it was a day like any other, she supposed. another chance at life, another chance at potential... of course, this day was slightly different. she had acquired a new Pokémon - yes that was not so different - but she had more or less rescued this one.

a stranger to the Black Market Siobhan was. she had chanced going there one day, spotting a beaten down looking feline in the depths of one cage. though she had sold many Pokemon to the establishment, she hadn't the chance to buy. having some spare funds, she was drawn to the kitten. she wasn't sure why she picked him.

cleaning his fur revealed he was a shiny variation. but that wasn't what mattered to her. Siobhan was instantly drawn to the little Litten. she hadn't felt so close to another Pokémon since Lorelai and Poe. the woman would carry on the kitten in her arms, going to Petalburg City. she would sit at a bench near the northern pool of water.

setting the apprehensive cat on her lap, Siobhan began to clean him again. he needed some extra care, that much was certain. though he bit her fingers and swiped a few times, she seemed unbothered. patiently continuing on, she'd weave the small brush through his fur until he was still.

Petalburg City was only a frequent stop in the sense that he passed through it often to get elsewhere. The term 'city' hardly applied to it, as far as he was concerned. There wasn't much to do in the quiet, seaside community. Certainly nothing that tickled his fancy.[break][break]

Even so, for the first time in a while, he found reason to venture south from his home near Rustboro and make Petalburg his destination. The reason for this visit was strapped to his back in a cushioned, translucent backpack-case. The very same he'd used to transport a stranger's Pokémon egg with Raziel Beckett some time ago.[break][break]

Though now it carried one of his own.

After having found this Pokémon egg on the grounds of his estate, Remiel had been unable to hire an expert in egg-keeping to come visit him at his abode. So he'd come to pay a visit to the daycare woman who had commissioned him before instead. Dressed in casual clothing, the royal strolled down the main street— then stopped at the sight of striking blue hair.[break][break]

"Siobhan?" His curious voice inquired, approaching closer to the lakeside bench from behind. "You have business here as well?"[break]

she gave a soft start, her eyes unglazing from looking across the water. it was when the Litten gave a sharp hiss did she really wake up. the kitten dug his claws into her chest, the fur along his spine spiking. apparently he was not socialized; which was to be expected. he did come from a lonely cage.

she'd place a hand on his tiny skull to calm. "no" she replies to Remiel "just passing through" the brush was placed to the side of the bench as she glanced over her shoulder at him. she didn't notice the egg, for it was on his back, but he was carrying something there. "you have business here?" she responds.

Cobalt blue eyes narrow slightly in response to the alarmed Litten. Remiel was no stranger to cats. His sister Sabine had taken a liking to them at a young age. Calcifet Palace had housed its fair share of strays and blue ribbon breeds alike. The royal could really only stand the latter; the well-behaved among them.[break][break]

Even so, Siobhan's effort to calm the kitten's temper was enough to soften his expression once more. He tilted his shoulder to the side to show her the egg encased within his translucent backpack. "Of a particular variety, yes."[break][break]

"forgive him" she notices the squint of Remiel's eyes "Cheshire was in a cage for a long time" how long was uncertain; even Black Market dealers didn't sell baby Pokemon. they had to wait until the kitten was of a particular age. "he is not used to other people."

hell, he was not really used to her yet. she raises a hand, ungloved, to reveal the bite and scratch marks. the Litten looks briefly ashamed, turning his head away. Remiel reveals why he was here, gesturing to the Egg he carried. "I see" Siobhan responds "then you must be busy." perhaps meeting someone else or having business with the Egg in particular.

too busy to talk to her for long.

He wonders if that was anything more than a thinly veiled shooing away. If so, the royal found himself strangely determined to defy it. It hadn't occurred to him until now, after all, that she might be sitting solemnly alone for a negative reason.[break][break]

"I've arrived early. The daycare hasn't opened yet." He casually lies, gently removing the egg case from his back before taking a seat at the end of the bench and holding it onto his lap. For a moment, the egg therein appears to shake... although it's difficult to tell with the light jostle of Remiel's movement.[break][break]

Turning towards the blue-haired female and the kitten she hold, he raises a curious brow. "You're rehabilitating this one, then? Do you make this sort of thing a habit?" He inquiries.[break]

he sits down.

Siobhan slightly squints her eyes, wondering if he was telling the truth. she was giving him an out if he really was busy, with no obligation to speak to her. but he seemed almost defiant when he took his seat. "I see." was all she said to that.

raising a hand, she'd brush back a strand of blue hair. "I always have." from Poe, her Corviknight, being found with his wing broken in the woods to Cheshire, the Black Market kitten. even Lorelai the Whimsicott was a rescue.

"they seem to find me; whether they want to or not" Siobhan remarks "so I take them in. I heal them. then let them go if they want." but most of the time they remained. Cheshire kneads against her chest and begins

to make himself comfortable.

