She would be protected, walking through the valley of the shadow of death. Faith would act as the candlelight at her feet, illuminating the roadway to what could potentially be her true calling manifested. She stood at the precipice of worth and enjoyment in such. A career, one may say. Something she could wake up to every day, and enjoy every second of doing. All that stood between her and the visions of grandeur, was a meeting with a man. Possibly a few other steps after the meeting, but the meeting came first nonetheless.

The rendezvous point had been delivered, and with haste, Mayday made her way to the location. Privy of the time, as to not keep the aforementioned man waiting too long, there was no dawdling in her journey to Slateport. However, there was a gaggle of drunkards and imbeciles that threatened to act as hurdles to the diner. Easily thwarted, one after another she made swift work of the stumbling buffoons and ne'er-do-wells and entered the diner. Immediately, her bright hues surveyed the interior until she locked onto a stoic man sitting at a table by his lonesome. It had to be him.

Walking over, she pierces the veil and invades his bubble, "Theo Beckett?" Her voice is low, but loud enough for the man she addresses to hear.

she invades his bubble, and he doesn't seem to give much of a reaction. he looks to meet her gaze, then gestures over to the seat across him.

"mayday markov."

after a quick glance, he raises his cup of coffee to his lips.

"thirsty? the coffee here is terrible, but their tea is quite nice."

His baritone dispels the fog of uncertainty. This was the man of the hour, the gateway to the lifestyle she had been glamourizing since her arrival. With a nod, she moves to take the open seat and scoots the chair closer to the table, taking note of the raised mug and chuckling softly in response. "I could go for a drink." Though, if the coffee was poor in taste, why was he drinking it? Huh, strange man this Theo Beckett.

She liked him already. "Any recommendations for a specific blend of tea? Or should I just ask for a glass of hot water and make it myself?" No stranger to crafting from scratch, it wouldn't bother her either way. A warm drink would do her well. The weather had plummeted and the brisk breeze and gale of winter had whipped through her trestles while she traveled here. Warming up in any capacity sounded like a great idea.

he shrugs, allowing the conversation to move along to what they're both here for.

A palm rises, covering her mouth as she giggles amusingly at the male's demonstration. In truth, she hadn't thought someone of his stature in the organization to be such a personable figure. His persona was quite the stark contrast from the image she had built him up to be against her mental canvas. Perhaps that was the allure of Rocket as a whole? The cover of the novel was not to be judged before the pages were read. Even more of a reason to feel at home amongst them.

"I see," no sooner had Mayday thought to order a cup of tea, had Theo decided to shift the tide of conversation to the more pressing of matters. Why did she want in? "A loaded question," she begins, "I'm not sure I can answer in so few words, but I'll try." Her eyes slowly close, a whimsical hum leaves her lips as she ponders momentarily. "Chaos theory." Her eyes spring open, and her lips curl into a smile of warmth. "Without rain, there are no flowers. No eggs? No cake. There are forces in this world that must go against the grain to maintain order. Those forces are detrimental to growth, success, evolution." She takes a moment to flag down a waiter. "One cup of tea, please."

After he leaves, her hues immediately snap back to the man across from her. Lipping the word, 'Rocket' in silence, she finishes aloud, "is that force."

"Contribute and strengthen." Her response mimics his inquiries. Short, curt, to the point of the matter. There were no punches pulled in the conversation between the pair. She knew what she was here to do, and he knew what the organization required in their members. The need to put on any form of air was fruitless here, manipulation just as inconsequential. Her earnest desire to see a world she had envisioned was all that she needed. Her will would see her through. And if not? Then, oh well.

The waiter returns, leaving a glass of steaming hot water and two tea bags on a saucer. Thanking him, Mayday unravels a bag and slowly dunks it into the water. "I plan to create specific poisons," slowly, the clear water shifts in color. A dark brow radiating from the epicenter, seating free the tea bag, "specifically, an avatar slayer." Changing what once lived in the glass. "I've gained knowledge in medicines and herbs. Using them both, I'll mass produce poisons and drugs to assist the organization."

Her fingers pinch the string, raising and dunking the tea bag as it steeps in the water.

There countless people on the planet that could do what she did. Those with more scholarly approaches, field experience, you name it. Life in and of itself was a competition. To with which, Mayday would never allow herself to be second best. So yes, perhaps there were a multitude of other Rocket members that were experienced toxologists, but they, were no Mayday MArkov. And that, was what made her the MQC.

The corners of her glossed lips curl into a smile of wicked origin. The gleam in her eye shines bright with the subtlety of evil. Darkness rolls in, shrouding her hues. A storm rolls in, "I'm capable of all things." A sugar packet is ripped, its contents falling into the brewed tea within her glass. "And what I can't do, I still am capable of." Another packet is ripped and repeats the process of being poured into her mixture. "There are no limits, in the pursuit of entropy, Mr. Beckett."

A spoon laid against the saucer is plucked, dipped into the tea, and swirled about before being placed aside. "I am but a catalyst." She sips the tea, humming in pleasure at its taste.

his expression softens a bit by the end of her response. she seems to be aware of rocket, of what they are, what they do, and what she'll be asked to do. and though her skillset doesn't particularly stand out, her attitude does, and it's what he chooses to focus on.

Hues of jade lower with intrigue as her lips curl into a grin against the rim of the glass she holds. Watching as Beckett's visage shifts to a softer variant after she speaks. Perhaps it's a fluke, or maybe he's sincerely intrigued by her. Whichever the truth of the matter may have been, Mayday decides to accept it as a good sign. She hadn't had to embellish since their conversation began, so he was receiving information from her most authentic self. The best way to be in an interview if you were suited for the position.

Had she killed? She would have been a fool to not see that coming. To think she wouldn't get her hands dirty in Rocket's line of work was absurd. Even in her endeavors, she had seen her share of gruesome scenes. Bleak scenarios that she had crafted and orchestrated from start to finish. Though, in truth, she hadn't the pleasure of watching the life force completely leave a target. Except for one.

She lowers the glass cup and grins, locking eyes with the male across from her. "Of course."

That was to be expected. "Are you familiar with the game center?" A sip of her tea is taken before she continues, "the Johto branch. It was the location of my first poison test. Admittedly, I was young and hadn't perfected the mix. But it was as simple as tossing the bomb through the window and watching from afar." The long and short of it. Her digits coil about the teacup, bringing it to her lips and sipping once more.

"I watched onward as the mass of gamblers struggled to make for the exit. Some did, some didn't." Her shoulders shrugged. "It was a great show, such a shame I haven't had the chance to see any footage for myself of what happened inside." In truth, though, it wasn't any of them that died that day. But in fact, it was the slaughtering of her old self. Making way for the new and improved, Mayday Markov.
