Another underwater match?

How could he say no.

This was a new format on top of that. Rather than two pokemon versus two pokemon each with their own trainer it was going to be three pokemon versus three with only two trainers in the battle.

'a Submerged Triple' he heard one of the staff say as they handed him his diving gear and air tank.

He didn't know who he was matched against as he swam into the battle area.

He just know he was here for a good time.

Mars hadn’t really expected that, but he was not opposed. He had always enjoyed diving, and the idea of seeing an underwater battle from beneath the surface instead of catching glimpses from above was just too good to pass up.

The only problem though? They couldn’t chat during the battle, and Mars sure loved to chat.

Guess he would just have to deal with it, huh?

After making sure all of his gear was working just fine, he jumped in, bringing out four pokéballs instead of three.

After all, if they were going to be underwater for a whole battle, he might as well just chill on his Wailmer’s back while all this went on. And that’s exactly what he did while watching his other pokémon take their positions.

Naturally, he also waved at the other trainer, waiting for the battle to begin.

The seemingly friendly nature of his opponent was infectious.

He'd had so much doing one of these submerged battles with a partner. The concept so was cool even with an opponent it felt like they sharing an incredible moment.

Still, he was here for a win so he called his team forward.

It was unorthodox as hell, but there was something he wanted to try. Giving the other trainer the signal to go he made a thumbs up gesture over their long distance.

Usually, people would go for water type pokémon or at least water-dwelling ones when fighting an underwater bout, but apparently his opponent liked to march at the beat of his own drum, and Mars could respect that.

The other man gave him a thumbs up, which he could only assume was a signal to begin, Mars nodding at his pokémon so they would do their thing.

The Milotic started things off with a RAIN DANCE, summoning a downpour upon the surface. Apparently, its effects worked underwater as well, so why not take advantage of it, right?

The Sharpedo was more for direct attacks, and thus she launched towards the Kadabra with POISON FANG.
[break][break]
And the Inkay? The Inkay was kind of a sneaky bastard, so he made the veil of HYPNOSIS fall upon their opponents. Although, granted, it could end up affecting one of his own teammates.

Oh well, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there, won’t we?

In terms of strategy he'd gotten this idea during his last submerged battle.

It was little risky but if the types matched in his favor and he worked fast he could pull off a strange win.

It seemed in this match shit could still hit the fan depending on the moves those opposing pokémon knew.

Shedinja didn't need to breathe but Kadabra could only hold his breath for so long.

Better to play it safe for now. He wanted the Sharpedo out first but the Inkay was as much a threat while being far more vulnerable with both Psychic and Dark types being vulnerable to...

Kadabra took the biting attack in stride, taking the opportunity to cancel the rainy weather in favor of something more beneficial to their side.

Woah, that was a lot of attacks for one sweet little Inkay who did nothing wrong!

He panicked for a moment, thinking this would be his end, but thankfully for him, Milotic was nice and versatile and also an agile swimmer! She protected the tiny squid’s body with her own, taking some damage from the couple of FURY CUTTERS but countering the attack by sending a TWISTER towards the mean bugs.

As for the Sharpedo, her fangs left their poisonous mark, but apparently she wasn’t done with the Kadabra just yet, because she headed for it once more, beginning to THRASH. She was even faster this time around, her SPEED BOOST ever helpful to her bloodthirst.

Guess we now know what she’d be doing for the next two to three turns, huh?

For now, the Inkay was too busy hiding behind the Milotic to attack.

TWISTER whipped up the water and send the deadbugs away.

But while Milotic protected Inkay, no one protected Sharpedo.

If they were going to be here a while, ~~bring a snickers~~ Kadabra would grab hold of the attacking fish making it easier for its teammates to strike.

No one was protecting the Sharpedo, and it sure was weak to bug type attacks, but she kept on THRASHING the Kadabra despite the damage caused by the FURY CUTTERS. She was relentless, a woman on a mission, and that mission was to fight.

Thankfully for her, she had a support team on this mission of hers, and the Milotic was quick to send a LIFE DEW her way – providing some healing for both herself and the allies around her.

