matias can't remember the captain's surname otherwise he would've returned the greeting in kind. instead, he gives the captain a good pat on the back as he approaches as well.

"i'm not too sure about that. just been making the rounds trying to battle as many people as i can."

too many people, some would argue.

"Had an unfortunate early encounter with kyle lopez. Been trying to play catch up since." The youth responded dryly, somewhat surprised to hear Matias was going at it hard on purpose in the tourney. "What about'cha, going so hard at it? trynna impress a lady or something?"

Either way, he didn't doubt he would see the man in the top of the leaderboards by the end of the tourney. He was one of his most impressive challengers to memory.

"Still surprised we didn't see each other until now! The tournament organizers sure have a funny sense of timing!" Waiting until the last day to make them meet, and then putting them together in a tag battle?

They had no mercy on whoever was unfortunate enough to be their opponent!

but to be fair the snorlax was just really lazy...

at doug's words, matias laughs, shaking his head because he knows Eva Morales isn't the type to particularly care about his win/lose record. she'd be proud, sure, but that's about where it ends.

"nah, nah. i'm just excited to see the talent hoenn has to offer."

and there is a lot of talent.

"surprised as well! at least we're not facing off against each other this time."

because they know how the last time went...

"Yeah, really lucky for ya! I would've destroyed ya this time!" The youth replied cheekily, winking at the man playfully. "Ollante and Kimono have been raring up for a rematch."

They had trained quite hard since then, despite neither really caring much for battling before... He supposed a bruised ego could do that.

Nodding at Matias, he turned on his heel to face their opponents, a pair of faceless NPCs all the way on the other side of the field.

"Sure am! Let's have at'em!" The youth said as he swung his arm, a netball slipping out of his sleeve and into his palm before growing to full size. "Gggooo Guwa!"

Baseball pitching the netball, it flow fast across the air before releasing a Pinsir on to the field, the pokemon spinning before landing atop the soil, feet grinding across it before it reeled back and roared dramatically for the audience.

Yeah, they had rehearsed that. Dramatics were important, after all!

[attr="class","matias"]these poor faceless npcs won't know what hit them.

at pinsir's entrance, the crowd roars, bursting with applause for the young gym leader.

matias doesn't think he could ever live up to that so he doesn't bother with the dramatics. he simply tosses open a pokeball to reveal a dragonair.

"we got this, doug."

their opponents are a houndoom and a scizor; both johto pokemon.

Doug adores Scizor, but the unfortunate implications do not go beyond him as he narrows his eyes at the enemy with unnecessary amounts of national pride.

"Darn tootin' we do!" Doug said as he swept one arm across the air and grasped with cap with the other, his coat flaring behind him. "Let's go Matias, Guwa! Let's show'em how we do it!"

Reeling back to roar once again, the Pinsir's fist raised high in the air before it brought them crashing down upon the earth, nearly throwing all of the trainers on their asses as the earth beneath him cracked and splintered.

Spiderweb cracks spread broadly before stone and dirt upheaved violently, throwing around their opponents. The Scizor's wings flapped once to right its balance, before it suddenly launched forth towards the Dragonair in an acrobatic maneuver!

the battle splits into two. dragonair's THUNDER WAVE surges, stopping the scizor even before it has a chance to deliver an ACROBATICS. dragonair snakes forward, keen on gaining the advantage.

houndoom braces through the EARTHQUAKE only to return a FIRE BLAST that soars straight for the pinsir.

The Scizor is zapped out of the air midway through its acrobatics, crashing down unto the cracked soil before quickly attempting to push off into another attack.

It's movements and reaction speed are sluggish however, the electricity still coursing through his system, and his bullet punches come out tardy and easily seen through.

"Nope, us first!" Doug said with a broad grin as he swept his arm, his Pinsir raising both arms in the air to frame its horns before a ball of fire suddenly came to life between them, blasting forth a massive surge of fire to counter the Houndoom's own.

The blazes crashed against each other in a massive conflagration, the cracked earth burning down to sizzling sludge and cinders, before detonating in a large fireball that brought the room temperature up by several degrees!

[attr="class","matias"]matias doesn't bother raising an arm to shield himself against the brightness of the large fireball. he narrows his eyes, looking away for moments before returning to the battle.

the BULLET PUNCH is slow, predictable, and dragonair ends up slipping underneath it only to throw an AQUA TAIL into scizor's body, slapping it away.

houndoom, enraged by the resistance, is quick to close the distance before lunging at the pinsir to chomp its THUNDER FANGS into the bug-type.

The Scizor was slapped back by the Aqua tail, bouncing along the melted floors before it managed to recover and leapt several feet back.

Its arms rubbed over its stomach, eyes narrowing at its opponent as it lowered its stance and spread open its pincers, wings flapping wildly behind it as it stood over the melted earth.

Pinsir and Doug were both blinded by the massive fireball, forced to look away for a brief moment. The Houndoom however, gave no f*cks about the fireball, running into it as exploded, its body absorbing the heat around it.

It leapt out of the fireball right as the Pinsir managed to get its sights back towards it, clamping fangs and lightning around the bug type and drawing a roar of pain out of the bug.

"Storm Throw! Get it off ya!" Ordered Doug sharply as his own gaze returned, his Pinsir heeding immediately as it clamped its hands around the Houndoom's jaws and tried to pry it off, before swinging the hound wildly in a flurry of spins and chucking it across the arena!

[attr="class","matias"]THUNDER FANGS sink into pinsir, latching on with killer intent before pinsir starts wildly spinning. flames engulf the houndoom and the moment it's flung off by STORM THROW, a FIRE BLAST shoots straight for the pinsir, not giving it a moment to recover.

the LASER FOCUS is recognized but matias does nothing against it.

"just take it."

they've taken worse.

dragonair whips her AQUA TAIL at the scizor again.

The Scizor's eyes flash dangerously as the Aqua tail comes sailing at it, its pincer shooting out to try and catch the attack before it attempting to swing the dragonair into the burning earth beneath its feet!

The Pinsir crossed its arms before itself as the fire blast striked it, a massive fire ball rising around it and drawing a pained, furious roar out of the Pinsir, its feet stomping the floors and sending large chunks of sharpened soaring towards the airborne hound.

[attr="class","matias"]dragonair takes the COUNTER, shrugs most of it off, and returns with the same, reliable AQUA TAIL. why change what works?

STONE EDGE smacks against houndoom, sending it airborne. in a somewhat complicated maneuver, houndoom turns in the air and starts spewing a FLAMETHROWER towards the sky, which propels it back down towards the pinsir.
