tending the garden at willow atkins's farm had come easy to greyson. the atmosphere was warm, and welcoming. but more importantly, it gave him a space to just exist and lose himself in his work.

part of that work he was doing now, clipping dead leaves and vines using an old pair of shears and thick gloves. his attention shifts downwards rather alarmedly as something cold brushes against his leg.

it was a rather odd looking pokemon; one he recognizes but can't place a name to.

"hello," he says softly, crouching down to the ice block pokemon's level. "kind-of odd seeing you all the way out here. curious, are you?" he takes one of the berries off the stalk and, using his shears, cuts a piece off just small enough for it to... somehow consume it.

he sighs softly.

"let's cool you off inside and see if anyone's looking for you."

and that's how he got a weird ice penguin.. thing.

the eevee's presence goes unnoticed — at first. pruning took a considerable amount of time, so much so, that greyson needed to dedicate an entire day to it. when the normal-type paws up to him, curiously sniffing one of the tomato he'd been growing, he can't help but reveal a small smile.

"hello there," he says in a low voice, trying not to startle the creature. so engrossed in the idea of a tasty morsel, it hadn't even noticed the human being crouched right next to it. eevee's eyes widen, and it takes a tentative step back, as if to flee.

"hey, hey!" he adds quickly, falling onto his rear and pulling himself further away from it, "it's okay. see?" he places the pruners down, hands up. it seems to work, at least for the moment.

"go ahead," greyson urges, holding a hand out placatingly towards the near full grown tomato.
[break][break]
tentatively, it approaches, and surged on with hunger, takes a clean bite out of the fruit. it looks to greyson, tomato juice spilling out over its mouth and soaking its fur. this causes a wider smile.

"i have some more, if you want?"

it did, indeed, want.

a stranger enters the garden, nose prickling, eyes curious, and a deep hunger in its belly. the zorua approaches a nearby shrub and opens its maw, the sweet berry mere inches from its mouth...

another creature enters.

this figure was much larger and cut a striking visage. its fur was a faded black, mane a lush crimson, with nails that glittered sharply beneath the sunlight.

instantly the wild-pokemon puts up an illusion, hiding behind the masterfully crafted 'potted plant'. and instantly it is seen through, the stalking zoroark moving closer, eyes thin, lip curled into a snarl.

a wadded up magazine smacks her lightly atop the head.
[break]
[break]

"cut it out, scarlett." greyson says scolding, moving her out of the way. crouching down to nearly the wild-pokemon's level, he gives it a small smile. greyson puts his best foot forward, not wishing to be intimidating. it's clear the zorua is scared.

"hey little one. no need to be afraid. we're a friendly bunch here." he offers the mangy fox a berry he'd plucked on the way here and watches her eat it.

"there you go. more where that came from. i'll just sit here until you're comfortable, alright?"

[break]

and sit greyson did. hours would pass before the zorua would dare come closer, and hours more until he was finally able to take her home.
