PERSONALITY
Overview
Elisabeth would describe herself as a botanist, though others would likely choose other descriptors. Civilians in Hoenn see her as a gardener, florist and perfumist who runs the local flower shop in the Petalburg Woods. Those within the Rocket organization view Elisabeth as a toxicologist, poisonist, and agent of bioterrorism. And those who remember her time in Kalos view her as a tragic tale of a caged bird finally given the chance to roam free.
She holds a particular fondness for Grass, Poison, and Bug-type Pokemon, and many find themselves living outside her modest cottage in Petalburg Woods. Few locals realize the vast wealth that Elisabeth possesses as a widow and as the sole inheritor of her family's estate, but it allows her to quietly fund projects for Rocket and to cultivate the existence she desires for herself on Hoenn.
She is a polite, if distant, mild-mannered merchant known in Hoenn for the alluring beauty of her flowers. Despite her rank as a Rocket underboss, she can often be underestimated due to her deferent posture and feminine appearance; however, she merely holds no interest in fame or prestige, finding both impractical obstacles for those in pursuit of real power and influence. Like poison, she works slowly, methodically, and fatally.
Inspirations
Elisabeth is a character written in the storied tradition of the tragic heroines of gothic literature, as well as that of the ill-fated women in fairy tales punished for their curiosity. The stories of Bluebeard and the Robber Bridegroom as well as Beauty and the Beast are woven into her DNA, along with the mythical downfalls of Pandora and Eve.
Her late husband, Édouard Bortiforte, takes his character from, naturally, Bluebeard and the Robber Bridegroom, but also the Byronic men of Jane Eyre, The Woman in White, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Portrait of Dorian Grey, Rebecca, Wuthering Heights, etc.
However, Elisabeth's story picks up when those tales generally end -- the monster is dead, and she is 'free.' Except becoming a monster to survive is the start of its own story.
Motivations
- CURIOSITY: An insatiable curiosity leads Elisabeth to seek out forbidden knowledge she shouldn't, or to explore things that would be better left alone. Similarly, it attracts her to people who seem complicated, as she enjoys puzzling them out.
- POWER & CONTROL: After a decade living under her abusive husband's thumb, Elisabeth is possessed by a constant sense that she is not in control of her own life. This is the source of her insatiable ambition, and can result in some sadistic tendencies.
- FREEDOM: Closely tied to her need for control, Elisabeth craves the freedom and flexibility to live life on her own terms. While Rocket is its own cage, it is the one she has chosen for herself, believing the shadows allow her to act as she pleases with less hindrance. As time goes on, however, she resents Rocket too for its inevitably binding strings.
- GRUDGES: Elisabeth silently resents people who have lived innocent lives without unhappiness and strife, because her own innocence did nothing to protect her from her own suffering. She holds many regrets about her life, and they can fuel some of her crueler words and actions. She also tends to project her trauma with her late husband on the men in her life in various ways.

Her flower shop is, in fact, an excellent one. Those seeking floral decor for their weddings, funerals, and other events would do well to contact her in Petalburg City. They may also find interest in her boutique of specialty perfumes and floral blends of tea, the latter of which they can enjoy within her shop.
Model Petalburg Civilian:
Elisabeth is often seen at community events in Petalburg, performing duties as a model civilian. Easy to bump into her here!
Into the Woods:
Taking a stroll through the Petalburg Woods? Elisabeth takes daily walks there with her Pokémon.
Cultured Pursuits:
Elisabeth enjoys fine art, music, poetry, and other things of a similar nature. You can bump into her at a museum, library, opera, concert, etc.

