a letter had been sent to Katherine Fairburne. the note insisting that there was a rocket seeking sanctuary. a rocket that desired to flee, rid themselves of this terroristic cancer that plagued hoenn. the note detailed that, in exchange, information would be given. one that she couldn't resist. they were to meet within a public setting, a popular that was best made for shady meetups. it was the safest way for the informant to meet with the "league" member.

tonight was the night it would all go down. the club tonight had been packed. the partygoers danced, the crowd cheered, the music blared, and the colorful constant flashes of light strobed immensely. tonight was a big night for the guest of honor. once katherine made her way in she would come to be met with an escort that would guide to an area meant for v.i.p. only. of course they would remain in view by the many while katherine sat with the few.

once there she would come to meet a masked man who looked as though he owned the place. dressed within a slim-fitted suit with a red dress-shirt that stood out to match his mask. cerulean orbs would come to focus on the powerful beauty. a hand would rise for those gathered around to leave the area, just so the two could have their "talk".

"welcome to the playground," he would lean back within his seat, adding, "catalina (katherine) fairburne." he uttered the gym leader's name with an accent to it. though, what stood out most, was that the mask that covered his mouth possessed a voice changer, it could be heard within the tone of each word uttered. "i hope you're ready to be sold a secret."

The average ex-rocket wouldn’t accept such a ‘convenient’ invite, would they? But then again, the average ex-rocket couldn’t afford doing half of the things Kat does. Between staying under the public spotlight and not hiding or cowering from potential agents looking to cut loose ends, Katherine proved one thing.

Gods are fearless.

She moves in a very particular way, where sass meets vanity and vanity meets overall contempt for everything other than her. The superiority complex was big with this one, and it showed even now— as she paraded into the club.

The man of the honor reveals himself soon after she arrives, earning her undivided focus. She had a thing for well-dressed men, but she had a bigger thing for masks. She would have remembered someone like him if they’d met during her time in Rocket, but they didn’t.

“The playground, huh? Happy to be here.” Her name is butchered, but she pays it little mind. He gets a pass. ”Only one? What a shame, I was hoping for more,” she jests, her lips already curling into a smile.

Her gaze drifts towards the people who vacate the room on command, half-curious. She had her doubts still, but maybe rosario de santos was the real deal. Maybe she struck gold.

rosario would invite the runaway to sit. "have a seat, i'll be sure to make this quick." a drink would come to be brought to their area. "it's on the house. this is a welcome party, after all." and the guest of honor would come to be revealed soon. "i'm glad you agreed to meet with me here, it must have not been an easy choice to make." the center of his mask, the part which covered his mouth, began to split apart. light exhalation would spawn as he'd partake in a sip from his drink. once having done so the mask, once more, closed.

"rocket isn't what it use to be."

he'd look toward his associate before continuing, "what it stood for. what they were back in kanto. it's not like how i exactly remembered it." swigging the drink in his glass cup about. he would look within it, his reflection seen. "if you'll allow me, senora, tell me, what made you leave?" the masked gentleman was curious. he wanted to understand, straight from the rapidash's mouth, her reason.

She means it. She was in no rush. Katherine made sure that she had no other arrangements to take care of before coming here. It was Sootopolis, after all. This could easily take the rest of her day— hell, there’s a good chance she’ll stay here until the small hours of the morning.

“You’d be surprised. A lot of people don’t know this, but I was raised here.”

Here, being sootopolis. Prior to the takeover, of course.

Her eyes are drawn to the drink, but she doesn’t consider sipping quite yet. Public space or not, this was still a city controlled by rocket. She doesn’t trust the bartenders. She doesn’t trust the man she was supposed to help.

She only trusts herself.

Her smile is taken from her far earlier than she’d anticipated. This question haunted her, time and time again proving that rumor doesn’t travel fast enough within the supposed organization.
