Danny peers down at her and holds her gaze. She can tell just by looking at him that what he says next will be genuine and from the heart. "i'm not going anywhere. i promise." Serena begins to feel her eyes prickle and sting all over again as her gaze falters. She appreciated that, she really did. But she couldn't help but feel guilty. [break][break]

He shouldn't be here after all. Because he's here he's constantly suffering. He can see his family or friends and then on top of that Serena had abandoned him and left him isolated for so long. While she was busy attempting to punish herself she was also in turn punishing him and he didn't deserve it. [break][break]

She bit her tongue fiercely as she buried her head in his chest once more. She wanted to tell him to leave. But she knew better by now. He wouldn't listen to, after all he had just told her he would never leave. Things would've been much simpler if she just didn't give a damn. Screw her morality, she should be more selfish. Then she'd be able to accept all of this without question. [break][break]

But not matter how much of herself she lost, she still stubbornly clung to tiny pieces of herself so they wouldn't fade away. So what did that mean for her? She would constantly be suffering between what was best for Danny and what was best for her. Lifting her head once more she planted a soft kiss against his cheek. "Thank you," she whispered. She didn't deserve his love and kindness but she'd accept for now. [break][break]

After a moment of silence she spoke up again. "I...I don't know if I'll be able to go back to the girl you feel in love with." she admitted with a frown. "Especially now after losing part of myself." she said as she glanced towards where Cas was buried. "I did warn you something like this might happen." she said with a forced smile. "I might become unrecognizable before long. And if that time comes, don't be afraid to leave, okay?" she said as she reached up to cup his cheek in her hand.

"i'll try." Danny replied and Serena attempted to search his eyes for any lies but couldn't find any. Still, something in the back of her mind reminded her of just how stubborn the man in front of her was. His stubbornness truly defied all logic at times. He offered her a reassuring smile before continuing. "you're still the girl i fell in love with, by the way."[break][break]

There was no way. So much had happened since they met. She felt like she'd lived through years worth of shit and it's only been months. There's no way she was the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, Serena had made sure of it. How she carried herself, it was all a lie. Part of the role she had to play. "You're just saying that." she said as she dropped her hand from his cheek and looked away from him. "I don't even recognize me anymore." she muttered.

"i'm sure you will eventually." Danny said, trying his best to encourage her. Serena just didn't know if it would actually come true. Had she become more pessimistic after the loss of Cas. No, deep down she was always like this. She couldn't trust herself to go back to how she used to be. The scariest part of all this sudden change was that, deep down, she didn't know if she wanted to go back. [break][break]

The Serena before was weak and indecisive. It's why so many took advantage of her and suffered no repercussions from her because of that. It's why Cas was so needed. He was the rock that would take charge to defend her from those she would so readily give her heart to. She had depended on him too much and now that he was gone she didn't know how to stand on her own two feet. [break][break]

Perhaps this was for the best. This pain. This change. Without it, she'd never be able to grow. But Arceus help her, she wished it didn't have to be like this. Danny took hold of her hand that fell from his cheek. His sigh was heavy and brought her back from her thoughts. "but i still love you, sera, and nothing's going to change that."[break][break]

Was he getting tired of this back and forth with her? She wouldn't blame him if he was. But this chaotic energy and flip flop of emotions represented what was really going on in her mind. She couldn't make sense of anything. Another apology was on the tip of her tongue, it threatened to reveal itself but she bit it back, afraid Danny would become upset with yet another apology. [break][break]

What should she do? What should she say? Everything she could think of would lead him to being more frustrated with her surely. Serena bit her quivering lip. He shouldn't still love her, not after everything she put him through. She walked a dangerous like of indecisiveness still. She both equally wanted what was best for him but selfishly wanted to keep him to herself as well. The friction between the two opposing forces was part of her ongoing stress and self torture. [break][break]

She looked back up at him with her azure hues searching for something in his own gaze before pressing her forhead against him and gently kissing him. "I love you too." she whispered so softly it almost felt as if she would disappear with the wind's slightest blow.