Elisabeth has an addictive personality. She enjoys high-stakes gambling and betting, but she is a monstrously sore loser. She also partakes in drinking and smoking, though she is a lightweight and she secretly hates the taste of cigarette smoke and tar.
Moments of Novelty:
A decade of isolation has led to Elisabeth being keen to do 'new' activities that she had been denied during her marriage. This makes her enthusiastic about seemingly mundane things, like attending festivities, going to events, seeing the ocean, etc. In essence, anything that makes her feel like a 'normal' person who belongs. I love these storylines a lot, so hmu if you have any ideas here!
ROCKET PLOTS
Underboss:
Her role as an underboss in Rocket makes her an essential part of Rocket's internal operations, overseeing the organization and ensuring that it is working smoothly. Are you being a good cog in the machine?
Poisons:
As a skilled poisoner for Team Rocket, she is familiar with having certain individuals come to her flower shop requesting specific 'floral arrangements' that she keeps at the ready in her basement. These are often used as part of bioterrorism efforts.
Intelligence & Espionage:
As the former Rocket admin of intelligence, Elisabeth is privy to a lot of higher-level knowledge in Rocket's operations, and would be involved in orchestrating intrigue efforts in the organisation.
Smuggling:
Elisabeth detests smuggling, but her expertise with Grass, Poison, and Bug-type Pokémon often lends itself to working on those operations.
KALOS PLOTS
OOC NOTE: Warning, I am very particular about Kalosian plot hooks! I am unlikely to allow for significant ties to Elisabeth's backstory without extensive OOC communication first, given how intricately I have been designing it like the nerd I am. I've designed her to have come to Hoenn with no built-in connections whatsoever, so she wouldn't have friends and family waiting here for her.
Once Upon a Time:
Born a Kalosian noble, she holds many early memories of bonds with other affluent families. Most such friendships and relationships withered during the dark years of her much-speculated-upon marriage to Édouard Bortiforte; the present is a perfect time to reconnect with old friends, enemies, and rivals.
Family Connections:
Her father was a minor noble of a barony outside of Camphrier Town who tended to his generations-long winery, while her mother was a watercolour painter fairly well-recognized for her work in Southern Kalos. However, she would have fallen out of contact with most of these people during her marriage.
Wolves and Swine:
Her late husband, Lord Bortiforte, was known for his company Bortiforte Industries: a security and asset management company that was advancing to military-grade Pokémon containment and tracking operations. His family emblem was an Emboar, leading to Elisabeth's hatred and fear of the Pokemon. It is possible those with large corporations would have done business with him, or for nobility to have been passingly familiar with his house and its reputation.
Sold, to the Highest Bidder:
Elisabeth broke apart her husband's large corporation and sold its technology and research piecemeal to many businesses. Is yours one of them?

The Fateful Ties that Bind Us
FRIENDSHIPS
A potent combination of loneliness and curiosity makes Elisabeth someone who seeks out friendship readily, although she rarely believes that others value her friendship as much as she values theirs. She is a thoughtful and empathetic person genuinely interested in getting to know others.
Privately, she thinks she is not worthy of friendship, but she has somehow accidentally amassed a Rocket foster child hoard. She's also a pleasant shopkeeper to her clients, both civilians seeking flowers and Rockets seeking poisons alike.

ENEMIES
Often underestimated, Elisabeth keeps most of her hatreds to herself. However, she holds a deep resentment of the media, particularly nosy journalists. She also is very critical of law enforcement and the upper class, believing they are breathtakingly hypocritical. She is also spiteful and competitive.
She does not let slights go unnoticed, carefully filing them away as matters to be dealt with in due time. She has learned how to deal with dangerous personalities with a cool, calm composure: a hard-won trait from suffering an abusive husband for so long. She utterly despises arrogance and posturing, particularly from bullies and those who let their power go to their head.

The Baggage
When Elisabeth was young, she was the picture of a fresh-faced ingenue, always seeing the good in even the darkest and most unlikely of places. This made her susceptible to falling for dangerous and abusive men, and ultimately led to her horrific marriage to Édouard Bortiforte. The abuse she experienced from her late husband remains unspeakable to her; the petals of her heart have furled shut, making it no easy feat to brave the thorns that viciously protect her true self from any would-be paramour.
Due to this, she resists her own empathetic nature and forces herself to act against it, refusing to examine the depth of her own feelings for another person and deciding to distrust every man until proven otherwise. She anticipates that every romantic encounter comes with ulterior motives, and she guards herself against potential hurt religiously.
Current Mentality
Elisabeth is a paradox in that she is simultaneously an incredibly lonely person, and a person who is terrified of being in a relationship after the horrors her own marriage entailed. Therefore, romance with Elisabeth is not straightforward. She subconsciously assesses potential romantic interests for their threat levels, making quiet calculations before she moves forward.
Privately, she has sworn to never fall in love again and to never remarry. At the same time, she craves companionship and enjoys going through the motions of a relationship, provided that it never escalates to an uncomfortable level of commitment. The less potential love interests know about her, the happier she is.
As a result, she is often willing to flirt, but not to commit to anything that feels like a 'real' relationship, as the possibility of one frightens her. Sometimes this leads to her preferring romantic interests that there is no 'future' with, keeping them distant and at arms' length.
She is very flighty and will run away if she believes she is too emotionally compromised, or if distrust begins to take root.