There's a brightness in his eyes as she explains her relationship with these rescues. Remiel had never been particularly good at 'bonding' with people— and that extended to most Pokémon as well, outside of dragons and ghosts. It was with these he seemed to be most comfortable. He had grown up around them in his childhood, after all. And they, too, seemed to seek him out as others did Siobhan.[break][break]

"Perhaps someday you'll open a shelter," He says, gently placing a palm on top of the transparent case holding his egg. It is warm to the touch. "You seem to have the heart for that sort of thing."[break]

she is quiet as Remiel speaks, glancing away from him. "I have not thought on it" Siobhan admits "what I'll do when this war is over." her degree in folklore was meaningless anywhere outside of Galar and Hoenn. all the Legends convened here, fought here, there was a demand here. but when the war ended? perhaps there was a link between humanity fighting and avatars.

what if it ended and they all vanished? what if the Legends slept again? the people with Avatar powers dying or retiring peacefully, their power slowly draining? "a shelter is a good idea though" Siobhan admits "though I wonder where I'll put it..." a large city seemed the best choice, for the rural routes were all taken by Daycare folk.

"and what does your heart tell you?" she asks Remiel "when this conflict ends; what will you do?"

The surface of the lake's water ripples as a Squirtle briefly surfaces for air. In the woods bordering the lake ahead, a small family of Patrat reach the bank to drink from the freshwater source. A breeze sweeps in from the north and, for a moment, Remiel loses himself in the serenity of the moment before the sound of Siobhan's voice draws him back.[break][break]

The sight of the Litten kneading her... chest, is something he quickly blinks his gaze away from, however. Suffering the glow of a soft red tinge on his cheeks, Remiel clears his throat. "Right, well... growing up in the Glimwood Tangle might be to thank for that. I realized very early on that you have a connection with Pokémon far stronger than most."[break][break]

Though, if he were being entirely honest, he was more interested in her growing connection with other people than he was in the former. Primarily, perhaps, because 'other people' included his own relationship with her.[break][break]

"In all the time you spent there, have you ever cared for a Pokémon egg before?" He asks, daring to shift his glance back onto her.[break]

the Litten sees Remiel looking out of the corner of his wide little eyes. there is a squint as he continues to knead, glaring openly at the human. Siobhan may 'like' him, but Cheshire did not like Siobhan's attention to be away from him for long.

"perhaps" Siobhan agrees quietly, recalling her girl-hood exploring of the Tangle "no, I haven't" she answers his inquiry, realizing he never answered her own questions "only small Pokémon." she tries to remember if anyone had ever shown her an Egg before. surely she heard of them...

"what do you think will hatch?" did he leave two Pokemon at the Daycare? did he have an inkling? or had the Egg been completely random?

The egg shakes once more upon his lap, and this time it is entirely noticeable as Remiel sits still. "I've no idea," He responds, gently patting the chamber upon which the egg is encased. "But it's evident that whatever it is has grown much more eager to escape as of late."[break][break]

He pauses in thought for a moment, seemingly waiting to see the egg shake once more, but turns back to Siobhan when it doesn't. "You asked where I'd go, after this 'conflict' was over. Truth be told, I haven't thought much about that... and I'm not certain I have much of a choice. Not yet, anyway..."[break][break]

With his duty to Rocket and his birthright to the Galarian throne, Remiel Calcifet was forced to live in a neutral zone between the two until he figured out what he wanted to do... and how he would go about achieving this goal. If there was one thing for certain, it was that none of it would be easy.[break][break]

"And you?" He asks, his neatly trimmed brow raising with interest. "After you've paid your debt to me will you be returning to your forest? I imagine urban living has been somewhat of a rough transition for you."[break]

ah, so he went to the debt talk again.

Remiel would state he didn't know what he'd do once the war was over. she was going to say 'i'm sorry' to him, for what it was worth. not having a decision about your future was terrible.

but - he had to talk like she owed him. which she did, but no longer. she wasn't a toy.

"I have enough to pay you back" Siobhan would state, almost sharp as a knife "my promotions and jobs have gained me a sizable fortune." but despite her matter-of-fact tone, she was inwardly saddened.

the money he spent smuggling her into Hoenn was going to be repaid. but also, a small test. to see just how much they had grown as people, as allies... she dare not hope for anything more.

because there was no hope, was there?

"I doubt you need the money" she goes on quietly "but I made a promise to repay you. if you don't take it, it'll just be thrown into the sea."

Oh? This came as quite a surprise. Though, he supposed, the fact that Siobhan had made such a sizable amount of money in such a short time was a testament to her tenacity. Even despite her lack of experience in urban settings dealing with urban... challenges. Perhaps she had garnered such experience amassing a great wealth of Skwovet nuts for the winter in the Glimwood.[break][break]

"Very well," He nonchalantly replies, looking away towards the water while something festered deep within his heart. "You can drop it off in my office in headquarters at your convenience, then."[break][break]

Not having come to speak about financial matters, though fully aware that he'd referenced them regardless, Remiel sighs and rises from his seat with the egg in his hands. Idly, he checks his watch. "It seems the hour of the daycare's opening is at hand. I'd best depart before this egg hatches right here and now." He adds, carefully slinging the backpack on.[break]
