why was theo asking such outlandish questions?

"chicken; the animal. bok bok."

chicken was… familiar. a sort of genus, maybe? 

lulu blinked, taken aback and unsure what to do with this information. 

”are you having a stroke?”

[attr="class","beck"]finally, he laughs, shaking his head.

"taco and chicken are the only two things i know how to cook. i just wanted your thoughts on them."

first thought: two things were not a lot of things to know how to cook. second thought: it was two more things than she knew how to cook.

third thought: why was he asking? her mouth pressed together a little, opting to let the mystery unfold itself.

”oh. okay.”

she picked up her phone, and entered something at the speed of someone with dexterity and opposable thumbs. what was revealed washed a look of realization over her face.

”ooh, that’s a chicken. okay.”

he sips, leaning forward as he gestures at her phone.

"how do you type that fast?"

"do you not know what a chicken is?"

”one: how do you not? two: i do now, cause i just looked it up.”

she shrugged.

”i’m not a biologist.”

[attr="class","beck"]to be fair to theo, it's difficult to type fast on a flip phone. imagine having to tap a key four times to get the letter he wants. dreadful.

"neither am i."

he shrugs as well.

"you fascinate me, lulu."

smoke blew from her mouth with an audible puff, an escaping laugh as she cut her eyes at him.

”you’re being snarky.”

she was fluent in the language, after all.

[attr="class","beck"]her laugh is met with one of his own, softer, more restrained.

his cigarette is placed into the tray, pressed until it extinguishes. his eyes flick up to meet hers.

"only a little."

was that also sarcasm? her face fell a bit, eyes hovering on his for a moment, almost uncomfortably, before falling back to the board. finally, she made a move.

still silence. her cigarette burned slower, the slightest vibration of life spiraling smoke towards the ceiling.
