THE RISEN BROW may as well be audible over the line. Walsh shakes his head, wondering what in Darkrai's name would have conjured such an inquiry.

"there is no favoritism within these ranks." The boss says curtly. "if you'll excuse me, i have matters to attend to."

The call is killed. Walsh sets his phone aside.

"apologies, oscar." The Boss resumes their romp.

Gavin swears he can hear Walsh's expression in the pause before the Boss speaks. Perhaps @madeleine would delight in the discomfited press of his lips, the way he shifts his weight in a subtle gesture of anxiety.

Though she wouldn't hear the response Walsh gives, she'd certainly notice when Gavin's eyes narrow.

"Apologies for the interruption, sir. Thank you."

The line goes dead and he pockets his phone. The anger earlier concealed is visible now in his scowl.

"Do you take pleasure in wasting my time, Miro? Because I don't enjoy wasting the time of Declan Walsh. I'd thought for certain that you wouldn't dare do something as stupid as to lie to me."

Miasma swirls at his fingertips; Gavin doesn't seem to notice, or else doesn't care.

Oh shit. Gavin actually had the balls to do it. Madeleine's impressed. Given his expression, Walsh's answer hadn't been in her favor, though. How trite and expected. Their affair remains a secret known only to them.

Del giggled, though notes the slow rise of mist from fingertips.

"Someone didn't ask him the right question." she stepped back. Perhaps a bit of air might help the blonde cool down. "But can you blame me? It's my daughter we're talking about." an icy smile spread her lips.

"I care about it deeply."

He's glad when she finally steps back and out of his space.

"If you care about her and how she's treated, then work with and not against me, Madeleine."

He could make life a living hell for her but he doesn't want to.

"So long as I've made my thoughts regarding her safety clear. It wouldn't be the first time something happened to it while in Rocket care."

They'd ordered it dead at one point and without offering compensation for Del's loss too. The travesty.

He couldn't have her threatening his subordinates, regardless of their assumed crimes.

"Are there any you trust more than others? I can see about having them assigned to her care."

Threatening the Rockets he was meant to keep in line by her own hand was scarcely a vote of confidence for his abilities.

He does wonder who she doesn't trust, but doesn't ask.

"Rowan Wrynn," Gavin repeats, with a neutral tone not betraying their kinship. "Easily arranged. Any others?"

Del kept her interactions with other Rockets sparse. The last thing she needed was one of them getting caught after being seen with her.

"This reminds me," she frowned, "I need the key to its cell." For whatever reason, they'd failed to provide her with one. That couldn't stand.

Madeleine's frown flipped into an elfish smile. "I plan to pay it a visit later." unmasked, sinister intent loomed in her voice.

Gavin considers her with a tilted head. He could deny her, but it would serve no purpose beyond pettiness. When it comes to Rocket, Gavin tries to avoid the instincts of his pride.

"That can be arranged."

If anything goes amiss, it'll be @madeleine who pays for it.
