they have forged a bond during the hoenn star tournament. among the people he has met, somehow, it's the one that invited him to a fish house was the one that stuck. everyone else has more or less been written off as an npc.

he looks up the address and then double checks the house on google maps to see if he got it right. anxiety of going to a friends' house for the first time flares up before he decides to just fuck it and knock.

"hello?" he greets. "this is the right place, right?"

the place definitely smells like fish, so he knew this was the right place, but somehow, he still can't shake that feeling off.

kyle can't really be blamed for questioning if this is the right place. it looks dreadful, to be honest, as it's a shophouse in the middle of a few others that have closed down for whatever reason.

those privy would know that he bought out the rest of the block just so he can have a bit of privacy. rocket pays shit but it's what he does outside of it that helps fund his hobby.

there is only one answer to the question, which should've been obvious given that he went to what seemed like a dangerous part of the neighborhood just to visit the place.

"yeah. i want to see fish."

the place was obscure enough for normal hoenn citizens to get worried about, but not kyle. he knew this person was trustworthy since he offered to show him some fish during hoenn star tournament.

there would be no bad person offering to let strangers look at their fish, right?

he looks around the tanks and sees a pyukumuku, which is an entire cheek pouch in itself, except instead of food, it's guts. other honorable mentions were the finneon that reminded him of hnn writer, finn aitken, and the dragalge, which was arguably his favorite dragon-type.

"hm... maybe this one?" he points at the dragalge. it also reminded people of silas blackwell so he didn't share that information much.

another pokemon catches his eyes, and he quickly changes his answer.

"wait, it's this one," he tells theo, pointing at the bruxish. "doesn't this remind you of the sootopolis gym leader?"

someone as old as theo might probably remember nikolai petrov since he started the chain of the city's always changing gym leaders, or maybe alexander stone, since he's the most popular out of the ones that held the position.

kyle's obviously refering to Melody Miro though, and like the other names mentioned, has also died. may their souls rest in peace.

huh. that's definitely an interesting way to look at pyukumuku. he's never quite considered that it's basically a big CHEEK POUCH filled with guts.

he stares more at the fish, trying to get why the decision was made like that. he squints his eyes, trying to find differences between the two. there were very little, like how one is a fish while the other was a mammal, but it's got to be more than that.

it's a wild guess, but it's probably not that far off.

kyle takes the container of fish food from theo and sees that it's a bunch of little apricorn shaped pellets that the bruxish doesn't need its sharp teeth for.

he takes a couple and sprinkles it over the water. when he hears the crunch underneath the surface, he feels like he's been cheated.

"is this her favorite food?" he asks. "Melody Miro fish forme is eating a lot."

he takes the leash from theo. it feels natural in his hand, having used it with more ways than one. it's nice to see he gets to use it outside of the usual subjects in his home.

as he readies to leash the fish, the question gets him to think about wigs. something definitely fits the bruxish, and Melody Miro fish forme gives kyle the answer in an epiphany.

"you should get two," he tells theo. "pink for fish house work, and then blue for when you just want to go on a casual walk."

it makes the bruxish feel fancy, and that's what's important.
