to Vic.

[break][break] Tap.

[break][break] There is a ghost of a smile on Jayden's face, a rare sight for sure.
