There was a sound of soft chimes on the wind, rousing her attention for the time being. Looking towards the east she saw something move, fly by without a care in the world. A…Chingling, if she remembered correctly. It looked interesting.

Violet found herself tempted to try one of her balls on it. But then it moved once more, making another sound. Those were pleasant enough in the wild like this. Yet, the thought of having to hear that constantly around the flat whenever she had it out sounded somewhat problematic.

She stayed her hand for now, figuring that she might come back here again towards the end. Maybe she’d meet it again – unless she found something better in general.

And now she was on Oshawatch. Yeah, that was a terrible pun. But she could not help it, seeing that Oshawat passing by. Father had always made that pun, so it simply came to mind. Which was both kind of nice, but also saddening. It was….yeah, she did not want to think about.

Not here. Not today. The Oshawott looked at her curiously, but she suddenly turned on her heel and picked a random, different direction to go in instead. It wasn’t really the Pokemon’s fault, really. But Violet very decidedly did not want to think of these matters right then. Well, more like, not ever. But for the time being? Yeah, she didn’t care for reminders.
Hence, she simply started deeper into the marsh, craving direction, seeking distraction instead.

She really should start using her balls, shouldn’t she? The watch did say that her time was half up. Last time she’d already almost run out of time before spending them all. Honestly, it was probably best to just catch what came around next and only get picky once she was down to the last ball.

Yes, that was a good idea. Violet nodded to herself, freshened herself up a little, and looked around the marsh with new eyes. With a hunter’s eyes. That meant she remained perfectly still for a little bit – ironically taking up yet another of her father’s lessons subconsciously – and waited for new movement.
And when she did notice something, she immediately turned towards the appearing Cyndaquil, threw the Warden’s Ball and hoped for the best. It was the best she could do. But it was also the worst she could do. In fact, it was all she could do for this capture, given that this time around she was not supposed to use her own Pokemon. But that was also kind of freeing. Just one act, pass or fail, that was it.

Wonderful. It had worked out. Violet quickly recovered the Pokeball with her new capture and stashed it away. The no Pokemon challenge did include those that she would capture en route, after all. But she would certainly check it out in detail later.

For now, Violet decided to move on, emboldened by her successful capture. It wasn’t long until she found something again – but this time, she almost missed it. Mostly because the Pokemon barely moved at all. It just sat there, on a branch of the tree, almost the same colour of them. Vio only noticed it at all because it very, very lightly swayed as it continued its nap.

Immediately, she went still again and moved only with the utmost care, trying not to wake it up. Maybe she could catch it even awake, but this was definitely a flier. If she woke it and startled it, it might just fly away and get out of her range way too easily. Thus, she only very lightly tossed the ball at it, with just enough force to reach the branch, and connect, but nothing more. If it woke before impact, it would probably get away or swat the ball. But if she managed to hit it while it was still asleep that should be enough.

Now this, this was truly an amazing colour for a Growlithe. She couldn’t help but want to pet it immediately when she saw it. The Rowlet she’d caught had looked a bit off, too, probably one of those odd colouration. Violet really did not know enough about most species of Pokemon to tell. But sometimes, she really could.

Then again, with Growlithe she really only could tell because they were so ubiquitous. Almost all the police officers sported those. That really should have made her dislike them, really. But they were just too cute to hate them. And this one, now standing in front of her, assessing the situation, was too cute to pass up.

Hence she broke the stalemate the two of them had been in first. Reaching for one of her last remaining balls, she swiftly threw it, very much hoping that she could get this one this time.

One last ball, one last shot. But at least she’d gotten the Growlithe in one. That was wonderful. It probably didn’t really matter what she got with the last ball, just from that. Somehow, she was somewhat unreasonably happy about this.

But then again, she had not actually interacted with the dog-like pokemon yet. There was at least a non-zero chance that they wouldn’t get along. They would see. For now, she banished that though, trying to stay positive as she looked at the watch again. It was already time to return, so she did just that. Turning around, she made her way back, deciding to pick off the very first Pokemon she came across.

Turned out that it was a bug. Briefly, she wondered if she really wanted to get the bug type that was eating a berry there. But ultimately, she decided to still throw a ball at it while its back was turned – if only because those bugs sometimes did become cute butterflies and the like. It was worth a shot. And if not, someone in Rocket would surely like a bug, so she went through with the capture anyway.
