gabriel sat at the head of the table; a motion more familiar to him than breathing, at this point. since his father stepped down, and he took over, it came naturally, and without thought.

but, eyes rested on the empty chairs around him, his expression stone. with the will of a mountain, he suppresses the sigh that threatens to climb-up. void of any eagerness, gabriel reaches for the silverware.

Within this house, she often felt like a bird trapped behind thin brass strappings, with only a tiny door to let her out. Eyes watched her constantly, made her tiny bird-like heart beat rapidly in her chest.[break][break]

Or it would have, if she wasn't trained for this.[break][break]

Even still, as she approaches the dining room to deliver a letter for the man at the head of the table, she feels discomfort as numerous eyes turn to watch her every move. She was a bird in the center of the lion's den.[break][break]

Her eyes glance up from the Pyroar at the forefront of the pile, her honey brown eyes settling on Gabriel's face. He doesn't look up from his dinner plate but seems to recognize her anyway. There is only a moment of hesitation, measured to look natural, made purposefully - though there was some nugget of truth - before she approaches to sit in one of the available seats. [break][break]

She sets the letter down to slide it toward him.[break][break]

"The man who dropped this off insisted it was urgent - I wouldn't have interrupted your meal if it sounded as though he were lying."

wordlessly, gabriel takes the letter from the woman and notes the lack of formality on it's surface. in that same silence he opens, and reviews the letter. there's an uncomfortable silence for one, to two minutes, as he addresses the contents. while he does a figure emerges from the kitchen, placing a full plate and soup bowl in front of suzu.

he gives her a soft, barely noticeable smile. it feels, and looks alien on the man.

The silence isn't uncomfortable - what is is the plate and bowl set before her. It smells.. good, and good was always suspicious.[break][break]

Her eyes shift to him again, her expression neutral, polite, perfect. But beneath the porcelain doll-like face is a wash of suspicion. She doesn't allow her eyes to wander, even though the writing that bleeds through the back of the letter beckons to her, she doesn't slip. [break][break]

"Of course, sir."[break][break]

Her words carry double meaning- a response both to his thanks and to his invitation to eat. Slowly, the woman reaches for her fork, forgoing the hot soup in favor of what is on the plate. [break][break]

"I have been familiarizing myself with the city, settling in, reconnecting with my brother."[break][break]

Suzu finds his smile, but her attention doesn't linger. She looks away and back to her plate, fork stuck with lettuce. The woman isn't hungry, but he's insisted.

There is a subtle crunch as she chews through the salad in her mouth. It is thoughtful, distinct, as she thinks over his inquiry. She's met men like him, been personable, even. He was prying, looking for information.[break][break]

"Sure, as close as most siblings are, I suppose."[break][break]

She swaps to her spoon, dips it into the soup, lifts it to her lips. The taste takes her by surprise, as does the warmth as it trickles down her throat. It brings a very small smile to her face.

Suzu sips, delicate and polite, while he goes into vague detail surrounding his family. None of it is of particular interest, necessarily, other than, perhaps, the fact that the man has children. But even that isn't truly a surprise - she's sure that Theo mentioned details like that.[break][break]

She meets his attention this time, warm brown finding cold blue. The expression he holds, however, is not quite friendly. Suzu meets it with calm indifference and a polite dip of her head.

The man is a titan, born from a strong family. It is impossible to tell what sort of man he would become, what he strove to be, what he wanted from her or from himself or his company. He could very well be a monster even if he didn't don the colours of Rocket.[break][break]

She is sure that if she failed to meet expectations, he had the means to ensure it never happened again.[break][break]

Gabe sets aside a glass, offers a nod, continues to speak to her without looking directly at her. He exudes power and authority, demanding without the need to raise his voice. It isn't a question nor a suggestion, and there is no room to avoid his demand- because that is what it is, a demand.[break][break]
