His crimson colored orbs scanned the report thoroughly not once, but twice. It was strange one. A young woman had her prized yamper stolen from her, claiming that this mystery person held her hostage until she gave up her pokemon. His brows scrunched, trying to understand the motive of this thief. If they wanted it, they could have just taking it.

Why hold her hostage for a yamper? There was more to the story, there had to be. Yampers were not that rare and not that desirable. The young woman was hiding something, not telling the police the full story or why the person would steal from her. Was the creature shiny? Did she owe them something and the yamper was collateral?

“What am I missing?” Maverick was no detective or the type to steal from others. He would admit to thinking about back in the day, but never done it. Lifting his gaze off the reports, he scanned the area for his partner. He hoped that whoever his partner was for this, they had a better idea what was really going on. Or at least, might have a better idea of where to start the search. And as always, he had the massive six foot seven hell hound by his side.

All that changed was the societal acceptance of the end goal and the methods. Perhaps this was thinking too deep in just trying to find a dog, but if there was anything worth doing, it was worth overthinking about.[break][break]

Her heels dug into the earth as she walked calmly up the base of the mountain. She was certainly an obvious figure, wearing a full suit in the middle of the day, with a large wide-brim hat covering up her face. There wasn't a single inch of skin exposed below her neck, gloved hands holding onto a fairly fanciful cane as she walked.[break][break]

Eventually, her partner for this case came into view. She took a quick look at his face and attempted to put it to memory before speaking up. "What you are missing, is the simple fact that you do not have the mind of a petty thief." She'd eventually stop, allowing him to gather his thoughts.[break][break]

"The woman was held hostage until she gave up her Yamper, instead of simply being taken with force. This tells us a few things. The thief is either new, inexperienced with such a task, unable to or unwilling to resort to violence, or they wanted to gather the Yamper unharmed. All of which tells us the Yamper is likely safe, we have time to gather our wits." Even as she spoke, a small Espurr would appear at her feet, wide eyes staring at everything.[break][break]

It took a few seconds before Celeste realized she didn't even introduce herself. She so dreaded it, but perhaps it would be important to learn his own name later on. "Celeste. Apologies, it's been a while. And you?"

Warm crimson colored orbs shifted over the terrain, spotting a well dressed figure approaching with her skin covered from head to toe. A brow rose as she spoke, making it sound as though she knew him and knew what the thief was thinking. She was correct in her statement however, Maverick was no thief. Even back in the day when he was tricked into joining the mafia like organization, a criminal just wasn’t who he was. Despite not taking part in those types of activities, the scarred man still managed to get in the higher rankings.

“You speak as though it comes from experience” was the first thing the ex gym leader said, his tone dark and deep and his expression impassive. Whether she did or not, Maverick didn’t care. As long as she didn’t do it around him or too him, it wasn’t his concern. Maverick no longer was part of the league so it didn’t matter. “But I’m glad that one of us has that kind of mind set.” Or they would be looking forever with no results.

Maverick let his lips curl up in a fake smile, giving her a polite nod in return assuming a handshake was off the table. “Maverick.” The massive six foot seven hell hound by his side let out a low, barely audible growl rumble in her chest. Her ruby gaze glared at this stranger through her rapidash skull she wore over her own. The trainer’s gaze flickered to his unsettled beast, letting out a huff at the canine’s behavior before turning back to Celeste. “So… Where should we begin?”
