Toshiaki nods his head and tries his best to follow Lilith’s instructions. Small steps. Both feet on the ground. One good thing about him is that he’s very adaptive, referred to as a rather fast learner. Within minutes he’s standing all on his own and even moving![break][break]
He grins wide, continuing to slide forward. He looks back at Lilith every now and then for any sign of approval or discontent. “Woah! Look, Lils! I’m doing it!”[break][break]

Toshiaki, curious as ever, eyes her to try and mimic the pose that she’s doing. Bend down slightly, turn toes inward and- somehow, his legs up a little too far apart and he slips, face down into the ice below.[break][break]

“Don’t freak out, Lils! I’m okay!”[break][break]
He manages to catch himself somewhat, but he still smushed the side of his cheek while going down. Despite the pain in his face, Toshiaki ’s quick to stumble back up, steadying his balance and already giving it a second attempt.[break][break]

thread summary: a rematch ensues between Josh Devlin and Toshiaki Macallan, but the rookie trainer doesn't expect yet another loss.[break]

why is it important?: Toshiaki experiences a loss that further fuels his motivation into becoming a better Pokemon trainer. He wants to be recognized by the league and eventually join their ranks (become a gym leader himself.) losing twice to a gym leader stung real bad, but it only encourages him to do better.