The Inkay peeked from behind the Milotic this time, gaze fixed on the Kadabra as it sent a PSYBEAM his way. It wouldn’t be all that effective, but maybe it would confuse him or something! Hey, the little squid was trying, okay?

Everyone had a plan until they got punched in the face.

But there was a lesson there; don't panic from a punch. Stick to the plan. Sharpedo wouldn't back down and neither would anyone else.

Kadabra was being damaged more than he could heal not to mention he was still holding his breath but he trusted Sénon, so he kept at it, usually himself as a piece of meat for the sharpedo to focus on.

Leaving it to be hit with amassing amounts of damage that a LIFE DEW couldn't compensate for.

The Sharpedo wasn’t going to last much longer, that would have been obvious to anyone watching the fight. FURY CUTTER dug through her skin, causing almost too much harm for her to stand. A second LIFE DEW came to her aid, sure, but how much would that really help? If the pokémon here had had health bars, hers would have probably been at 1 HP and in red as she continued to THRASH the Kadabra (because this battle won’t last too long if all the pokémon die right away).

As for the little Inkay, for now, he continued to watch the battle from behind the Milotic, waiting.

And Mars? Mars was enjoying the show.

The nice thing about having a Kadabra in battle was that it could feed your orders to your team with ultimate discretion.

That came in handy when you had to battle without even talking to your pokémon.

Usually he had to rely on hand and body gestures to communicate non-vocally but the Psi Pokémon on his side bridged that gap perfectly.

On Sénon's orders the pokemon each moved with precision.

The damage of eight FURY CUTTER hit the sharpedo at once freeing the bleeding Kadabra who then used a TELEPORT to position the trio behind the Milotic and behind the Inkay.

The remaining ghostbug cut at the Inkay looking to remove it from the battle in one attack. From the Ranger's calculations it was simple math.

FURY CUTTER had finally succeeded at landing a hit so powerful that nothing, not even the Sharpedo’s own resilience or the aid of the ever-helpful Milotic, could stop it on its path of destruction.

The Inkay…

Honestly, the calculations were pretty accurate and the Inkay was about to face the same fate, but there was one last thing it had to do before its end.

Sharing is caring, and if there’s one thing Mars has taught him well, its that if he finds himself facing an overwhelming attack, there’s a single thing he should always do no matter what: DESTINY BOND the S.O.B who just did that!

In this household, we always share, and FAINTS are included in that.
[break][break]
But, yes, the Inkay was now gone, as was the Sharpedo, leaving the Milotic all alone to send a TWISTER towards the weakened Kadabra.

Even a brilliant plan could be pushed to its limits by some solid fundamentals from the other team.

The other guy had a few things working against him but just as he'd lost two pokémon, no sooner than he had his opponent lost two of his own.

Dinja fainted!

A pesky DESTINY BOND took out one of his Shedinja and Tsukuyomi had reached his limit on holding his breath. Before fainting he tried to strengthen the SUNNY DAY in play but was losing consciousness. The ranger returned him to his pokéball seconds before he began to drown.

Tsukuyomi fainted!

Gan was an old ditto captured by Sénon in his hometown nearly two decades ago. 'He' was the most experienced pokémon the ranger had, and it showed.

Not missing a beat D!Shedinja continued the attack in the spirit of his fallen teammates.

Mars’ Inkay was quickly becoming one of his favourite among his pokémon, because it sure was a little bastard of an Inkay. It was almost a shame to have to call him back to his pokéball, except every time it happened, he had taken down an opponent with him.

Revenge is a dish best served cold, and it sure was cool in the waters of Slateport’s shore.
[break][break]
And speaking of revenge…
[break][break]
With only one pokémon out of three left on each side, surely no one would have been surprised to hear that they were both out for blood.
[break][break]
The problem, however, was this: Milotic had stayed relatively safe during this match, and while she herself was not particularly weak to Bug Type attacks, a x16 FURY CUTTER was nothing to laugh at. That’s what? 640 damage or something?

Yeah, not even a last minute RECOVER could save her from that, and the Milotic fainted just as her teammates had, marking the end of the match.

From the distance, Mars gave his opponent a thumbs up.
