Okay, admittedly—even if he was more of a canine person, there was another reason he was here.

Even if he wasn’t that much a fan of felines, he knew that at least one of the six current occupants in the Safari Zone was capable of evolving into something that was Steel-type.

Now the question was would he be able to find what he was looking for in such a short time? To boot, he was looking for three of the same Pokémon, so it was definitely going to be an exercise in patience, if not absolute futility.

Either way, he paid for the four Safari Balls that were rolled his way—and then exited into the Safari proper.

Ah, this was going to be utter hell if his luck sucked.

The first thing he saw was—

Huh.

Didn’t this look like that chef he was helping out at the Night Market in the evenings, only in its much younger form?

Unfortunately it wasn’t what he was looking for, and so he left the Swirlix alone—going deeper into the grassy areas of the Safari Zone.

He had to suck it up and tough it out!

The next thing that caught his attention made him recoil slightly—

Wasn’t that the younger form of one of the Champion’s Pokémon, the one that had died and become a zombie in that communal nightmare that swept through the region a few years ago now?

“Nope,” he said with a little sigh, as he quickly redirected his steps away from the Electrike, who was most probably looking for someone to play with…

Definitely not him, though.

The next thing that came dashing across his path, however—

Still wasn’t what he was looking for!

Was his luck down in the shitter again?

Looking up at the sky, he then hissed for a few moments—who knew if there was a big-ass monkey wrench being wielded and just thrown at him every time he went here.

And then he could hear the deity’s snarky laughter in the back of his head!

“Oh, shut up,” he hissed as the deity laughed again, before he took another path around the Shinx and headed deeper into the Safari Zone.

This time, his searching would yield something fruitful.

Ah, at last! One… of three he needed.

The Meowth came out, yowling and claws bared, however he was quicker to throw out a Moon Ball, watching as the Lucario unfurled from the red beam of light and managed to throw the Meowth into a nearby tree.

“Yeah, I don’t know what the hell set it off. Deal with it, Alph,” he said as he recovered from the initial shock of a cat very nearly scratching his face off.

Locked in a nasty Fury of Swiping claws, the Meowth continued on the assault, trying to scratch the nearest pair of eyeballs out—however the Lucario was faster, meeting it with an aerial Meteor Mash punch and sending it flying.

The typical yowling noise came from its maw as said Meowth crashed into a tree again, before a loud Screeching noise shook the area.

Growling, the Lucario then fired off a concentrated Aura Sphere blast as it was headed his way again, and before it could crash into the tree another time, a Safari Ball was thrown.

As luck would have it, another one would appear—yowling and screaming in the same fashion as the earlier Meowth that had preceded it.

“Oh?” he remarked, eyebrows going up.

This time, instead of a flurry of claws, a flurry of coins came raining down on the Lucario, who frowned and made a face at the second Meowth.

While the Pay Day attack surely served to annoy the Lucario, the dual-type swung into action, quickly closing the distance with a burst of Extreme Speed and catching the second Meowth in a Brick Break attack!

This, of course, led to a retaliatory Play Rough attack.

“Shit, Alph—be careful!” he shouted as the Lucario was forced back, before taking the blow and slamming back into the Meowth with a two-fold Counterattack.

Not wanting to give up, the Meowth charged once more with another Play Rough attack, however it was met with an Aura Sphere to the face.

“Ooh,” Lars cringed before chucking the second Safari Ball at the Meowth.

Once the second Meowth had surrendered to the inevitable, it was only a matter of time before he found the next—

However, he sighed.

The next encounter was a canine grooming themselves not too far away!

“Well, isn’t that peaceful,” he said with a smirk as he tapped the Lucario on the shoulder and they cut another path away from the Furfrou, intent on searching out more Meowth to collect.

They were so close…

The next encounter was something—okay this was something he could easily manage.

The purple blur came fast, so fast that the Lucario barely had time to react. However, the Quick Attack had caught it off-guard and the jackal Pokémon was forced back a few paces.

“Damn, that’s fast,” he remarked.

“Alph, you got this.”

The encouragement was all the Lucario needed as the Rattata came bursting along with a sudden Double-edge attack—and then the Lucario seemingly took the attack, before suddenly shoving his arms back out in a two-fold Counterattacking gesture.

Not to be deterred, the Rattata came in for a risky Endeavor, only to be countered once again with another two-fold Counterattack from the Lucario.

“Nice,” he said as he threw the third Safari Ball.
