Luka doesn't have the heart to reject a perceived act of kindness. Sunscreen has always been a part of her religious skincare routine but she applies a bit more to her nose and star-spotted cheeks regardless.[break][break]

Nearby on the grass, her Mareep dozes in a patch of warm sunlight. It takes all of Luka's resolve to stay alert, for all she wants to do is sink down into plush pink cotton and have a nap right alongside the sheep. She yawns daintily behind her hand.[break][break]

"Poor things..." Luka clicks her tongue in sympathy for the Wooloo, even though they seem happy enough as they graze in the sun-drenched fields stretched before them.[break][break] "Can you scout for us, Plum?" Her Musharna lazily floats from her side, drifting off to see if anything around them is amyss. [break][break]

In the meantime Luka blinks and flinches back when a hand extends towards her. She startles easily, like a rabbit. But she warms up quickly and lashes flutter to her cheeks, head tilted so Niko can better reach the spot she'd missed.

[attr="class","niko i"]his touch is surprisingly gentle as his fingers brush against her cheek, applying sunscreen to the spot she'd missed. not that there was a spot to begin with, of course, but she doesn't need to know as much.

he takes his time, and when he's satisfied, his hand lowers to her chin if only to tip her gaze up at him.

His touch is gentle, but the pads of his fingers are lightly calloused. Rough-hewn, like marble that's been weathered over time. Luka's skin warms under a hand that lingers a bit too long, until he grips her chin and tilts it up. Her eyes flutter open again.[break][break]

She peeks at him from under her lashes, doe-eyes wide and cheeks burning. With that much sunscreen, it can't be attributed to the sun.[break][break]

"Ah...y-yeah. Thank you." Teeth worry her bottom lip, sinking into plush pink flesh. "Um...oh, but— um. The, erm. T-the Wooloo..."[break][break]

From somewhere beside them, her Mareep baas balefully.

His dark eyes draw her in, and it's hard not to fall under their spell. Their job, their mission, everything else falls by the wayside as Luka sinks into that gaze. She imagines that it's almost tender.[break][break]

Her Mareep cries again— louder, more insistent. It's enough to break whatever trance she's under, her gaze flitting over to the cotton candy sheep instead.[break][break]

"P-pardon me, monsieur," she says, reluctantly drawing away from Niko. "Can't you hear them? I, um, I don't think it's right to leave things like this."[break][break]

She's hoping for a distraction, for respite. A chance to quiet the heart that flutters behind her ribs like a caged bird. But she takes the offered hand anyways, ever the fool.[break][break]

Hers is so small in comparison. Her fingers are delicate, her palms soft and unmarred. Luka tries not to let it distract her as she keeps her eyes on the field before them, dots of white quickly swimming into view.[break][break]

Wafting swirls of dream mist announced her Musharna's return, teleporting before the pair in a flash of violet light. She emits a low rumbling sound as the mist begins to twist and take shape; a cluster of pink surrounded at a distance by several smaller swirls. If a pack is hunting the Wooloo it seems they've spread out, closing in their hunt from every angle. [break][break]

"Is that..." Luka squints. "Y-you said there might be predators, didn't you?"

it's then, as she asks her question, that his ditto TRANSFORMS into a manectric.

"a pack of them, looks like."

his other hand goes to release his corviknight who immediately takes to the skies.

"we gotta lure them away. think you can cry out for them? get them to head to you?"

"Manectric?" One on it's own is no problem. But an entire pack closing in...even with the two of them protecting the Wooloo, it sounds dangerous. Worry creases the corners of Luka's mouth, a look unsuited for such delicate features.[break][break]

"Oh, gosh...k-keep an eye on them, okay Plum? Let us know if anything happens..." Her free hand twists into her skirt, though denim overalls don't yield as much as her usual chiffon.[break][break]

"Do you think that would work, though? Luring them away?" When it comes to impressions Luka's talents lie in people, not Pokemon. Then again, she's never really tried. And the bleating of the Wooloo, louder now, does lend her some inspiration.[break][break]

She tugs at Niko's hand, pulling him away from the center of the field. The trees surrounding the pasture will provide better cover; and besides, that's probably where the predators are lurking. "W-we should go somewhere else, then. Don't want to lead them right back here!"

he's tugged away away from the center of the field, towards the trees that'll provide them cover. it's there that he releases his corviknight, and though its typing puts it at a disadvantage, its sheer toughness and PRESSURE more than make up for it.

"it'll work! just do your best."

for once, he's being actually supportive. maybe it's because of her hand in his?

either way, he and his team ready themselves for the manectric.

"R-right...right! I will!" Luka squeezes Niko's hand, finding a gentle assurance in his support. It helps to keep her own fingers from trembling.[break][break]

She takes a deep breath and tries to shut out the noise around them, everything except the Wooloo. Studying them is difficult— no tone or accent to play off of, just pitch and timbre and the warble of fear in their voices. Luka clears her throat and tries not to feel too foolish as she attempts to mimic their panicked cries, though her first soft baa's sound more like a child's imitation than the real thing.[break][break]

Ugh! How embarrassing! She screws her eyes shut and just goes for it, and the noise that escapes her next sounds almost exactly like a Wooloo's plaintive bleating.
