Discoveries to be made in Shoal Cave? Count her in!

Scientific curiosity would always be one of the things to push Ceri forward in life, and yet out here, in this cave of ice, what drove her was mostly a strange sense of nostalgia. For, see, born and raised in Circhester as she had been, much of her childhood was once spent looking for secrets and discovering mysteries in the snow, and it’s own way, that’s exactly what this little journey to Shoal Cave reminded her of.

She may have spent a little too long in the tropical comfort of Hoenn, though, because it was as if she had completely forgotten the fact that ice is way more slippery than snow.

”Okay, Pyr, you know how this goes! Keep an eye out for anything wei–”

And down to the ground she went, even sliding a few metres over the ice. Was this karmic justice for when she made fun of Elliott Jenkins when ice skating that one time?

Not exactly the greatest start to her Shoal Cave adventures, but what else is to be expected when she spends most of her time in classrooms or the lab? She isn’t even dressed particularly well for this sort of situation, for while she may be wearing snow boots, they also come paired with leggings and a bright yellow parka over an oversized sweater.

At least she had been wise enough to tie up her hair into one long ponytail, something that proves helpful when she falls, or her locks would surely be a mess.

Yes, that’s one of her main concerns.

Another concern is the potential of someone seeing her making such an stupid mistake, but apparently she doesn’t get lucky when it comes to that part…

”Oh… Hey.” Chocolate eyes look up to meet those of a boy who is way too cute for his own good, and gently, she takes his hand to help herself up – her fingers all too cold because her mittens remain in a pocket of her parka.

”Thanks for the help, I guess I forgot how slippery it can get.” She laughs lightly then, her words coated in a Galarian accent as if honey-glazed.

The sweetness of her accent, like fresh picked honeydew, makes Toshiaki homesick all of a sudden. Yet it's a comfort all the same to hear such a familiar dialect. His was all over the place, but that hadn't mattered in the moment. Once propped up, Toshiaki offers a friendly grin toward the stranger.[break][break]
"Say your accent... You from Galar by any chance? I was born in Johto, but I've lived in Galar practically all my life!"[break][break]
Cinderace hops eagerly in place, reminding Toshiaki of their goal. Oh, Right![break][break]

It could be called silly to find comfort in meeting someone hailing from the same region as her, for Galar is huge and it’s unlikely they would have ever met back there. Yet, it will always be nice to find someone she has something in common with in a place like Hoenn, and the smile that illuminates her expression when hearing Toshiaki’s comment on her accent is all too honest.

”Good ear! I am! Circhester born and raised.” Which is ironic, considering she just slipped in an ice cave, but she lets that matter slide, instead turning her attention to brushing off whatever signs of frost may remain on her clothes after her fall.

”That’d be great, actually. Are you looking for anything or just exploring Shoal Cave?”

Her Salazzle approaches then, standing tall next to Ceri and watching the pair of strangers.

“Nice! I was born in Johto, but I’ve lived in Galar pretty much half my life!” Moving between the two was a massive cultural shock at first, but luckily Toshiaki is known for his adaptability. He gives a whole new meaning to the saying: “go with the flow!”[break][break]
“Nah. Not really lookin’ for anything specific. I just like the thrill of a fun adventure, y’know?” He stuffs his hands in his pockets and grins wide.[break][break]
“Well, Ceri and Pyr, consider me and Cinderace here, your fellow cave explorers! And the adventurer’s party grows!!” He announces triumphantly with a tradtional fanfare tune to his voice, treating this as if it were a real RPG they were playing together.[break][break]
“Alright! I’m sure if we keep both our eyes peeled we’re bound to find somethin’ exciting!”[break][break]

At least that’s what Ceri thinks when hearing Toshiaki Macallan speak of the thrill of a fun adventure and joke about their party growing, the latter even earning him a light giggle on her part.

”Adventurer’s party, huh? What’s your class, then? Fighter? Maybe a brave paladin?” Light jest comes with a wink, although the truth is that Ceri isn’t that knowledgeable about those things. She’d play more games but she simply doesn’t have the time, and when she does, her preference tends to be rhythm ones.

Still, what would her own class be?

Wizard seems like the obvious choice.

”Okay, let’s go! I’m actually here to collect some samples, so I have a marked map and all. Heard there’s some pretty cool things in the deeper chambers of the cave.”

Toshiaki didn't seem like the nerdy type whatsoever. His overall image gave the impression of a rebellious delinquent. Dyed white hair, pierced ears, a scary face, though one could hardly tell with how much he smiles. Like sunshine incarnate.[break][break]
“Oh, Paladin for sure! Cause you can be the sword and the shield! Offense and defense! Although, monk’s pretty damn cool too.”

As she walks on ahead Toshi follows her, taking a cautious approach to his surroundings. Luckily, if she were to run into any problems first his reflexes would kick in, getting them both out of an untimely bind for sure.[break][break]

”Good choice! I always thought Warlocks sounded pretty cool, but I think it’d be Wizard for me.” She smirks, because Ceri has never been one to be ashamed of how much of a nerd she is. She wears it all like a badge of pride, actually.

Then again, Artificer probably suits her much better, but she isn’t an expert when it comes to those things.

”Yeah, pretty much! Geology isn’t really my field, but some of the rocks you can find out here do some pretty cool stuff and figuring out how they form is super interesting.”

He knew somewhat about Geology, though Pokemon Fossils were where his interests had truly lied. Owning one of those bad boys would be like a dream come true.[break][break]
As they walk further in the cave walls begin to sparkle. In that moment it’s as if he’s caught in a trance, staring at the glistening cavern before him. [break][break]
How pretty..[break][break]
‘Guess you must be my lucky charm, Toshiaki!’[break][break]
His whole face goes red as he laughs, clearly shy, but delighted all the same to hear such a kind sentiment.[break][break]
“Aw, shucks, it was nothin’! You’re the expert here, it was only a matter of time before we struck gold.”[break][break]
Speaking of striking gold, he feels his foot stop against something and investigates it. Bending over, Toshiaki holds a peculiar stone in his hand, examining it closely.[break][break]
“...A Shiny stone?”[break][break]

There’s a short laugh when watching him blush, but Ceri doesn’t bother with correcting him. In a way, they both are right: she had known where she was going in order to find what she wanted to find, but she could have gotten lost or attacked by wild pokémon or even slipped just like before, so he really was her lucky charm!

As soon as the walls begin to shine, she brings out her equipment in order to collect a few samples, her attention being fixed on this by the time she hears Toshiaki.

A Shiny Stone.

”Oh! Good find!” Apparently, he really is a lucky one. ”You can keep it, if you want. I hear certain pokémon evolve when exposed to those.”
[break][break]
Already having a Roserade of her own and with the rest of her team being mostly Poison types, Ceri herself has no use for such a thing, but maybe Toshiaki does instead. And, why not be nice? Those kinds of stones can get really expensive!

”I should be done with my samples soon. Wanna go grab a bite when we’re out here?”
[break][break]
He seems like a cool guy, after all, and Ceri loves meeting new people.
