Madeleine tossed her scarlet locks over her shoulder. Sprawled across her face was a smile worth its weight in gold. The same couldn't be said for the look behind crimson eyes. A mixture of contempt and feigned love burned confusingly inside her orbs. All for the bright-eyed, bright-haired, dream killer standing opposite her.

All for her daughter.

"Straighten your posture." silky but pointed, Madeleine's voice sliced through the roar of the crowd like a Honedge through flesh. "And smile more. You're in front of the camera, Melody."

Hadn't she taught her better than this?

Lust sauntered onto the sandy arena, her tail swaying as she did. The feline despised battles with a passion. Hated the sand more. It was coarse and rough and got everywhere. Anything for Madeleine, though.

"Do your best. You'd hate for all your fans to walk away from this disappointed, wouldn't you?"

"Yes mother." she replied happily as she did whatever her mother asked without question. She knew everything her mother did was in her best interest so she always obeyed without hesitation. [break][break]
She fixed her posture as she had allowed it to slip and gave the crowd her biggest wave as both fans of her mother and fans of herself were both in attendance of this battle. [break][break]

She waved to the crowd he went wild and blew them all a kiss, just like her mother had taught her to. Without further ado she chose a pokemon specifically for this battle, her furfrou specifically with it's starcut trim. "You can go first mom!" she said giving her mom he first move.

What a disappointing child. Madeleine crossed her arms underneath her bosom. "Better." and yet her tone betrayed the word. She could pick apart Melody's performance all day, but they lacked the time.

"Dogs vs. Cats? How cliche."

"No." she shook her head. "You proceed first, child." they'd gone over this a dozen or more times in training. "They want to see you act, your style - not mine." Madeleine hid her resentment behind a warm, motherly voice.

"Now attack and make it flashy. Dazzle the coward with your beauty and Furfrou's power." and the model would endure. Put up with the disappointment like she always did. Shape it into something better.

Something worthwhile.

"People like cliches for a reason though!" she told her. [break][break]

From years of talking to her mother, she still could not grasp the concept of tone. It was especially apparent during her interactions with Katherine Fairburne . However her mom did bring up a good point, these people were here for her, not her mother. [break][break]

She was going to argue but she knew that there was no point, her mother was right, she was always right! She smiled, maybe her mom just wanted to give her a better chance!

Melody nodded her head understanding what her mother wanted. "Furfrou! Let's give em some charm!" she called out as Melody struck a pose and furfrou followed suit as the crowd roared for melody as the furfrou used the move charm on their opponents and the crowd alike.

She had a point, but pride kept Madeleine's lips sealed tight.

Dear little Melody did as told, striking a pose that left the men swooning and the woman envious. Perfect. Exactly as Madeleine and couches had taught her. Yet despite the flawless execution, the pink-haired idol received no praise.

Only a nod.

Did it mean she'd done great? Horrible? Del left that up for her daughter's tortured psyche to decide.

"Lust," her hand raised to her ear, brushing stray locks of red behind it. "Give that mutt a haircut." Persian hissed before darting across the sand. A hungry predator ready to strike, the feline lunged forward. Claws extended to deliver four Fury Swipes boosted by Technician against the posing pooch.

Her mother was somewhat pleased, she thinks. She had a hard time reading people and no one else was more expressionless than her mother. She drew her own conclusions that if she didn't have anything to criticize it was good![break][break]

Just like that, the battle was underway if she could even really call it that. Melody was told what to do this match and she would do just as she was asked. "Furfrou! she called out doing a small little spin and striking a pose "Cotton guard!"[break][break]

furfrou's fur fluffed up to bolster it's already high defensive nature due to it's ability fur coat. However Melody was familiar with this persian and knew her mother poured everything she had into her care. [break][break]

If only her mother put that same level of care into the family's herdier, maybe he wouldn't be such a brat. She gripped Herdier's pokeball behind her lovingly.

Much like her cat, Madeleine is a predator whose senses are keen. The second those delicate hands of Melody's slipped behind her back, she noticed.

