she wasn’t sure how she felt about it being good or bad. it was more so curiosity, rather than any strong desire to do the right thing. she wanted to know what theo thought about it.

“hm. maybe.”

lulu did have the capacity to care. it was thin, but still existent. a ‘good heart’ was perhaps a stretch, though—and had always been. bitter, even when she’d known how to smile more.

could a good heart want to end the world?

“darkrai ate djall’s dreams once, and i don’t think he ever really came back out of it.” she pressed her lips in a line and looked at him. “he attacked you after that. he was never aggressive before, really.”

"snover seems fine."

one balanced on his foot while the other tried to take it off. clearly, theo had a favorite out of the two.

he shrugged.

"maybe djall just hates me."

“snorunt,” she corrected under her breath, almost silent against the lip of the mug. it was unnecessary, but she did it anyways.

in actuality, djall was crazy, and he hated him. no one could know this for sure, though.

“i dunno. i think his head’s just not right.” she could relate.

“he was trained. he was always so well-behaved and friendly…”

something then occurred to her in an intrusive memory. he’d been friendly to everyone but FERNANDO SILPH , before. djall had known… so, maybe he wasn’t such a stupid dog after all?

her face softened as she recollected internally, but she was derailed by his question. her eyebrows raised in surprise, because it had never occurred to her to do such a thing.

“no.” she blinked. “i haven’t.”

her eyes lingered on his with a look of deep consideration, as though hanging on the edge of something she knew she shouldn’t say.

“what do you think about ultra space?”

admittedly, he knew close to nothing apart from what was known to the public.

"but i'd like to experience it someday."

she could never tell him everything. not about the grand plan, or that his life was expendable. if she got her way, he would burn with the rest of the pain in the world, in her ultimate end to suffering. for now… she needed him alive, and close.

maybe until the end.

“if… i figure out how to get there…” she stared into his eyes, looking for the future. “will you go with me?”

no doubt in his answer, he nodded, meeting her gaze.

"i will."

his finger idly tapped against the warm mug, considering for a moment.

"i would go anywhere with you, lulu."

discordant emotions tingled up her spine, some of them highly unexpected. she still couldn’t fathom what she’d done to receive such loyalty.

while she didn’t trust it, it was a little nice to pretend she could, if only for moments at a time.

her face neared his, tentatively leaning for his lips.

he had always needed purpose in his life. for most of it, it had been rocket, and even though rocket still held part of it, other things shadowed it.

he didn't need to pretend. for him, there was never a doubt.

his mug lowered, he leaned, and their lips met, sealing the promise in his words.

was this how things were going to be? not likely. there was no room for this in her life on a regular basis, even with all the time she had at her disposal.

she told herself that was fine.

the feeling of his lips brought recollections of the day prior, and flooded her cheeks with a blush he’d always summoned too easily. the memories were so vivid this time, without alcohol to taint them.

her throat cleared and she retracted in a way that sent her hair to veil the side of her face.

”i think i have what i need to get us there.”

though he didn't sound surprised; far from it, actually, as though he already knew she'd get them there somehow.
