before lars could even descend, he'd note the clouds above were beginning to thicken above him. hairs on his neck, and arms, begin to stand. then, in a flash of explosive light, a THUNDER descends downwards towards the challenger.

from them, a creature descends, it's savage bird-like screech echoing. with cold fury, he's upon you.

the conversation between god and human are beyond the reaches of everyone else involved. even if the lord of lightning could hear it — it was the squabbling of lesser creatures. words meant little when you trespassed where you didn't belong.

with a great shrill of irritation, zapdos begins to give chase. the AGILITY had given lars a momentary speed boost, but zapdos was a god. the legendary exerted it's will into creation and a RAIN DANCE began to spew forth from the heavens. from above, the thunder clouds brewed in a clear sign of its wrath.

a THUNDEROUS BOLT of lightning descends from the heavens, guided through the vein work-like RAIN DANCE and onto the challenger's swampert. its ground-type negates the attack, summoning a furious squawk from the legendary bird. it had held back from it's full fury, of course, no need to send a nuclear missile to deal with a fly.

it was beginning to regret that decision.

then the ROCK SLIDE appears and slams against the herald. caws of pain and anger pulse out, each as loud and powerful as the thunder from moments before. but it's not enough to sway the legendary. not yet.

with a surge of power and speed, it races towards the fleeing the trainer, straining beneath the effort. its beak opens ready to PLUCK the unfortunate trainer, or his pokemon, from their not-so comfortable perch.

a burst of AGILITY from the legendary keeps it right on their trail, marking it just close enough to strike. the ROCK SLIDE collapses on the creatures backside, but it only angers the titan even more. its massive beak PLUCKS the defending swampert from the back of the floating metagross and, in one fell swoop, drops it to its doom below.

it spreads its forked wings out, catching the wind, and caws in indignation. then, with one last piercing look, flies off in the opposite direction, properly annoyed.

in the distance two more flares ignite. one GREEN. one PURPLE.

...but at what cost?

In the final throws of battle it rips your swampert from her saddle and drops it to the burning cityscape below.

Its disappearance will mark a hole in your team of six, leaving you only FIVE pokemon to work with for the remainder of the challenge.

Fear not however, for your pokemon was safely teleported out before any harm could be done, and is enjoying a meal tailored specifically to her outside the boundaries of the challenge.

it takes some time before laurence reaches the area where the green flare had erupted. as he does near, the air begins to noticeably fill with static. the hairs on the challengers head, arms, and more begin to stand on end, and instinctively the avatar feels the threat that flying here brings.

down below, a small group gathers. regular citizens are corralled back by emergency services, and should lars land (which i recommend he does, if he wants to not be fried to a crisp), a figure waves him down.

"you! there's no civi-" the figure stops, eyes widening slightly. his face was young, relatively handsome, but covered in soot, sweat, and grime. it's a familiar one. "you're the one from the house fire." he says, like a question wrapped in an observation all at once.

"we could really use your help—"

as if summoned by his words a bolt of lightning falls from the sky, illuminating it in brilliant gold light. it lands somewhere beyond the tree line to a deafening boom. the cries of ZAPDOS follow, shrieking and shrilling in pain, ecstasy, or maybe both.

a familiar face greets you - the same public servant who you met just outside the building fire. despite the clear tension, and exhaustion in his eyes, he seems relieved.

"got the report that it landed a few minutes ago at one of the power plants and just... kinda started goin' crazy. like throwin' a tantrum or somethin'." it's clear that the lack of a real understanding grates on the first responder's nerves, but he drops a modicum of tension to smile.

"someone said that Zapdos was battlin' someone in the sky and when it flew off was just irate. so maybe that's why?" a rhetorical question, and he quickly moves onto the main point. "couple of us were thinkin' of approachin' and seein' what we can do. care to join us?"
