She….she had made it. Somehow. Truth be told, Megan had heard of the tournament before, but going on a trek through the Badlands had waylaid her for quite a bit. And once she had returned to civilization, it had apparently already started! Rushing herself like crazy, she had barely made it in, her registration almost being voided for being so late.

And yet, it had taken a few minutes for them to find her an opponent. At least one. Meg wanted to not completely miss this tournament at all! Not after earning her first badge. Hence, she ran to the venue as fast as she could, barely making it in time to find a woman already standing there, ball in hand. “Hey…..hah…..I hope I am not….too late,” she started, barely being able to catch her breath and thus panting.

"Just in the nick of time actually!" she said waving to the young girl who seemed to be rather out of breath. "You good?" she asked worriedly for the girl, she couldn't have someone throwing up on her lest melody begin to gag as well. [break][break]

Phew. In the nick of time. That was good enough. Meant that she could take a few moments to just…breathe…yes, that was a good idea. Slow and steady. She got back into it soon enough and, somewhat shakily, got back into a proper stance.

“Yeah, I am fine. Totally! And one on one is fine! Let’s do this!” Switching gears into combat mode, she already seemed pretty fired up then and there. She had to be. If she wanted to win against anyone here, she needed to do her best. Even if she had to turn on her body’s emergency generators. And a heaping dose of something sugary she had just basically inhaled while running here. That got her both hyped and tired. Hypered?

Oh no. A bug. Megan immediately reached for Arcanine’s ball and sent him out. Yeah, she had brushed up on her bug knowledge after her match with the eponymous bug leader. “Oh. Doug. Yes. That one,” she replied, too, making it fairly evident that she had fought him as well.

Though the difference was, she had not lost. And that had been without Arcanine. That one was not at all intimidated by the Kricketune’s antics, but instead let out an intimidating aura of its own. “Well then, let’s waste no time, Flare Blitz!”

YOUCH! A fire type and a close ranged fighter at that! This was gonna be a close fight, she could already tell. But in a pinch is where an artist truely shined! "Kricketune! Blast him with a bug buzz!" she ordered as kricketune blasted a wall of sound waves towards the arcanine to at least do some damage. [break][break]

Regardless though, sound can only do so much and the arcanine still makes contact with the frail bug.

If she had learned anything in her fight with that guy it was that she did not have to hold back with bugs – and that she should destroy them as quickly as possible. Hence, Arcanine was taking the Bugg Buzz like a champ, and instead sought to burn and damage the Kricketune, having rushed into it at full speed.

“Good, don’t let it escape now! Flame Wheel!” Her order was obeyed and Arcanine flared up sending a wheel of fire around the two of them that hopefully, that thing could not escape easily at all. They would keep this up close and personal, finishing as quickly as possible!

Both fire attacks slam into the kricketune as Melody had expected, kricketune had to do something quickly to make sure that it didn't quickly run him over. Melody then doled out her orders [break][break]

"Kricketune! Use Night slash!" as Kricketune vanishes for a moment and then reappears in front of the Pokémon delivering a critical strike on Arcanine and hoping that'd teach him a lesson about getting so close!

Yes, yes a lesson. A lesson that it had already learned, that much was for certain. Arcanine took the night slash, wincing, but still standing – and retaliated by crunching down on the bug that so foolishly had positioned itself right in front of it. A walking buffet, one could say.

There would be no mercy and no relent until the bug was down. That was how she had been taught to handle these things. “It is quite sturdy, despite how it looks,” Megan commented, though quite intently focused on the battle in the flames.

The battle was certainly heating up and Melody was in QUITE the pinch. She had to start getting creative and SOON or else she might not be able to recover "Kricketune! Sing!" she ordered as Kricketune began to use it's viola arms to creating a peaceful lullaby and attempt to lure arcanine to sleep.

Sing. Huh? That was….unconventional. Who sung a lullaby in the middle of a ring of fire? No one could be that calm. And no Pokemon could just fall asleep during that, especially after just having been slashed and after….what?

“Uh, Arcanine?” Megan tried to wake it, but the Fire type had just decided to lay low for a moment and doze. Granted, she wanted to do precisely that as well, but at the very least, Megan still somehow managed to stay awake. Arcanine on the other hand just…stayed asleep.

Melody let out a sigh of relief that the sing actually worked "Maybe he felt at home surrounded by fire? Fires could be cozy.." but in the middle of a sweltering summer heat? Well regardless the stroke of luck worked in her favor and Melody was going to take full advantage, due to all of the fire attacks nailing kricketune it's swarm ability activated and Melody called out her next move. But still! It was a bit bad in a situation like that. And especially so given that, well, it was still not waking up.

Even after being hit by X-scissor. “Ugh, really? No, this can’t be!” Despite her outcry, Arcanine was still soundly asleep, even as it was losing hitpoints all over the place. Really, that was how the battle she had rushed so hard to get to would end? With a single sing just putting her Pokemon to sleep forever?
