As if another item to check off in a busy schedule, there’s one of the monthly visits to the Safari Zone.

What’s up with the curated selection this time, though?

It sure looks that way, since while usually there’s some sense to the selection (seasonal pokémon, a specific type, blahblahblah), this time there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, no matter how Mars looks at the list.

Ringing bells are pretty common this time of the year, no?

In the city, at least, but not in a place like the Safari Zone. For a second there, Mars thinks he’s imagining things, but it’s soon enough that he sees it: a Chingling stuck on a high branch.

Shouldn’t it be able to get out by itself, being a Psychic type pokémon and all?
[break][break]
What a useless little thing.
[break][break]
Having no use for a pokémon that can’t even look after itself, Mars keeps on walking until the sound of the bell’s desperate ringing can no longer be heard.

Not long after the ringing of bells fades, Mars finds himself walking near a stream. In it, an Oshawott peacefully floats on its back, the pokémon seeming so relaxed that it even waves at him when seeing him.

Is it mocking him or just being friendly?

Judging by the HYDRO PUMP it soon sends his way and the way it laughs once Mars is soaking wet… probably the latter.

”Oh. You little brat.”
[break][break]
That’s a cold waiting to happen.
[break][break]
Clicking his tongue, Mars calls his Alolan Raichu out of a Luxury Ball, RISING VOLTAGE soon putting an end to the Oshawott’s games when hitting it from beneath.

Now… If only he could summon himself a towel.

As fond as Mars may be of his Raichu, it’s not exactly the best pokémon to help him dry up after ending up soaked thanks to that one mischievous Oshawott. Quite the contrary, in fact, and getting electrocuted is not something he’d like, thank you very much!

So, the Raichu is swapped with one of his Delphox, and using it’s Psychic power, the pokémon creates a ball of fire that keeps its trainer warm while also drying his clothes. Looks like they’ll be taking a break for now.

It’s then when the presence of another Fire type apparently catches the attention of a curious Cyndaquill, but thankfully this one seems much less playful than the previous pokémon they ran into.
[break][break]
It stays close to the Delphox, watching the flames as if mesmerised.
[break][break]
Does it hope to one day be able to do things like those?
[break][break]
Does his Delphox have a new protegee?
[break][break]
Apparently so, judging by the way it reaches down for the Cyndaquill.

How did Mars go from having a clean bill of health to worrying about something as simple as catching a cold? Let’s just blame the brain bubbles and, as a result, his desire to avoid any potential situation that could bring unnecessary stress.

Work is something he can deal with. Not being able to work because of being sick, however? That’s a different story altogether.

At least his clothes dry soon enough, and with a Safari Ball having been used on his Delphox’s new friend, there’s only two left.
[break][break]
One of which is soon to be used on a Rowlet that flies overhead.
[break][break]
Why?
[break][break]
Well, Mars doesn’t usually care much for birds, but the colours of a shiny Rowlet are aesthetic, and seafoam green happens to be one of his favourites.

”Fire Blast it to bring it down.”

And so, that's exactly what his Delphox does.

Arcanine may be one of Azul’s most favourite pokémon, but we must stay true to character here, and Mars… Mars doesn’t like most dogs.

Having his few Delphox and Braixen is bad enough, but a Growlithe that keeps jumping around and playing in the mud? No thanks. Even if yellow and not the usual orange.

It’d be a lie to say he cares for them, since reality is much closer to the opposite: there are only a few bug pokémon that are of any interest to Mars.

Orbeetle were once among them, but with everything that happened back in September, he’d much rather not deal with any of them for a while.

Scatterbug, though? What in the world would Mars do with a Scatterbug?

Not much, really, and yet when a white one crosses his path, he simply nods at his Delphox to bring it down.
