It’s with a light breeze that flurry breaks into the chalet when the front door opens, snowflakes falling onto polished hardwood floors and melting soon after it closes. Boots are removed and so is a heavy winter jacket, Mars then making his way to a living room where a fireplace burns with its ever so welcomed heat.

”Fuuuuck. It’s so cold outside.”

Is he being overdramatic? Perhaps, because Mars usually is, but his words are still no exaggeration when it comes to the cold of the area near Lake Acuity.

It’s all too easily that he allows himself to lounge on a sofa as if the very chalet belonged to him, glad to be back from his supply run to Snowpoint City.

Supply run which really had mostly been for the sake of buying more alcohol, of course, since that always seems to be what runs out the fastest when university students go on a skiing trip.

Outside, night falls, their day of having fun at the ski resort now long gone.

uri definitely had to google what a chalet was before coming here with mars. that's some rich people shit. uri just calls it a cabin.

he sighs as well as he sits by the warm fire, sinking in the couch.

it's then that he tilts his head over to look at mars, asking:

"you ever been HORSE RIDING?"

For a few seconds, there’s silence, one that is only interrupted by the gentle crackling of the fireplace. Here, at one of the coldest places in all of Sinnoh, its warmth is one Mars allows himself to cherish – watching the way flames dance under the artificial light of the modern chandelier up above.

”Horse riding? Yeah, my grandparents made me take lessons as a kid.”

This answer should have been expected, really, since it’s no secret that his family breeds, raises, and trains the best horse pokémon possible for those grand races of theirs. But, this is not something Mars actually expects Uri to remember, since he himself never cared much for it anyway…

Actually, there was once a time when he hated it, even if now he has a certain appreciation for those memories and for horse pokémon even if they’re so closely linked to his grandparents.

As he considers the thought, Mars can’t help but chuckle, because it’s the kind of thing a kid would suggest. It’s the kind of thing he expects Uri to suggest too, but as it usually happens when he says things like these, Mars finds it all too amusing… perhaps because they’re the sort of thing he himself never got to do as a kid.

Enjoying horse riding? Wonder what that must be like…

”Wanna try it? We could break into my family’s stables when we’re back at Canalave.”

Break into because there’s no way they’d be okay with their precious horse pokémon being used for something so ridiculous.

Smirking at the thought, Mars turns to look out the window, and in the distance he meets the gaze of a plump Bidoof – it’s cheek pouch looking as if it were completely filled with berries or perhaps apricorns. They stare at each other for a second or two, and then the pokémon runs away, disappearing into the dark forest.

damn! that sounds really fun. not only would they get to go horse riding but there'll also be the added excitement from breaking into mars' family's stables. he's getting really hyped up just thinking about it.

not as hyped up as that plump bidoof seems to be with its cheek pouch, however.

It’s with a grin that he gives his response, because honestly, Mars is kind of excited too. He may no longer be a teenager, he may be in university now, but that rebellious spirit of his never quite fades away – that same one that often seems filled with nothing but an endless will to piss off his grandparents. It’s the least he can do to make them pay for everything they have done; his own way to fight back, because right now he can’t do much more than that…

But, there are times when even deities of war don’t think of strife, and on this night, as he looks at the blazing fireplace, it’s Uri’s words that pull him away from thoughts of such kind.

There’s something that’s just too damn funny about watching Uri completely miss at catching the pillow only for it to smack him right in the face. It makes Mars laugh; honestly and truthfully, and in a way he so rarely does with most people in his life.

It’s one of the reasons he’s glad to have Uri in his life, and why he can smile at his friend’s words even if he knows there’s so much he’s keeping from him. There’s so much he could never tell him, and yet, he still trusts Uri – he still knows he can count on him if he ever needs him.
