priam calls after the admin that he sees walking around the sub for some undefined reason.

a shroomish runs away from priam towards mars at a speed faster than what short shroomish legs can normally run with. it's probably drugged to oblivion by elijah gardener's special garden fertilizer.

"can you catch my shroomish please! thanks!"

Mister Admin over here is a very busy man, especially after acquiring said title. Which, unfortunately for him, means he now has to spend a considerable amount of time walking around the Team Rocket sub for one too many reasons that there’s no point in naming right now...

But, even when just walking towards his office, it’s rare for people to bother him when working, and it’s especially rare for someone to do so for the sake of catching a Shroomish.

”Huh?” It’s only for a second that Mars finds himself perplexed, since the second after that he turns and sees the Shroomish that runs almost as fast as a Zeraora. What the hell?

Instead of trying and miserably failing to catch it himself, he reaches for a pokéball, releasing an Alolan Raichu that surfs through the very air atop of its tail.

”Psychic. Stasis.”

And so, another second later, it’s a low-powered and almost harmless PSYCHIC attack that stops the Shroomish on its tracks, making it rise from the ground by the will of the Raichu.

was statis the name of the raichu? it would be a weird name though, which if it actually was, that priam probably wouldn't judge because he is an understanding individual.

"hell yeah! it's all drugged up!"

it's with fertilizer and good quality mulch though, and not the lab variety of high-tech serums and steroids.

it was at this point that priam realized that he hasn't interacted with the new admin as much. he'd ask if he was new, but he couldn't risk being wrong, so he just plays along for now.

"oh, ya! i'm priam by the way!" he introduces as he takes the floating shroomish in his arms. "on a scale of one to ten, who busy are ya today?"

he pins the shroomish between his arm and his side as he rests his hands on his waist. a puff of his chest follows the display of unnecessary pride, but the following talk gets the excitement levels back to low due to confusion.

what was obvious wasn't so. priam's first thought gets him a smile on his expression. "ya givin' me a gift? aww, you shouldn't have!"

he tries to hide the bashfulness with a display of boldness with his words. a gift from a stranger was one thing, from an admin was another, but for the ceo of the unusually named pog bank? that was something else.

"what kinda gift are you giving me? something cool and tough and scary to encapsulate my greatness in a pokemon form?"

For a second there, Mars wonders if Priam is joking, but with his next words it becomes clear that the not-so-much-of-a-grunt grunt is absolutely, without a doubt, one hundred percent serious in his childlike excitement. Adorable, and also refreshing when compared to the usual edgy demeanor of most Team Rocket members.

With a grin akin to that of a Cheshire cat, an arm wraps around the other’s shoulders. ”Hell yeah, I am! The gift of knowledge, understanding, enlightenment, and incredible power... priam can't concentrate on what's in front of him. he ponders on the word too much that he takes the pokeball absently while the word continues to linger in his head.

he starts to think too much of the word until the word doesn't sound like one in his head anymore. it echoes until his head is empty with nothing but the word, but it's not the same sensation as the one he got from the ruins of regirock.

priam feels more obsession with the word than a headache he'd expect from it.

"what's the thing you said again, mister del mar?"

was there a trigger word somewhere in the statement that somehow hypnotized him? confirmation was needed, though he asked the question more as a reflex to get the conversation going instead of letting it stall.

Having heard that one word that consumes him almost every single day ever since Azelf’s visit, Mars’ reaction is much different from Priam’s. You. It rings, it lingers, but he sees it coming, and he forces himself to push past it.

Still, letting go, brows furrow slightly at the other’s mention of a word, familiarity showing itself in the form of a hunch. The way he seems lost in thought as if pulled away from the conversation, the mention of a word, it’s all too similar to Mars’ own reaction the first few times he heard his own. All too similar to chryssa glasgow’s reaction when he mentioned hers back at the soirée. Could Priam be one of them too? At this point, the paranoia he feels has settled so deeply that even the smallest coincidence begins to seem like far more.

But, what if he’s right? When have his instincts ever been wrong?

he grasps his hand over his hand, grabbing a chunk of hair as he ruffles his own head on deep thought. his own introspection ends with him linking it to the one fateful encounter, but he wasn't really sure if it's related to that.

nevertheless, he shares his obsession with the word to the admin. it's not like it's unheard of. it wouldn't make him weird to be that one guy with a funny quirk, as opposed to being 'the boy who cried wolf' about a blue thing.

"it's just a funny word, right? hehe, yields."

on hindsight, there had been very few occasions in the past where the word was heard by him, perhaps even never since no normal person would use it in an everyday conversation over a much simpler word.

While Priam may not want to be 'the boy who cried wolf', at this point in time Mars has become too damn paranoid about Azelf and the prophecies and words it gave to just be dismissive when someone’s actions bring reminders of all of that. So, the word is repeated, almost as if to verify.

”Is it? Hmm…I guess it’s not one you’d use often…”

Most people wouldn’t, at least, but leave it to Mars to talk ‘all fancy’ when he wants to do so. It’s the sort of vocabulary he uses when playing the role of Rocket Admin, just as he does when acting as POG Bank’s ever so illustrious CEO.

He stares at Priam, watching him closely, and finally, as if resigning himself to the fact that there’s no way this won’t sound incredibly strange, he asks the question that has been burning in his mind (not without first allowing himself a sigh):

There’s no harm in asking, right?

he scratches his head as he thinks of one specific event that lead to it. all the weird things happened during the past three years that it's difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of things.

the most recent one was easy to remember though.

"kinda. well, it's doesn't really involve the word, but it's, like, got me thinking more about it, ya feel me?"

there wasn't a more accurate thing he can say to describe the sensation. it's just a status condition inflicted on him all of a sudden, without any warning nor explanation.

"i blame that cool little dude though! that floating blue rat!" he grabs an imaginary rat in the air and shakes it. "fucking hate him. messed me all up like those psychic-type torture things rocket did on kanto!"

Priam’s annoyance and the mention of “Psychic type torture” only seems to make it more obvious, because the way Azelf froze them in place, the way it spoke into their minds… it all could probably trigger more than a few things for someone who has been under the influence of Psychic type pokémon before. Hell, even Mars himself had been angry about it at the time.

No one likes feeling like they’re being controlled.

Ironic, since if the legends are true, Azelf is the one who gave them the chance to feel things like those. Apparently, it can also take away all those gifts.

”Calm down, Priam. You’re fine.” With his composure never broken, Mars looks at one who really is barely more than a boy – a boy who apparently has been through a lot. Priam is probably not fine, but how could Mars help with the deep-seated trauma of someone he met only a few minutes ago? He’s not here to do that.

”It said something to you, didn’t it? In your head? I saw it too.”

The last part is only said for the sake of reassuring him, since really, what matters here is finding out what other prophecies Azelf gave.

If he weren’t so focused on trying to pay close attention to every word of this supposed prophecy despite the relentless hold that singular ‘you’ has on him, Mars would be endlessly proud of himself at this very moment. Well, not like he isn’t always proud of himself, but even more so in this case.

there's a look of exasperation as priam locks his fingers together behind his neck with his arms draping down. he stares at the ground as he attempts to recall the rest of the words.

the shroomish drops on the ground at this point, but thankfully, it stays by priam's legs this time.
