Serena lounged on the sofa in her room. She hadn't been to her dorm in forever. Mostly because the last time she was here a lot of shit went down with Genesect and that scarred her from coming back here. But since then, plenty of other things had been done to her that made it worse. Besides, had asked a favor of her that required for her to be on the sub. [break][break]

The underboss needed her to watch after his little one while he was busy with Rocket things. Serena didn't mind, she was actually pretty good with kids believe it or not. She and Eris had been up to no good all day. Playing pranks on unsuspecting inhabitants of the sub and making a run for it, getting into things they had no business. After enjoying an eventful day Eris found herself pretty exhausted and ended up passing out along the way. [break][break]

Serena brought her back to her dorm room so they could both relax for a bit. Even Serena had dozed off for a moment only to be startled awake by one of her routine nightmares. This one wasn't the worst one she'd had but it was just a replay of the events that happened in Sootopolis. Once more she was forced to watch helplessly as Cas was murdered right before her eyes. [break][break]

Brutal but she had come to expect the dream at this point. She hadn't had a peaceful rest since everything went down months ago. With a heavy sigh Serena sat up in her seat and buried her face in her hands. She was so tired of all of this and so frustrated. How could she move on if she was constantly griefed by the mistakes of her past. [break][break]

Serena felt her eyes began to prickle which frustrated her even more. She wiped at her face as tears continued to obscure her vision. When would all of her suffering be over? Adrian had promised a month. But she wasn't so sure at this rate. She clutched the charm she'd received from Mesprit that hung around her neck since she'd received it. It had done wonders of helping her regain her composure and to help focus her thoughts in times when she really needed it.

Getting to play pranks on other people, getting chased by their mortified victims and taunting them as they successfully shook them off. After a whole day of putting fake bugs into people's shoes, feathering their hair and making them walk into cellophane doorways, tiredness had set in and she was fast asleep. Nestled against the warm belly of a curled up Reiner, nothing would wake her up until she was ready to wake.

She's roused from her sleep by the sound of silence crumbling under emotions. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, she reaches for Serena's sleeve and gently pulls herself close for a hug. News travels fast around the organisation and Eris is quick to realise that there aren't any words that she could possibly offer to ease the pain. No amount of apologies or comforting words would fill that hole in her heart - Help her numb the pain, yes, but fixing a heart torn clean apart would take more than that.

So she hugs her quietly, shifting to allow Reiner space to do the same by curling himself around the both of them. Just like a safety blanket that would help to warm her whenever the world grew frigid and bitter cold, he would be there for them for as long as they needed.

Its the soft tug on the sleeve of her pink jacket that finally halts Serena's soft sobs. Looking down with wide eyes she watches as Eris sleepily wraps her arms around her in a hug. Serena was so surprised and taken off guard by the sheer authenticity of her actions. Serena was truly moved. [break][break]

With a sniff she wiped at her wet cheeks once more. Her head had a dull throbbing pain in the back of her skull. Something she had grown accustomed to sense she cried often, but it always felt as if she had been hit with some sort of blunt force. [break][break]

Reaching down she gently caressed Eris' head. "I'm sorry, did I wake you?" she asked softly, "I didn't mean to." it was true, she had been doing her best to remain quiet. After a moment she returned the hug, truly glad for something as simple as this. [break][break]

It was unexpected but it did numbers to help heal the pain in her chest. "Thank you," she whispered softly to both Eris and her Shinx who were comforting her in her moment of weakness.

In a sense, it was true. There was only so much time that she could spend drifting off in a dreamless void, and far too many things that weighed on her mind to truly spend long amounts of time on idling or napping. Still, it's best that she doesn't speak her mind this once. It must be a full moon tonight. It would explain why her emotions were so all over the place. She was beginning to think she was bipolar or something. "Nuh uh... you didn't wake me up." Eris replied softly beside her and Serena continued to gently pat her blonde locks. Serena truly appreciated Eris more than she would ever know. Sometimes, she just needed a hug, no questions asked. "Did you have fun today? With all the pranking and stuff..." she asked and Serena pulled back from the hug. As she did so her charm that she had gotten from Mesprit dangled before resting against her chest on top of her shirt. "Sure did kiddo." she said with a grin. "Honestly, some of the most fun I've had in a really, really long time." she said with a soft chuckle. [break][break]

Serena was already feeling better and she was certainly grateful for the topic change. It was just a touch embarrassing to be found crying her eyes out. But all was well, at least for now. Just being able to enjoy her new friend's company was enough. "You make a great partner-in-crime." She said with a soft nudge against Eris.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS




ON THE SURFACE, nothing seems to happen. The charms refuse to budge, inert, a simple accessory at best.

Their lips remain sealed. Any push to mention MESPRIT will result in their nervous system slowly shutting down. Rather than words, their lunch will resurface before anything of substance comes forth.

But, should either pay particular attention to the other’s MYSTERIOUS CHARM, they will notice a letter embedded on its surface.





Coincidence? Or intentional?

Only time will tell.
