the skill swap made for an unpleasant surprise, cait's features growing tight as a glimmer of frustration shone in her green-eyed gaze. "lombre! go!" as her vaporeon stared wide-eyed at the attack that was to come, her lombre utilized swift swim, intercepting the attack by taking the blow in the quadruped's place. and as the dual-type was sent tumbling head over heel, the bubble jet pokemon began to hastily prep another hydro pump. "aurora beam!" cait corrected. "water-type moves are useless now!" the vaporeon halted the attack and promptly released an aurora beam that propelled itself toward the supporting fairy. "stand up, girl. you're not done yet." these words were directed at lombre, whom was in the midst of recovering from the petal dance. "nature power." cait took the reigns, wanting to ensure that health wasn't restored to aromatisse. the lombre released the attack after a brief casting period, drawing power from her immediate surroundings before launching what appeared to be a swift at the fragrance pokemon.   |

the petal dance had hit twice before and it was imperative that it was more effectively avoided this time around. "both of you - aim your hydro pump toward the ground!" it was a strange order, but one that was obeyed as the attack flowed toward their side of the field. the pressurized water sent the pokemon flying toward the air, their bodies flailing as they executed the dodge. lombre managed to land neatly enough, though his comrade's fall was far more awkwardly in comparison. "va - ! " the pokemon grimaced, the damage sustained preventing her from returning to her paws. she was alert, but she'd be unable to effectively dodge nor move for the duration of the battle. |

vaporeon was taken advantage of the moment it was revealed she could no longer stand - and cait blamed herself for the single misstep that had resulted in her injury. 'we'll need to work on that landing in the near future.' as her pokemon fell limp once struck by the fairy's potent attack, cait recalled her. "it's up to you now, lombre." "lom!" lombre charged an ice beam, the attack shimmering as it manifested before her gaping maw. it flew true a second later, its power propelled toward the partially immobilized aromatisse. |

the grass knot proved successful, its leafy tendrils managing to wrap themselves around the lombre's limbs before forcing her to the ground. she'd release a pained grunt as her chin slammed into the floor, and would likely be nursing a bruise in the near future as a result. "use hydro pump, lombre!" rain dance was on its last legs now, the onslaught of rain having transitioned into a light drizzle. still, it managed to strengthen the dual-type's next attack by a decent enough margin. |

it was lombre's inability to extract herself from the thick tangle of grass knot that seals her fate. she panics the moment that the moon blast is thrust toward her, and she flails uselessly before being struck. she almost immediately slumps over, the dual-type's expression dazed as she is abruptly robbed of her consciousness. "we've lost." cait was disappointed - but not at all surprised by the outcome of their match; because while she was making leaps and bounds in her training, there was still quite a bit of room left for improvement. 'we'll need to train more.' she returned her defeated dual-type and dips her head respectfully in stone's direction. the rain dance has dissipated completely now, her bangs clinging to her forehead and her curls damp. "thank you for the battle, sir," she said. her smile returned, the young woman a little bit pleased that the match had been - at the very least - close. |
