Unlike a certain someone, Violet loved gambling. But only if it wasn’t done with her own money. In particular, she loved ‘giving luck’ to tipsy men and women and getting them to gamble more than they probably should have had. That was just a lot of fun, just not for the whole family. Yet, as long as it was for her, then that was wholly enough, wasn’t it?
Well, fortunately, hers was the only opinion that mattered. Much like even though there was no need for fancy garment, her dress under the overcoat she wore was quite smooth and fancy indeed. Just because Rocket did dirty work did not mean they could not have style while they did so.

Today, she was here to help field test one of the devices they had made at the boat. Well, she had watched and fetched things for it sometimes. But Vio still considered her contribution important. Someone else was to come over and use it though – and she had used what little influence she had with R&D to ensure that this gal did not yet know that she had an ally at hand. It was too much fun to play with her that way.

Violet did notice the other arriving and starting, after a moderate amount of time pretending to be playing harder than she was. The other grunt was apparently losing. Violet wondered if that was by design, or if the device wasn’t working. “Not your day, eh?”

they wanted to talk.

of course they did. Siobhan lifts her eyes from the machine to look side-ways, not really interested but being forced to interact anyway. the button was unused right now. if this was a Rocket, the girl was woefully inexperienced. you could not rush some things. especially when it was connected with large amounts of cash. tip off the authorities and you would do better to run and hide.

but play it right? look like she had been losing a lot then suddenly gain some ground? then lose again, then gain? it was erratic and hard to track. "I just started" Siobhan informed her idly "I can go a bit longer" that is to say, she just got here. if they were judging by the first few slots, then... well, they weren't very good at this. "see if my luck turns around."

Heh. So that was how the girl wanted to play this? That was good enough, really. Clearly, she had not gotten one of those loser grunts that could not bluff their way out of an old folk’s home. If she hadn’t known to begin with, this certainly would have easily fooled Vio. Then again, she probably would not have cared anyway. Approaching this girl was the slightest bit unnatural for her, but was perfectly fine as far as she was concerned.

“That is how it always starts,” she, well, started. “Thinking that one’s luck will turn around. Then it becomes the stubborn desire to at least get one win before you stop. And before a gal knows, she is in deep with the mob and tries to swindle others for their money. Or try to cheat the machine itself. Fortunately, these are nigh impossible to crack, especially with the new system they installed.”
Because she might as well try to mess with the girl. Cus why not?

feeling more and more uninterested in the ivory haired girl, Siobhan didn't even glance her way anymore. they continued to talk and yap about cheating and winning. she had a job to do, and drawing attention to the machines was not a good start to it.

"it's just a game" Siobhan would say listlessly "if I get deep pockets, or do not" because why did the other care so much? "it is up to fate." she would press the button beneath her palm, rolling a win.

the machines lit up as a few coins were given back to her. she was playing with Rocket money anyway, having a set limit.

Aw, this one was no fun. Not insecure enough to be kicked out of gear by her comments, but not aggressive enough to jump at her interference. It was just kind of…well, not boring, since that was definitely not what to call this, but she did feel a bit dejected. So, Vio simply did what any good person would do and cheat on these machines herself. Activating her own device, she rigged a payout to happen right then and there. A moderate one, sure, but still enough to recoup one’s losses – and potentially get some eyes on them in the process.

“Heh, seems like you bring me luck, dear. I haven’t won this much since I got here. And it seems like you aren’t doing too badly either. Hooray us, I guess.” Clearly, that girl was not interested in conversation. But that just made Vio in spite mode push for it even more.

Siobhan Burke was not one to be rattled easily. it took a lot of prodding and pushing to get her to care about idle chat and childish games. this ivory haired girl was a child in the Galarian's eyes. a little girl who had yet to grow up. games were fun and all, but there was a time and a place.

and this? this was important business. "I see" Siobhan's eyes drift back at the winning alarms. her eyes spy the device the girl wields, marking her as a Rocket - or a run-of-the-mill crook "did you get that button from somewhere special?" she would ask in a low voice. her device remained silent for now. it'd be too suspicious to run two at once.

especially seating next to each other.

“Yes and no,” she replied, not looking at the other but instead pretending to play again. If nothing else, she had mastered the art of talking to someone without needing to constantly look them in the eye. An almost forgotten art in this day and age, really. “It comes from the same place yours does. I assist in R & D, so I am a bit more involved. Though I guess this means that these ones do not interfere with one another, good.”

After all, it would be bad if one trigger activated both devices or something like that. It would still need more testing, of course, but for now, it appeared that these rigged Gacha rolls were fine as they were. A nice little toy for some semi-consistent income. Not like they could use it for big jackpots, anyway.

she was correct. this girl was a Rocket too. if not oblivious about it than some. "I see" Siobhan says again, pushing a button to give some pay out again. it was not a jackpot, but between the two of them - they hadn't made it suspicious. she'd leave before it got to that point.

"good luck" she adds quietly, gathering her small fortune and going to turn it in. if the girl wasn't careful with hitting the button, she'd be arrested by casino authority. Siobhan knew when to take a loss, and two of the same devices so close would only arouse suspicion further. she'd move quietly to the counter on her own merit.

The art of cheating a casino was to break even, as far as she was concerned. Not like she had to earn her keep here, anyway. At the end of the day, she allowed the other to leave, then played a few more rounds anyway until she landed a natural win big enough to recoup her losses. It felt better that way, really. Maybe it was best to not use this device to outright cheat yourself wins, since the biggest wins would likely be investigated. But it could be used to keep playing and not have to run back empty-handed.

Or maybe, the Team would use it completely differently. At the end of the day, she probably would not have a say in this. All she knew was that the device worked on a technical level. Everything else would be up to the operatives in the field. Ones that she felt slightly smugly superior to already, as she left.
Even though she was still a grunt herself.
