This was such a weird—

There were rotating platforms, and a literally crammed-to-the-brim table in the middle of the two rotating platforms that had a lot of glasses.

Only, instead of good ol’ beer pong, all the cups on the table were filled to the brim with—

Tequila.

The rotating platforms were for Pokémon to stand on, and…

“Okay this has got to be the weirdest challenge match I’ve seen so far. Is this some kind of demented tequila pong from hell?” Lars asked as he stared over at the platforms. After getting the explanation that the rotating platforms were for Pokémon, he looked over at who he’d brought with him…

What a time.

Well, he hadn’t had Alpha or Lynette appear not even once in this entire mess, and it was advised that they use humanoid Pokémon as much as possible for the challenge…

He had to dash back to a nearby terminal to swap out the third Pokémon he had as they were advised to have companions that had opposable thumbs, he was back with…

“Well, what an odd party,” he said as he threw out the three—Alpha, Lynette, and Guinevere. A Lucario, a Gardevoir, and a Blaziken.

Turning to face Lynette, he chuckled. “Don’t cheat, okay? Just throw the ball as hard as you can. Pretty sure using Psychic-moves to cheat with the ball isn’t allowed at any rate.”

tequila pong with a twist! three PKMN on rotating platforms each take a turn to throw a ping-pong ball at a center table literally decked out to the edge with shots.

The dead-center of the table (either a 1 or a 100) is a “SECRET INGREDIENT” challenge.

Each glass has a number written on the side corresponding to how many shots one must down. this varies from one to five.

Roll table below:

1 or 100 = “SECRET INGREDIENT” challenge
69 = both challengers take 2 shots

2 to 20 - opponent takes 5 shots
21 to 40 - opponent takes 4 shots
41 to 60 - opponent takes 3 shots
61 to 80 - opponent takes 2 shots
81 to 99 - opponent takes 1 shot

Lowest roll total at the end of the battle wins!

it's only when lars calls out three pokemon that he realizes they might not have to do the throwing themselves. sighing, he calls out three as well, then hands the ping pong ball over to the golduck.

"just sink it in."

It was like the world was conspiring against them both.

Just as his Blaziken moved to toss the ping-pong ball in her hands, a whistle cut across the arena.

“Special rule! Landing on 69 means both challengers have to drink!” the commentator’s voice cut across the silence.

“Wha—” Lars blinked, just before he was about to take the required number of shots from the table. “What the hell?!” he exclaimed as he blinked again.

“Oi, Matias, get over here we both need to take a drink!” he added a few moments later, already holding two shot glasses in his hand.

Such a weird challenge.

Once he was done knocking down both shots, he walked back to the platform and was about to make the Blaziken throw—

However the platform rotated and therefore it was Alpha’s turn to throw the ping-pong ball.

“Do your best,” he said as the Lucario made a face at him, frowning before throwing the ping-pong ball.

golduck only seems to shrug as it watches its trainer cross the distance. similar to their nights drinking together, matias downs both shots, exhaling through the burn.

and then lucario throws, further condemning him to his drunken fate.

"fuck. alright, three more."

“The karma is real,” Lars chuckled, getting off the platform and making a beeline straight for the nearest edge of the table he can reach.

One, two, three.

Nothing like a hard day’s work once the three shots were downed.

“I had an entire bottle to myself before. Two, in fact,” he said with a bit of a smirk crossing his face as he made his way back to the platform, which shifted to the right—and forced his Blaziken up to the bat.

“Well, Guin, your go,” he drawled with a lazy smirk.

The Blaziken took a squint at the table, shaking her head before chucking the ping-pong ball as best as she could. Man, sometimes it sucked having opposable thumbs.

“My idiot brother made me,” he chuckled as he got off the platform to retrieve a ping-pong ball and grab one shot. Ooh, this was getting good.

Once the lone shot was downed, he returned to the spinning platform—only for his Gardevoir to be the one at front and center. The Lucario and the Blaziken were making faces at Lars, but he paid them no mind.

“Lyn, it’s all you,” he said as he gave the ping-pong ball to the Gardevoir, who then made the weakest, most overhanded toss there was.

At the sight of the Jynx on the opposite side of the field, Lars pulled a face for a few moments before his usual deadpan returned.

Lars knows better than to get on the platform at this point (having seen Matias almost take a tumble when he did), so he waited on the side until the ping-pong ball fell and decided his fate.

Walking to the table, he takes two shots from another side edge of the table and slaps the glasses down when he’s done, empty.

While not as bad as the previous drinking spree he took part of during the earlier part of the week, this was starting to hit pretty good.

Shit, what kind of tequila did they use?!

He turned his attention to the platform, and this time it’s Alpha who’s up to the plate again. The Lucario gave him a face before he slapped another ping-pong ball into the jackal Pokémon’s paws.

“Go!”

As the number flashed on the screen keeping track, Lars blinked.

Holy shit, thank the fuck he’d already down two entire bottles of tequila before, otherwise this was going to be a challenge.

Grabbing a ping-pong ball as he went to the table, he stopped for a few moments and took a deep breath.

“Geez, this is nuts,” he said as he eyed the table and took the five closest shot glasses and began knocking them back.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five.

Taking a moment to compose himself (heh) he took another deep breath before pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Alright, you’re up,” he continued as he walked back and was met with the scowling face of his Blaziken, slapping the ping-pong ball into Guinevere’s open hand.

“Really?” was the first thing he said after the Blaziken had made her toss.

If he did his math right, that was another three—

“Can say the same for you!” he added with a chuckle as he grabbed a ping-pong ball on the way to the table, downed the three shots before heading back to the spinning platform—where this time it was Lynette who was up to the bat.

“Go,” was all he said before handing the Gardevoir the white ping-pong ball and she made her toss—

Only the inertia of the platform suddenly spinning and bringing his Lucario up to the plate (after she’d tossed) sent the ping-pong ball off-kilter as it flew through the air.

Unlike Matias who was pawning off the other shots to his Pokémon, Lars was the one downing all the shots he was dealt.

If he did his mental math right, he’d already downed the equivalent of one entire bottle of tequila—this was nothing, to be honest.

The number flashed on the screen.

“Alright, time to face the music again,” he said as he grabbed a new ping-pong ball and grabbed the five closest shot glasses and downed them in succession.

The heat didn’t even bother him at this point.

Returning to the spinning platform, Alpha gave him the dirtiest of looks before chucking the ping-pong ball—right as the platform shifted and brought the Gardevoir back for the next shot to be taken.
