"here, here!" he emerges from a nearby restroom, using his foot to hold the door. greyson dries his hands with a papertowel, quickly, before tossing it in a bin. he rounds towards the desk, giving the receptionist a charming smile as he takes the clipboard.

"another elite four member? i'm honored," unfolding a pair of glasses, he reads the information on it. "hm, traditional challenge. good, good. everything seems to be in order, mr. wynter." he takes off the spectacles, holding them by one of its arms. "now which of your partners is going to be the VIP?" he releases a comfey, toni, that hovers around his hand. "ah, feel free to ask any questions now, too. won't get a second chance."

"sword and shield, hm?" he chuckles, amused. was kazimir also a fan of the hero duo? "an excellent choice all around," he says, holding his wrist up in front of him, almost like he was preparing to transform in a power ranger, "this is toni. she'll be responsible for the shield counters, and overall safety of your VIP." unwrapping from around his wrist, she hovers down towards the joltik. mewing softly, she smiles in greeting, moving to wrapa round it's mid section. a flower... bracelet... belt?

"you'll notice a golden light, once inside. that will be your final destination." he smiles, beckoning his arm towards the door. it opens, as if waiting for his motion.

"good luck."

what meets the elite-four member and his team, upon entering the door, is a stark contrast to the world outside. a heavy dusk hangs above a thickly forested region, with trees covered by the abundant snowfall around them. it's cold, surprisingly, forcing the ill-prepared to shiver against it.

as the group makes their way a few steps in, the first signs of life emerge from a darkness. a glistening arrow, hued in blacks and dark purples, FIRES DIRECTLY at kazimir's VIP.

from the snowy field, a specter rises, one hand cupping her mouth in mocking amusement. eyes flash and the elite four member would find that his ability to DETECT attacks was now DISABLED.

after all, it'd be too easy for such an esteemed member if they could constantly see the attacks coming. in a flash, she's racing deeper into the woods, here snickering echoing behind her.

that left only the lancing VINE WHIP they were using as a means to block incoming projectiles. it was a good idea, if not a bit crude. patience was key in a situation like this, a NASTY PLOT forming in the twinkling eye of the unseen sniper.

meanwhile, another predator stalks the woods. biding its time. waiting. wanting.

froslass swims through the snow with careless effort as she circles her prey. she'd taken the opportunity to fall back, and when properly hidden, used her secondary typing to quickly flow back into range.

now, properly behind the continuously advancing challenger and his pokemon, she takes the chance to rise like an icey-phoenix and release a stream of ICEY WIND at the chestnaught's wall of VINE WHIPS.

elsewhere, hidden still on his branch in the high-trees, the unseen sniper uses the distraction to release yet ANOTHER ARROW at the VIP. guerilla tactics would prove to be vital during this initial probing engagement.

then, the real fighting will begin.

the real key to this challenge was to not get bogged down. the longer kazimir and his pokemon were in the 'open', the more chances greyson had at striking at the VIP.

that was easier said than done, however. should the challenger move recklessly, he'd be more susceptible to surprise attacks. but, in the same notion, if he took his time, then greyson could bog him down to the point of a standstill.

none of that actually accounted for the hidden third pokemon, either.

but the fight was the priority now. his arrow is COUNTERED, but he'd expected that. the decidueye falls back into the shade of tree, and using its portal like aspect, appears behind the VIP in a SHADOW SNEAK that saw him immediately striking at the first shield. he would need another distraction, though, to ensure the safety of his strike.

an ICY WIND pelts the group again in a wide flurry, intending less to damage but distract.

hoots of irritation, and pain, accompany the snipers attack. feathers meet spikes and, despite their best attempts, come off none the better for it.

in the confusion, it slips away, delving back into the shadows from whence it came.

then, hell breaks loose.

a massive ground rumbling EARTHQUAKE shakes the very foundation beneath their feet, powerful vibrations forcing even the most sturdy of creatures to reach out and catch themselves.

in front of the challenger and his team snow begins to sink, and disappear, and soon it becomes apparent why — the earth splits in a jagged line down the center, opening like the maws of a hungry beast to consume kazimir and his team. deep below darkness waits, beckoning them forth as if the pits of Tartarus itself was opening.

their plummet was inevitable, but, just how much would it hurt?
