Yoshiro halts suddenly at the movement in the nearby rocks, a soft chiming sound preceding the arrival of a CHINGLINGfrom the surrounding area. She watches it for a few minutes, playfully bouncing around Torao's paws with a wild abandon as he blows a gentle huff of smoke in response.

"Thank you, little friend," she intones with a vague amusement, leaning over the Arcanine's side to leave a small section of her travel meal on a nearby stone for the creature, and urges Torao onward in search of more.

A soft, alerting huff from her Arcanine alerts Yoshiro to the clan of Oshawott playing near the reeds upriver, and it takes her the better part of an hour to determine an advantageous angle from which to strike, waiting patiently for them to venture further and further from the shoreline. Quietly slipping in a circle around them, using the rocky banks as cover, she utters a shrill whistle as she climbs up onto the shore once more, sending the majority of the creatures scattering wildly in every direction: save for the one effectively cornered between herself and Torao.

Snapping open a Pokéball with a deft flick of the wrist, Yoshiro crouches down even with the little beast, and points toward the open contraption to instruct simply, "Get in the ball."

The Oshawott secure in its new home and fastened on her belt, Yoshiro grasps Torao's mane and swings back up onto his back, the pair spending the better part of the next hour watching the wildlife in the distance come and go, nothing quite near enough for an attempt at capture, or - in other instances - nothing quite suitable to add to her training roster. Patience is a Shioda virtue, she thinks, as she sees the spark and cinder of a small Cyndaquil searching for food in a bed of shale.

It makes a break for the cover of a cluster of rocks almost immediately, and with a low whistle, the pair dive after it, her Arcanine driving it back from the shelter of the stone and running it further, further, further, until it begins to wear out.

"You fought well. There is no shame in an honorable loss, and you will be well-cared for," Yoshiro confides to the Cyndaquil as she slides from Torao's back and unclips another ball from her belt, waiting to determine which way the creature will bolt before throwing it just ahead.

Appearing pleased with the outcome of the ordeal, Yoshiro ruffles Torao's ears fondly, cracking a grin when he leans into it. While she looks up at the sudden flock of Rowlet overhead, she shakes her head slowly, intent on being on her way instead. There are still a few more places that she intends to search before the day comes to a close, after all.

At the sound of howling in the distance, both Yoshiro and Torao look up of a sudden, then at each other. Not hesitating any further, they move together toward a nearby clearing, where the grasslands reach the foot of the mountains - a walk which takes the better part of an hour. Here, beneath an overhang of stone, a lone Growlithe howls mournfully, its calls unanswered.

Taking up post nearby, the two watch and wait, first for a few hours - then the better part of a day, and then into the next. When nothing has returned for the pup, Yoshiro snaps her fingers lightly, allowing Torao to lope over through the meadow grass and approach. Waiting until they are both distracted, the Growlithe pouncing excitedly at his paws and Torao bowing down to play in like kind, Yoshiro unclips a Pokeball from her belt and unlatches it, throwing it between them.

It's going home with them. It is well past time Shioda housed another of the Arcanine line.
