Gavin thinks their last conversation didn't quite get through to the other. He was too coy, too confident. If he wasn't careful, he could end up hurt.

So Liam King shakes hands with his left, lets him feel the scar, lets him see the sharp-edged smile of Gavin Merlino before they take their respective sides of the field. And rather than sending out the Pokemon he'd planned to use for this match, he takes out one of his shadows. She's not one that the League can use to identify him.

Drool leaks from Psellia's open mouth.

"First move's all yours."

Give him the advantage before he crushes him.

Ah, so this was going to be an utter thrashing. He supposes that he's seen this coming for the longest time. Malice is met with mischief, nerves dispelled by careful mental preparation as he taps once, then twice upon his pokeball.

An Archeops appears in a flash of light, somewhat disturbed by the presence of the Breloom but more than certain of his duty. Gavin wishes to assert his dominance and show what power he holds but he seems to be going about it in the wrong manner. That is, when it comes to Ryuuzaki at the very least. Till death will they stand and fight, unafraid of the afterlife or the fate that awaits them - Such a mindset has been hammered into his head ever since he's joined Rocket and oh, will he continue to cling to such beliefs.

The purplish flames of dragon's breath lick at the fungal boxer's heels but Psellia does not fight back. She doesn't seem to be doing anything more than drooling, head tipping to one side before she sucks the TOXIC spit back into her mouth.

It's a CORROSIVE concoction that manages to POISON her despite her rare tertiary typing. It would HEAL her, too, the burns left by the Archeops' flames shimmering softly as fungal flesh mends.

Though sunglasses shade them, perhaps ryuuzaki amemiya would feel the weight of Gavin's eyes upon him.

So she heals herself by ingesting poison. The more he considers the various factors surrounding this matchup, the more he's certain that they're headed for doom. Even then, carrying a Defeatist's mental isn't his job, a simple breath in and out allowing him to shake off the pressure that Gavin attempts to exert.

If he's to crumble in the face of his own higher-ups, how is he meant to hold his ground against the top rangers and leaders of the League? An assassin has no need for fear, only a sense of caution that ensures that he keeps his head for yet another day.

He calls out to the Archeops with a sharp whistle - Keep some distance and continue to attack. And Noiz does so with a knowing flicker of his gaze, his wings flapping in the wind as he unleashes yet another Dragon Breath.

Thing is, it's not for himself that Gavin wants ryuuzaki amemiya to fear.

Another hiss of dragon breath wreathes his Breloom but Gavin appears unconcerned. Burns reform and once again begin to fade beneath the poison's healing influence. It's not enough to keep her at full health, but it's enough to stall.

That's what she's built for.

Psellia reels back and spits, a glob of that same TOXIC spit lobbed at her foe.

If Ryuuzaki has never had the real words to explain his dislike for shadow pokemon, he sure as hell can see them in his mind right now. The way that the Breloom seems to dissociate from reality, the way that she simply exists to be a dangerous puppet.

Her toxic spit is avoided with premptive warning provided by a whistle, the Archeops showing off his Agility with the feat. Noiz may be resistant to poison but the more that he cumulates in his system, the harsher this thrashing will get.

Gavin's not bothered when the Archeops uses its energy to dodge; it only affords more time for the POISON coursing through Psellia's system to HEAL her burns.

She sways on the spot, eyeing the bird but seemingly choosing not to act.

In reality, she's READING IT'S MIND to predict a pattern of movements for what she'll do next.

Despite her stillness, Ryuuzaki is more than certain that the Breloom has a few tricks up her sleeves. In such cases, they're forced to show their hand and strike while they have the chance. It's a corner that they've backed themselves into, after all.

Without even so much as a hand signal, Noiz begins to grasp at random stones and small boulders from his surroundings, hurling them right at the (obviously) weeded-up mushroom. The thought is as stupid as the grin on his face, a lazy fingergun pointed in Gavin's direction as he leans back.

Gavin might've laughed if he wasn't taking this all so seriously. Instead, he cants his head and looks almost disappointed.

A click of his tongue grants Psellia instruction.

As the rocks are hurled in her direction, the toxic drool dripping from her maw is sucked back and once again lobbed toward the Archeops. Having studied its patterns beforehand, this time it was sure to find its mark.

She stumbles as a rock strikes her in the side, then shambles back.

That look of disappointment really isn't anything new. In fact, Ryuuzaki suspects that if he didn't have to seem approachable, Gavin would probably have an eternal scowl plastered on his face.

The toxin hits its mark, a yowl tearing from Archeops as he tries his best to shake as much of the poison off as he can. With this, they're on a tight schedule and it's only a matter of time before he collapses.

Ryuuzaki whistles and Noiz chatters back, unleashing yet another Dragon Breath at the Breloom. Even if she may heal her burns once more, it's the illusion of getting somewhere that keeps the Defeatist going.

Toxins seep into Archeops' system and Psellia seems to show the first sign of life beyond its shambling; the fungal boxer's mouth twists into an approximation of a grin as it continues to drool.

Its spirits don't seem dampened by the flames that lick its hide.

With Archeops still airborne, it seems as if they'll be forced to stay on the ground and wait out the fight... but the Breloom suddenly runs forward and lauches itself SKYWARD with a vicious UPPERCUT.

Even in the face of certain defeat, Ryuuzaki's calm demeanour never once falters, a whistle informing Noiz of what must be done. If Gavin wishes to send them a message, they must simply smoothen their brain to ensure that the words slide right off.

As Psellia leaps at the Archeops, he mimics her twisted smile with a smirk of his own, sweeping himself upwards as the Breloom gets just within reach. And as she lands her uppercut, he's tearing her flight with a merciless Dragon Claw to the face, seeking to reinstate gravity's shackles once more.

Like some kind of twisted ACIDIC ARMOUR, the toxic drool shimmers and hardens across delicate fungal flesh. It dampens the severity of the blow, though Psellia's still slammed straight back to earth with the force of the prehistoric Pokemon's claws.

Her POISON HEAL continues to work its magic but her wounds are beginning to pile up in spite of it.

Neither Pokemon nor trainer seem deterred.

She was a staller, after all, and each passing second meant that the poisons coursing through Noiz' veins was growing steadily harder to bear.

Though Noiz is successful in deterring his opponent, the same can't be said for the poison running through his veins. The Archeops is silent about it, but Ryuuzaki catches the signal way quicker than usual - The way he splays his talons as if prepping for yet another clawing; It's a sign that the battle's beginning to take a toll on him and he wants to tap out.

If so, there's no point in forcing the poor avian to continue with this farce any longer. Sure enough, the Archeops is recalled in a flash of red, a light smile tinting Ryuuzaki's lips as he tucks the pokeball away.

"I'll give this one. Noiz needs to be tended to as soon as possible."

Unfortunately for Gavin, he holds no authority on these battlefields. He can't quite force them into battling to the end, neither can he have Psellia attempt to poison him in public. A real unfortunate set of circumstances, but Ryuuzaki is sure that Gavin will eventually find a way to have the last laugh.

After all, petty people can hold grudges better than anyone else can.
