cian remembers running on the beach just north of rustboro. it's always quiet and empty, making it the perfect spot to just get away from things.

he had visited it recently, too, shortly before heading up to lavaridge.

cian junior understands a little too much. it's when mars moves closer that the castform decides to turn away, averting his innocent gaze to watch a few krabby skittering along the beach.

cian wishes he felt guilty, but he doesn't.

the kiss is returned, more passionate this time.

"then it's a good thing i'm not going anywhere, huh?"

despite the playfulness in his voice, his words hold true. he would go anywhere with mars.

Mars is aware enough of the Castform’s presence to make note of the fact that he turns away, and for him that’s more than enough, easily returning his attention right back to Cian...

It seems as if no matter where they are and no matter the situation, his attention always goes back to Cian.

For Cian’s sake, he pouts, joking when doing as much, but even if he does, there is a certain truth to his words: it would be a lie to say the thought of losing Cian doesn’t scare him – it does, terribly so. Not because Mars thinks he would leave, but because there’s one too many dangers in this life they live.

These are his worries and his insecurities. The things he’ll keep deep within him.

In their place, for Cian, there’s a smile, and a kiss much alike the last one.

there are far too many dangers in this life they live. cian had been made painfully aware of it recently, and no matter how much he tries to run to avoid it, they always catch up to him.

it's why they're here in the first place, isn't it? because they couldn't turn down this mission without consequences.

it's a thought and a reality that's pushed aside for now, buried under the passion of the kiss that he easily returns.

There are days when the mere thought of the fact that he’s putting Cian in even more potential danger than what Team Rocket brings is enough to sour Mars’ mood for hours. Being with him comes with risks, and this is something he told Cian from the very beginning, but the fact that they’re aware of it doesn’t mean Mars is at all content with this. If anything, perhaps it’s now his main motivation to put all his careful plans in motion – one by one, one step at a time.

All these are things he often thinks about, but that don’t even cross his mind on this day at the beach, as they kiss.

time passes, drawing the sun closer to the horizon as the brightness of the day starts to dim. he's relaxed, calm, and enjoying the moment as he leans against mars with an arm wrapped around him.

still, they remain on the sand.

still, they remain in each other's arms.

Maybe their day hadn’t been ruined after all.

Despite the mission. Despite their argument.

With them, things always seem to take a turn for the better, and as he continues to lie on the sand next to Cian, Mars finds himself hoping that it will always be like this. That it will always be good. That it will always be better.

Confident as he has always been, he firmly believed that it will.

He chuckles, placing a gentle kiss upon Cian’s cheek before offering him a smile.

Moments like these are too nice for Mars to want to put an end to them, but they can't just stay on the beach forever, can they?

besides the fact that he's thirsty, hungry, and exhausted, but none of that seems to matter when he's laying with mars beside him.

it's almost too easy to ignore everything else.

he smacks his lips together, feeling how dry they are.

"i am a bit thirsty, though, not gonna lie."

There is no rush, except for the fact that he’s really hungry and tired, and that he’s dying to take a shower.

Are they also going to swim back to the yacht? As much as Mars loves swimming, especially in the ocean, he hopes they won’t, because that sounds like a fuckton of effort right now.

”Aw, are you? Do you want me to help you with that?”

Of course he has to say this, and of course he has to smirk about it, because really, why wouldn’t he?

Still, despite this, Cian's cheek is poked.

the poking of his cheek brings a pout, one that's meant only for mars.

"you'd only make it worse, mars."

he chuckles, rolling his eyes only to ponder on what to do next.

"we could watch the sunset from the yacht."

that, along with a shower, drinks, and food, wins him over. and so he turns to look at mars, pout now faded into a genuine smile at the idea.

"that sounds much nicer, actually."

In this case, he definitely would and he knows as much, but leave it to Mars to enjoy teasing Cian a little too much. Who could blame him though? It’s impossible not to when Cian’s adorable and pouts like that.

In the end, it’s all only jokes, and the topic swiftly moves on to watching the sunset on the yacht.

as they both know, cian can be a thirsty bitch at times, and mars has been both the case and the solution to it in the past.

he leans in closer to kiss mars on his cheek after he suggests helping out with dinner. it's cute to hear it, but he knows it's likely going to be him that ends up making dinner.

so the next question that escapes him is meant to tease.

"yeah? how about you make dinner for us instead?"