"Hands up front."

Perhaps it was time to break out the Hypno again? Apply a bit of subtle suggestion to smooth out those ugly edges that kept showing themselves. How long had it been since she'd done it last? A few years, maybe.

Too long.

"Taunt, my precious kitten." she cooed.

Lust hissed, fine fur standing on end while her claws dug into the sand she hated so much. The sway of her tail from behind acted like a lure beckoning the Furfrou to act.

Her hands immediately moved forward upon even hearing her mother speak. She knew her mother's rules and hands were to remain where her mother could see them, always. [break][break]

"Furfrou! Take-Down!" she calls out swinging her hand out dramatically with a flourish as practiced once more. Furfrou charged forward still puffed up from the cotton guard fully intending to slam it's whole body into liepard knowing full will it would still take some recoil damage from the move.

Furfrou and Persian collide in a pained collision. The feline skidded backward, nails digging into the sand to keep itself balanced.

She'd mentioned how much she hated battles hadn't she?

Vision narrowed to slits at her opponent. This disgusting mutt with the buttplug tail. Lust hissed. If losing weren't the goal, she'd ripped that tail off and shove it -

"Play a little rougher. It's fine. Our princess and her loyal dog can handle it." Del looked to her daughter expectedly. "Isn't that right?"

Persian bound forward, head lowered to slam against the underside of Furfrou's jaw.

"I'm always ready for a battle!" she told her mother cheerily as she was finally getting into the battle and furfrou seemed just as eager as her trainer. However the Persian went for a much rougher move and furfrou took the brunt of the attack. due to melody becoming momentarily distracted. [break][break]

Was she going off script? Melody couldn't remember this part of the battle, it was a blur so she improvised on the fly "Furfrou! Sucker punch!" she called out as Furfrou rushed towards liepard preparing to strike quickly before Persian could attack should it try to retaliate.

Sucker Punch finds it mark without issue. Lust reeled back from the blow. Another sharp hiss escaped from her pursed lips. Waves of anger ran through the Persian's body like static. Her fur fluffed, looking like a troll doll on a bad hair day. Ugly and unrefined.

She'd kill this mutt. Sink her fangs into his neck and skin him with her claws. A guttural growl rolled from the base of her throat. Persian lowered to the ground, ready to pounce and kill.

"Lust." ignoring her daughter, Del shot the pussycat a pointed glare. "Remember your role." a dominating voice brought the seething feline into submission. Madeleine smiled, "Good girl."

Crimson hues drift to her daughter. "Pay Day." coins, glimmering golden coins launched from nowhere and at the Furfrou. Packing all the force of a bullet fired from a gun.

While melody liked all cats, the ones her mother raised always sent a shiver down her spine when they began to hiss or growl. She didn't know why though. The furfrou however began to bark incessantly at it "Furfrou cmon! Behave yourself!" she said as the dog turned around and sat down and wagged it's tail, eager to attack back. [break][break]

The payday launched with an intense power and collided with furfrou's thick strong coat softening the "bullets" to become not be lethal but still cause some strong damage, like rubber bullets."Furfrou! Retaliate!" she ordered as Furfrou let out a menacing bark and charged over at the Persian, it's body becoming in a dark type aura that acted as a solid force as he collided with the cat.

Ouch.

That Retaliate really hurt.

Lust slammed against the sand, acting as though it had taken more damage than it really had. "So powerful, Melody, my dear." the crowd roared, and Del smiled proudly. "I'm impressed." she wasn't.

Persian lifted from the ground, taking ragged breaths. "Again." Madeleine ordered both her possessions.

Melody hesitated for a moment, was it a good idea to keep going? The hesitation was blatant on her face and obvious to her mother most likely. "Furfrou! D-double edge!" she ordered as she wanted to end the battle as quickly as possible. She didn't want the persian to battle if it was obvious that it shouldn't continue like this but she knew the show had to go on. [break][break]

The cruelest part of all? Melody believed persian's performance was genuine and it caused her to worry for it's well being.
