he intends to shake the hoenn region to its core. for that, ian is going to need allies.

he didn't want to seek out the draconids at first. it took some time for him to acknowledge that they were real. then, he decided that he needed living people, not extinct legends. ian is not interested in history's losers.

(but. they do have so much to gain)

ian scales the salt-licked cliffs with his bare hands. one of his nails is still cracked and bloody from a bad foothold, but he ignores the stinging pain.

"draconids, i know that you're in here." ian doesn't reach for the pokeball. not yet. "my name is yiannis castilla-somerville, and i want to speak to your elder."

a drop of water falls from a stalactite. then two. a quick shadow appears from the top of the second waterfall.

"you don't get to storm in here and demand anything." ian can't see their face clearly from here, but the voice is a woman's. "guardian(s) of the falls, drive the intruder out."

ian doesn't take kindly to a 'go away'. "this is a test?" it absolutely wasn't a test. "fine. i'll crush your guardian, and then we'll see your leader." he takes out a single pokeball.

ian does not have much sympathy for people who do not know who he is. he has even less sympathy for people who have given up on the world at large.

he does not intend to give a fighting chance to anyone who stands in his way.

an umbreon appears with the flash of a pokeball's light. "confuse ray. then make pork chop out of that grumpig, hecate."

umbreon hits the grumpig over the head repeatedly with feint attack until minced. leave it to rest for fifteen minutes before serving.

hecate seems pleased with herself, and ian decides that she's earned a pat on the head.

"bring your elder. i'll be waiting."

the cloyster wasn't running anywhere, but the umbreon traps her with a mean look. ian takes the opportunity to give chase to the woman, but the cloyster attempts to shoot him down with spike cannon.

fuck.

she doesn't bother whittling down the shell, but plays the long game with confuse ray. when her health dipped too low, hecate recovered with moonlight. slowly, she creeped closer and closer until --

a feint attack into the cloyster's meatier interior was enough to knock it out. by then, the draconid woman had already fled.

he could give chase, and lose himself in these caverns for weeks. ian decides to minimize his losses. he tosses a single pokeball at the cloyster.
