Summer's unforgiving heat saps Cillian's strength, especially with the fading memory of Circhester's comforting chill. He reclines by the pool as their dogs play in the water, sunglasses shielding his eyes from the afternoon glare.[break][break]

One of the dogs notices the bird before he does — scrunching up his nose at the sharp barks, he whistles to silence them.[break][break]

"What's gotten into you lot?"[break][break]

Scowling, he gets up and narrows his eyes at the sight of a Staravia pecking at one of the berry bushes they kept outside for decoration. Clearly its hunger prevails against any fear of Cillian or the canines that eagerly await command.[break][break]

He clicks his tongue, and a ROCK SLIDE drags it to the earth. His Lycanroc retrieves it from the rubble and drops the bird at his feet, grinning jaws dripping pink saliva. A nod is the only praise it receives, but it's sufficient enough.[break][break]

Still alive. Well, he did hear that Rocket needed a Staraptor for something. The required evolution would be a sunk cost, but perhaps it'd be worth it. There was always the Black Market, if not. Decision made, Cillian heads back into the house to retrieve a pokeball before the stunned bird wakes up.

Though his underground hydroponic setup had been necessary in Fallarbor thanks to the thick ashfall, Sootopolis' clear skies allow him to cultivate a few plants on the back porch.

He's heading out to water them, Lotad pail in hand, when he spots the INTRUDER. A spike of white-hot anger surges through him as he sees it nibbling at his Grepa plants.

Shadowed claws tighten around the pail's handle, and purple eclipses the gold of his eyes. A dark aura erupts around him, twisting into lashing tendrils and grasping claws. SHADOW PANIC provokes fear and CONFUSION, and the Dhelmise that emerges from the deep behind its master unleashes a violent SPRINGTIDE STORM to capitalize before the invader can escape.

Thanks to the watertight seal in his Sootopolis basement, the hydroponic setup had not been damaged in the flood. But with the rest of the house being rebuilt from the ground up, it was inconvenient to grow his plants there.[break][break]

He sets them up on the balcony of the Petalburg apartment, instead, his Leafeon curled up in the wicker chair to scare off any adventurous bugs that might wander too close.[break][break]

When Cillian's fighting with the ancient stove, trying to get the bottom left burner to light, he hears the Grass-type trill. Giving up on the stove, he steps outside.[break][break]

"How the hell-"[break][break]

An incredibly determined Granbull has apparently scaled the row of balconies up to the top, and munches now on the plump Grepa harvest. It growls at him upon his approach, possessively clutching its prize. Golden juices stain its massive paws, and drip from its mouth.[break][break]

Cillian whistles loudly, and a streak of black feathers is the only warning before his Shadow Corviknight's talons are sunk deep into Granbull's shoulders, hauling it bodily from the balcony and down to the street below. Cillian doesn't so much as lean over the rail to check if it had landed on its paws.[break][break]

Inside the apartment, the smoke alarm begins to scream.[break][break]

"I hate it here," the underboss mutters, and stomps back inside.
